- Motown greats Smokey Robinson and the Miracles had a Top 40 hit with this ballad in 1969, a gentle tour-de-force from the man who helped propel Motown to worldwide success as both songwriter and artist. This rare 1969 TV appearance has appeared elsewhere in lesser form, but this pristine quality video preserved here celebrates the legacy of a brilliant artist whom Bob Dylan once described as the greatest songwriter in America
Where there’s Smoke there’s great music,love it.
Why don’t they produce music like these anymore?thank you for the memories.
Wow. This is gold. Smokey and the Miracles. The precursor to all of the pretty singing groups of the 70's: The Moments, Blue Magic, The Stylists, Enchantment, The Dramatics, The Delfonics, et. al.
Dam, I wanna argue with you, but I'm not sure that I can becuase the Delfonics and the the Moments is the shit alone, that's almost saying, if it wasn't for Smokey and Miracles, there wouldn't have been those groups. I don't think we can make that assertion.
@stevietatum5501 Every talented singer was influenced by some great singer that proceeded them. Their singing style becomes an amalgamation of their influences and their natural abilities. Greatness begets greatness. Nothing to argue there.
I think Smokey & Miracles were influenced by the Platters. I believe Smokey did influence all those plus some. Motown was the juganaut that propelled the movement. Record deals became more lucrative and sprung up all over the country. People saw what was happening at jumped at the chance to make money
@@steviebee333 Smokey was the inspiration for all of the great falsettos singers of the 70's and 80's.
This is a live performance on television in its medieval days. 👏🏾🤓
This song bring so many memories back in love and basement parties with the one you love.
Beautiful song. Song this song at a talent show in the seventh grade and we won❤

What year was this and what girls came and talked to you 😂😂😂
.....i was first year college when this song came out...now i am 71 ....so much good memories..
Astonishing, how and what he was writing composing.
The lyrics, the music, the backing vocal parts.
Excellent! There will never be an Smokey💜
You’re doggone right.
I was in 3rd grade when this new girl came into my class, and I couldn't stop staring at her, her name was Joann Williams! I listen to this song all night thinking of her! The next day it started all over again the Staring, she stuck out her tongue at me and said what are you looking at, and stop looking at me, but I had this crush! I didn't know she had many brothers and she told them I was picking on her! Well three of them beat me up really good! But I still had that crush! Many years later her and I got the chance to talk about my crush on her, and she said she didn't know, so that’s why you were staring so much, she told me that was so sweet of you, and I got you beat up! So we started dating and made out listening to this song , so it's a special one for me! Philly Cool World Valley!
Always loved this song since my parents introduced it to me. But this live version is absolute GOLD ❤
This is my All Time Favorite ❤ So special, beautiful, and soulful 🎶🎶🎶🎵
Magnificent. Slightly slower than the recording and with the live band hitting like crack. Smokey is the G.O.A.T.
And then he sang it himself even, with a distinctive signature vocal artistry style & sound.
They all have on 'High Collar' shirts that was the fad in the 1960s, I remember begging my father for money to buy one and how happy I was when he gave me the money. You can't beat their music.
Damn thanks for that insight must of been amazing bro!
I LOVE this song💛.
His musical gifts were untouchable🔥
Extremely well said👍
Every time I watch & listen 👂🏽 to this, I get chills, the precision vocals are so smooth 🎵🎶🎙️😎👊🏽💯❤️👂🏽 2:15
Yo the background Harmony
❤❤❤. ❤
Omgg I will always..
Love this beautiful jam
Great song
Thanks for posting such a good quality version of this video haha! It Looks and sounds great! The Miracles sound so good singing this jam live!!
One of their few live tv performances where can you can hear the background vocals clearly. I don’t know if they purposely turned the mikes down to showcase Smokey’s lead or what, but on there early television appearances you can barely hear the background vocals, if at all
Totally agree!!
They all had their own separate mic alot of times the background singers would sing into one mic that's why it sound so much different
I've passed the point of no return
We. Learned to sing
💖💖💖💖💖💖
it was possibly the spell chequer thingy messing with you.. happens to me all the time 👍🏻
Beautiful but nothing compared to the recording. He's one of the greatest songwriters of this age.
Don't know what you're listening to
but/cause this is an excellent live
