- Опубліковано 5 тра 2022
- This Toyota 4Runner has the 3.0 3VZE engine and has no compression on two cylinders. This video covers diagnosis and tear down. What will we find? Head gasket, Bent Valves, burned valves or all the above?

Thanks for taking the time to do that. Highly appreciated.
Glad it was helpful!
Please more videos on the Toyota pickup.
more coming for sure!!
My guy! Appreciate the shoutout!! I was thinking to myself, man I wonder if he’ll have power steering when he goes to move that thing? 😂
As long as I feed it the fluid, all is good. Leaks so bad, it almost needs an IV.
Great video!! First time here Well believe I have same problem I have 3 5 an 6 no compression but sure mine has jumped time so don't know what's gonna happen yet. You definitely have some sweet rides there I love those little Datsun trucks run for ever and also 7.3 power stroke. I had steering pump squall and leak on a ranger put Lucas ps stop leak in and it stopped leak and quieted the pump. Thanks for sharing be safe have fun enjoy
Thanks Mike. These things are famous for valve issues.
Super helpful info! I would say that if you leave out the beginning where you were moving your trucks around it might help viewers see just how useful your diagnosis was! I almost exited the video because the first 5 minutes aren't helpful. Thanks for the information and good luck!
Thanks for the info! I love feedback, it really helps me shape my channel.
That Shelby is a cool car
Thanks, I have a few videos about it on my channel. Also have a lot more to come on it too.
Thanks. Great video. But when is the next video coming on the solution for the head fix?
It's happening this Spring. I have all the parts and the heads are back from the machine shop. Just gotta get into it.
I’m looking forward to it. Thx again

Any updates on this project? My 3VZE has zero compression on Cyl#1, so am very interested in what you found.
Yeah, the project has had a few complications - mainly extremely long lead times for parts and machine shop service. I have both heads off. In my case, the loss of compression was two burned vavles and eroded valve seats. I had both heads redone. I just received them back from the machine shop 2 weeks ago. Finally getting ready to reassemble.
thats some nice property im sitting on 2/3 acre and I'm always playing car valet moving one to get to another...my wife says as long as they all run she dosent care...and I get ONE parts car...haha
LOL, yeah I play musical cars a lot.
Valve seats riding into the head is common on 3VZ made in north America. I grinded down the shim on top of the bucket until the valve sealed and ran it like this for more than 20,000 miles without any issues. If you want to help stop this from happening in the future, change the headers and get rid of that cross over pipe behind the motor. Its the worst design Toyota did on any of their motors
Yeah, I Toyota did make a mistake on this design. Overall though, they have been really good on most everything else.
My 93 3.0 4 runner sais to be at 10 degrees btdc.
Thanks!
finding Toyota parts in a junk yard is like hitting the lottery
Sure is.
It is not the trash finder, it is the puddle jumper.
Trash jumper.
Voltage regulator bad on Shelby
Yeah, unfortunately the voltage regulation is handled by the Power Module unit, and controlled by the SMEC.
Hey I know where you can get one it’s a junk yard I went to all the time the 4Runner has the same motor and this guy won’t charge you a arm and a leg
Sanders?
@@ProjectTimeGarage yeah lol did my dad tell you about him
@@tennesseeoutlaw4563 yeah. I buy a lot of stuff from him. He has one of these engines there, but the heads are shot. I'm just going to take these heads to the machine shop.
@@ProjectTimeGarage oh ok
Wheres the next video?
There are a few out there. Have a look at my channel. It's fixed, running and cleaned up now.
@@ProjectTimeGarage awesome man, thanks
The timing is not right. It is supposed to be 5 degrees before 0. I had a similar problem where they set it to 0 degrees and it ran like crap. The timing is set to oil pump and crank sprocket marks which relates to 5 degrees before top dead 0 degree mark on the cover. The belt is off by one tooth.
He's talking about mechanical timing in this video, not ignition timing.
Correct.
Whoever set the timing wrong damaged the valves!
Didn't see the timing as being off. According to the timing light, it was right.
Sorry man… 10 mins in and got to turn it off… your just moving cars around…
No worries. Also fyi, there is a little slider at the bottom of the screen that lets you move around in the video. You can skip any parts you don't like.
