Well if ya wanna talk about them ret connin' Lara Croft's story, the people who did Tomb Raider Remastered ret conned the shit outta the whole story and universe.
I've been a TR fan since I was about 9-10 years old. The very first TR game was my first PS1 game. I have a vivid memory reading through the manual of that game on the drive home and reading that page about Lara's origin. So that specific origin stands out to me. Crystal Dynamics sort of changed her origin a bit in the Legend trilogy, you could argue they added to it. This small change for this release I'm assuming is to accommodate the newer games with a younger Lara. I still regard the OG Lara as the real Lara, but understand things change and most entertainment won't stay relevant forever. I've never been a fan of the newer take on Lara. She's certainly not as cool or fun as the original, for me. Now a days, not enough people seem to care about continuity. But that's the way the cookie crumbles. I still enjoy the things I prefer and leave it at that. Give things enough time and all our favorite IP's will be changed in a way we fundamentally disagree with or don't like. While nostalgia is still a big drawing point for a lot of entertainment, our nostalgia can't dictate the future of franchises and we either have to accept the future of IP's or let it go for the next generation to enjoy and build memories with. It's all part of getting older.
As far as I know, this has nothing to do with Blaze, this is a Crystal Dynamics thing. They are trying to force the old games to fit their new timeline. I hate this kind of retconning, there have up until now been 3 distinct Lara Croft/Tomb Raider universes/timelines (4 if you count the Jolie movies) and it was okay that there simply existed a few different interpretations of the character. Forcing all of these wildly different histories and chronologies into one is a bad move in my opinion, and it does defeat some of the point of rereleasing these games for a new audience.
That was my suspicion as well in regards to Crystal dynamics . It would almost make sense if the history has changed with the remasters, but these are supposed to be the exact same games as the originals on PS1. It’s such a strange move.
@@PKInTheUniverse Yeah it just doesn't work for me. Even if you change the bio details, the classic Lara and the new Survivor Lara are wildly different people.
Give them an inch, they take a mile… of course it doesn’t effect gameplay and is only a minor thing but as they showed plenty of times they won’t stop there Its pretty obvious by now that the people in charge hate classic Lara and want to replace everything with the new dogshit narrative and character they came up with instead… so yeah the „outrage“ is justified since they keep disrespecting this entire franchise for a decade now for no reason
From what I understand, it was Crystal dynamics, I think it has something to do with fitting the timeline of the rest of tomb raider games. They own it, but they aren’t the original publishers or developer of the games.
@@PKInTheUniverse lol why do they need to change it tho? and its like really strange why they feel the need too? Im not offended, not a tomb raider fan, but these this weird movement to do back in the past, erase the past, and re-write it for some narrative.
I bought the new Evercade system and of course the Tomb Raider collection will be in there but I’ll never play it lol, never been into the series. I bought the system just to have as a collectors item 🤷🏼♂️
I'm a huge Tomb Raider fan and used to own all three Big Box PC releases, have them on PS3 via backwards compatability and looking forward to the Evercade release. Do I care that Blaze have tinkered with Lara's bio ... no, would I care if they'd changed it for some kind of misguided political correctness ... maybe, will I enjoy replaying these games on Evercade regardless ... absolutely! :-) Keep up the awesome work PK!
I wonder if Crystal dynamics was behind this, and blaze just went along with it. Exactly, at the end of the day it’s just a minor change that really doesn’t do much to it affect the enjoyment of playing the games.
They are unifying the games I believe so it fits with the new games. I find this whole thing ridiculous, people get over excited about everything especially if it's a negative spin, it's so tiring. They do this with films all the time when they make prequels. I don't think it had anything to do with Evercade. It's just how it is now for the games
Possibly not related but this is no lie... She was actually a man before Tomb Raider and went by the name of Rick Dangerous! 😆 Core Design originally made Rick Dangerous 1 & 2 before doing Tomb Raider. Rick was a hero for home computers just before Genesis & SNES came out. I wasn't happy at first when they changed him for a girl, or ladyboy, who knows... I got used to it eventually lol. Good to hear from you PK! 🤠👍
I don't think that's a fair observation. Rick Dangerous was its own thing, Core set out to do something different with Tomb Raider. In its earliest conception, Tomb Raider did have a male PC but it was not going to be Rick.
@@jessicasretrolunacy Rick Dangerous 1 was too close to Indiana Jones so was never going to be the main character come 3D, but he was the original Tomb Raiding mascot for home gaming while it lasted. Montezuma had his chance but sadly retired in the early 80's before making a comeback on Gameboy lol. 😉
This is easing the history of tomb raider! Next they’ll claim her name wasn’t originally going to be Laura (which is fact but the name was changed due to fears Americans couldn’t pronounce the name Laura) Common Evercade L + Ratio But seriously who is upset about this? What’s next they’re gonna kick off about Marvel changing Spider-Man’s origin, oh wait
I saw some other guy make a video about this , and I’m like, for real? He said her history was being erased by this and I just couldn’t help but laugh.
Yeah, I was born the year the TMNT comic book came out and like many, who were born around that time my first experience was with the original cartoon, and then going to the theater to see the original movie. Years later after the comics came out, they compiled the original first three issues into one graphic novel and colorized it (which I have). The funny thing too is in the back of the book there is an advertisement for VHS tapes of the TMNT cartoon. Yeah, time just keeps moving.
Well hey, for what it's worth at least you know you've got a solid "evercade" base. Those videos seem to do pretty good. I bet the quest video will kick off some day. Evergreen content that can gain clicks even after the hype is gone :)
Yeah, it would be nice if videos like the quest video did better. The Evercade community is very underserved for content and I appreciate their enthusiasm for the games .
I'm guessing the people who own Lara insisted they connect the games? Which makes sense since the butler from the first game appears in the last modern one? Also I'm pretty sure some of later TR take place before the first game?
So originally the survivor trilogy was a complete reboot. As of 2021 they decided the best thing to do was to unify the timelines. So the first order of business was retconning the first 3 games
@@Tanukitsune2it honestly has me excited because just that little retcon honestly fixes all the issue I had with the survivor trilogy. Because now we know now she does eventually become the Lara we all know! @@TombRaider_Remastered Like I said, I just played the last of the survivor games and I saw the butler from the first game, so it's implying she's the same Lara? Was this added or something?

Throughout the video
I call it the Lara Croft Collection instead of the Tomb Raider collection 🤦🏻♂️. My bad , you get the point .
I appreciate the commitment to calling the game Lara Croft instead of Tome Raider throughout the video.
Thank you . 😊
