I think that it's pretty cool that your wire tie is a lot like a wire tie that is used to tie rebar in concrete. It's neat to see tools used in the same way in different jobs.
Hey brother, have multiple barrels being filled at once with check valves (and indicators) so you never have to stop filter pump, just switch that indicated line to a new barrel.
Back in the day, they called them sap camps. At least in Maine, that is what they called them when I was growing up. And typically, they were just out in the woods. What you guys have there is the Taj Mahal of sugar houses! We had some nice sugar maples around my house when I was growing up. Used to help Dad tap the trees and boil sap. And we did it, one bucket at a time. Hahaha Great memories though.
I'm a hobby syrup maker. Only 51 trees and do my boiling in 3 steam pans above a wood fire. I do reverse osmosis to get the sap between 9 to 11 brix before going into the pans. Even starting at 10 brix, it is a long boil for me. It is amazing to me how fast the the syrup comes out of your evaporator! On the positive side.... I get more time to drink beer while watching the fire. Really enjoy watching your videos. I'd watch them all even if you weren't so beautiful.
40 years ago I worked for a construction company contracted to line 3500’ of a water diversion channel with 3-4’ of concrete. I tied reenforcing wire six days a week for ten months. I’ll bet I must have used several hundred thousand 6” and 8” wire ties like that. It was the highest paying job in the area at the time. Spent every dime I earned on cars, trucks, hot stereo and beer. Lots of beer! Nothing to show for it but had a good time…! Cheers! Whipple
Have to tell you I'm 77 and grew up in Michigan and helped my dad. We collected with a tractor and trailer with a barrel on it, hauled it to the sugar shack and drained it into the bigger barrel there and dad had a large pan he boiled it down in. As it got down to the end he would take it off into 10 gallon milk cans, take it to the house and mom would finish it on the kitchen stove and can it. What a difference and a beautiful setup you run. Oh I forgot, dad used a hand drill to tap and then we hung pails on the trees.
My great grandfather used to use the old hand drill too, my dad still has it along with the old gathering tank he used. Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful memories! 💕
What an AWESOME "Shanty". I've been a "back yard burner" for nearly 35 years. Got a taste for it back in the 1960's helping my older cousin dumping buckets and cooking over a wood fired flat pan in the old Sugar Shack, off Chaddock Rd. in Bethany. I would have never guessed that years later I would have my own Sap Shack not to far from there. I've been watching as I am working out of town this year and am missing the sugaring season, the first in a long time. Thanks for all the videos!
Another interesting Video Nikki. The inside of the new sugar shack is beautiful, I think this is the first time I've seen it finished. Thanks again for sharing.
Just found Uall. Great video and info. My big sis likes tapping g n maki g syrup. I assist. But apreciate your intelligence. Thanks again. I shared this with her. We see wats up. I subscribed. So now can contact uall. We in southeast ohio. S All farm. Not many trees. Folks years back logged all d maple. We dont. Very kool stuff
Great to see you all working in the new sugar shack! That is some cool and expensive looking equipment. When you were changing the saddle on the blue line, I noticed you were wearing on sort of sports watch. So, on the days when you spent all day on the woods, how many steps/miles did you walk? This is definitely a labor of love.
Thanks for the video, Nikki!!.. Very interesting watching the syrup processing happening live.. Received my Boxler Maple stocking hats yesterday.. Very nice!.. Will order a couple shirts when the inventory get's restocked.. All LG., XLG & XXLG are sold out right now.. Will keep checking in, and order when more stock arrives.. Have a nice weekend.. The video was awesome, thanks Nikki!!.😉
Wow, what a beautiful building! Those beams are so cool and the evaporator looks amazing contrasting against all the wood! This looks like it would be out of Willy Wonka's chocolate factory, I bet it smells amazing in there, what a cool process and so neat to see it’s a family event too.
Just ordered up some syrup and seasonings from your website. Great videos. Thanks for sharing what your family does and I can't wait to try out your maple apple pie recipe.
"Why do I have to explain when I got you?" LOL!!! No idea what he was doing, but that cracked me up! 🤣 Yeah, always got to work out the kinks in a new building/operation. Heck... You're a farmer, there's always issues. Great video! 🍁🥞😁
Nikki what do you ro your sap to? Maybe you could show your ro set up. Your new sugar house is next level. Syrup looked like A amber. I’m a small maple farmer I run 800 taps in western ma. Hoping for a few more weeks of good weather.
Like your videos. New sugar house is awesome. Nice operation. I see in some of your videos you are wearing sweatshirts that have your logo on the shirt and your name on the sleeve. Anyway I could get info on how I could get mine done that way. Thanks Joe.
Yes, you can find a local screen printer that will put your logo on apparel! If you are in the area and are looking fir recommendation let me know and I can send you some people I recommend!
@@MapleFarmer I unfortunately won’t be in your area as I live a long way away from you. But would love to check your setup out someday. Is there someone that I could have make what I need and be able to send items in mail. Thanks Joe
The genuine maple syrup here in New Zealand is over $16 per little bottle, I only have tried the cheapest one made from sugar at $3 per bottle but definitely not that nice though,
It would be nice to have a better explanation on what the boiling process is and where does the power go does your filter take it out how much do you use how hot is maple liquid when it comes out of evaporater
Yes I know! I was planning on going more in depth and introducing a new personality to the page - Warren - but he didn’t feel like talking so this week I’ll just film it with me talking just like in every other video! 😂
@@MapleFarmer ok thank you. I didn't understand and me and my sisters are trying to help our baby sister make her own maple syrup so we're just trying to learn is all.
Hi, Just wanted to wish you and your entire family a very Happy and Blessed Thanksgiving and always. Thanks for sharing 🙏🙏🙏Much Blessings to you. ✝Lord-Jesus-Christ dot 🙏c🙏o🙏m

