An other season starting up ;) I just help my neighbors building a new pomp station in the middle of the wood, they are gonna have 3000 more taps this year ;)
I said, "Ah ha" when Warren was tightening the clamps. That's a great idea to alternate the direction of the clamp action. It is so neat to see you all once again. I missed you. You brought a precious jewel into the world though, so it was worth the wait.
@@MapleFarmer I guess but he is a little dry , but hey it works. LOL I am just fascinated the amount of sap and piping it takes to make such a wonderful prize!
Really enjoy this and learn from it. My dad helped one of his buddies collect and process here is west Michigan. He had a collection system as well. My son-in-law is now starting out. They are just a couple years in but get better every year and keep putting anything they earn back into the system. It is work but Big fun with the family.
Nikki and Warren i hope you have a great 2024 maple season from Blue Eye Maple Syrup and Strawberries in Northwestern PA.BTW Happy New Year to you and your family!
Busy time of the year for everyone in the maple world. Started working on my woods the other week, a couple of storms did some damage. I'm way south in the maple belt we usually tap in late January early February. I run about 250 taps I'm a drop in the bucket compared to you guys. Great video can't wait for the season to start
We have about 26,000 taps now and adding another roughly 5,000 taps this year. I started fixing lines and downed trees the first week of November.. This work never ends with the high winds, tree rats ,porcupines etc..We should start tapping in 2 weeks as well. We only use stainless steel fittings.. We also use T posts instead of sticks holding it up. Lets hope for another great season. Great video keep up the great work.
The stainless steel fittings due insure you don’t get separation but the cost difference is so high. I still use plastic fittings in my sugarbush. Very jealous of your woods, very clean and minimal slope. Enjoy your videos, great looking sugarhouse, the work the family has done is impressive. All the best for a good season.
Hey Warren and Nikki..... In my tipler physics book... It has a diagram of a rope stretched between a stump and a truck... It's one of those story problems..... So okay it says how strong will the rope have to be to if you went to the center of the rope and pulled 90° to it.. that is halfway between the truck and the stump the line is pulled tight ....and now you grab onto it and you walk sideways 90 degrees and pull. So the rope makes a 3 degree angle.... Just in case you didn't know it's called a vector pull.... That rope has to have over 1400 lb strength... There's a diagram in the lineman's handbook... That says that a man can drag 1500 lb like that... I was thinking if you stretch those lines too tight and a branch falls on one in the middle it's going to break them real easy... The Alaska pipeline has goggles .. in it which allows for expansion and contraction and different pressures.. it would be nice if you could figure out a shock absorber system... With some stretchable ropes that act like shock absorbers. Maybe you've already got it figured out it's just a suggestion.
I have another idea... What if you had a long. Coupling.... In which it was made to slide in case it built up too much pressure...... Or how about this idea.... Run some hot water through a 10-ft long piece and bend it around a tire... And then... Fasten it to the tire somehow... And now when it builds up pressure it will not pull on the pipe so hard... I should think when that pipe pulls apart after you cut it as far as it did that it has an ungodly amount of pressure on it... I'm trying to think of something that can create the pipe to be able to relax. Just a thought sir have a nice day and happy New Year.
Happy New Year Nikki! I love watching the process and love hearing problem solving. I’m so excited to start tapping the Big Leafs here in Oregon. We are having almost record warm weather this year, but the season here is much longer. We could tap November-March during a colder year. But climate change is much more evident when you work outdoors for years. Also, I need a Warren in my life. He can build and do so many things. Please double him and send the double to Oregon. 😂
i hope you all had a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. It is great to see you back making videos. It will awesome to follow the process as your family progresses through the 2024 Maple season.
Happy New Year, so glad you are back. I’ll never see a Maple Farm or even your part of the country except though these videos. So pretty the forest where you live. Thanks for sharing!
I believe I heard Warren say something about possibly tapping the trees in the next couple weeks, can you or do you tap them before the sap starts running? Thanks for the great content!
🇺🇸 I wish y'all a very happy new year 🎆🎉. Glad to see you back you certainly always acted like 'the good woman who's hard to keep down', LOL. Even happier to see the little man making an appearance helping out! 👼🎅🦌
Yes unfortunately we have trespassers even tho we put up posted signs. Warren and dad have even had bullets fly by them while working it’s why Warren is usually always in bright colors regardless of the time of year.
I have a question as not long ago I was noticing a couple of brands of maple syrup in Costco ( in Canada ) that would be more of a specialty brand over the standard kirkland brand. On both these two brands that came in more fancy type glass bottles, they screamed "Organic" on them and had a price to match the hype. So is there actually any difference between maple syrup that has been on the market for years vs the claimed organic theme ?. Isn't all maple syrup organic as long as no additives are added into it ?
Nikki,.from a 64 year.old Grandma I wanted to tell you that you are.stunningly beautiful. Your teeth are absolutely gorgeous. Happy New Year.
Thank you so much!
Got a little snow up in Western NY!