I'm not even going to try to spell the name of the powder that you add to the syrup, but it is an extremely versatile ingredient with so many benefits

I am still mesmerized by the timber framing in the sugar shanty. It is beautiful

Just to be part of late Winter turning into Spring - priceless. From a hobbyist who enjoys the New England seasons. 🍺
Nothing like new equipment, such a roller coaster ride
but for real! 😂
4:11 I haven't seen one of those wire tiers since my days growing up on the farm bagging potatoes. Nostalgic

What an incredible setup!! I don't think I would classify it as a "shanty" though...I think fortress would be more suitable
It will alway be a shanty to me 😂 it’s just what we grew up calling them!
Congrats on your new facility. Hope you all are doing well. Stay warm 😊

Poor guy is like me, doesn't like talking on camara, lol. I was thinking there'd be a large pot over a fire, but that's one fancy outfit!
I’m trying to get him on camera more but he doesn’t like it 😂
how many total trees do you have to tap?
Way cool Love your channel

Amazing what an operation
I see he is adding the maple flavour!!
Thanks Guys,,that is some good stuff,,
Thanks for tuning in!
Wow how many gallons of syrup do you guys do in a day? I am so jealous of how many more maple trees you guys have.
How many taps do you have? And how many gallons do you typically make a season?

Have you tried the saddle fittings from DSD Stars? You should check them out. Way simpler design and very heavy duty.
Awesome video thanks for sharing ❤️
Nikki , how many barrels an hour does your new evaporator do.....our new waterloo does 3
What do you guys use for fuel for the fire
diesel

how many liters of sap dose it take to get a liter of syrup ? or gallons ? are they 44 gallon drums?
Look at that Liquid Gold
It’s a beautiful sight!
I assume the boiler runs on natural gas or LP? That's got to be a pretty large energy bill in the process!
How many gallons are you hoping to make this year
More than last year! 😂
@@MapleFarmer 🤣 that's a good goal.
Boil sap to make Maple Syrup once it runs
thru your RO!
What is the eveparation rate on that. Also size and fuel
Here in Michigan sap is slow
same here currently
how many taps per mainline?

❤ must be your brother? He doesn't seem to thrilled to be on your video. I kinda feel bad for you, you seem super nice. 😊

With that draw off, you have to running 20% off the RO
So if we buy your maple syrup we're consuming ground up silica rock???
no, its filtered out
no it is filtered out in the filter press. The filter is what makes the syrup clear as it takes out any debris. We are certified organic!
She should show u the filter cakes when they change-up the papers