I find it so peaceful to walk in the woods in the winter. Do you ever run across trespassers in your woods?
Ran across you guys today. Lived in Chaffee in the 90s. I enjoyed your episode.
Thanks for tuning in! We know Chaffee well!!
Another great video. Happy New.Year.

So Glad your back on with new content. Your easier to look at than Warren LOL. Looking for to seeing all that sap and syrup…
But he’s a lot more knowledgeable

Happy new year! Great to get back!
Happy New Year.
Around here they tap in February. Seeing as y’all have so many taps to get in starting in January makes sense.
It really depends on the weather and if we have a decent sized tapping crew!
Great Video. Love the channel, since I was from Michigan

Nikki and Warren i hope you have a great 2024 maple season from Blue Eye Maple Syrup and Strawberries in Northwestern PA.BTW Happy New Year to you and your family!
Happy New Year! How do you maintain lines in a timber? In Iowa the deer, would have everything torn, apart in one night!
I received some of your syrup for Christmas from a neighbor friend. Really good stuff, I highly recommend it!
Good job Happy new year
Happy New Year to you!!
Nice to see you back nikki i bet you wish it was warmer and none of that white stuff on ground

Good stuff! Good luck this season, maple season is always a fun (and exhausting) time!
Keep these videos coming, all Winter long. really like the maple content, but thrive your skills content too. Happy new year
A person definitely doesn't need exercise equipment with all the walking you do through your maple grove.
ain't that the truth

I should have watched until the end before I made a comment it looks like you guys know what you're doing.
Thank you for the video 😊

Yaa.
Do your lines ever freeze?
how do you keep this pluming rom freezing

Or it’s brass valve without lead inside…

How do you remember where everything is .if forget half of them lol
When you spend alot of time in the woods you tend to remember a lot
I still have some of my Syrup left over in refrigerator will it Last like honey Does?
Yes it does! But the real question is how do you have some left? I eat maple syrup on everything! 😂
How many taps per 1 in main are you on average
Do you and Warren ever have issues with Hunters in the woods?
Yes unfortunately we have trespassers even tho we put up posted signs. Warren and dad have even had bullets fly by them while working it’s why Warren is usually always in bright colors regardless of the time of year.
Nothing worse then a hunter that has no honor. @@MapleFarmer
IF YOU TAP IN THE SECOND WEEK IN JANUARY HOW LONG ARE THE TAPS GOOD FOR I HEARD ONLY 6 WEEKS ?????.
I don’t understand the difference in wet and dry lines. What are the dry for.
How much.sap flow do you get when temps are below freezing versus late winter and spring when daytime temps are warmer?
We don’t get any sap if temps aren’t above freezing
I’m surprised animals, specifically deer don’t damage your lines?
They do on occasion but typically most damage is from squirrels or fallen trees

TO COLD FOR ME
It’s not even that cold yet!
I bet y'all appreciate not having to work in 3 feet of snow!
it definitely makes it easier
When do yall start selling Syrup this year?
As soon as we start making it! We also have about 20 gallons of 2023 syrup still in stock on the website!
👍👍👍🙏🙏
Are you and Warren related
He’s my brother!
