Yaaas! They had great comedic timing together.
My favorite epi was when they made up at Thanksgiving and Patti and Carroll kissed on the lips. Patti loved to kiss on the lips, as she did the same thing to Whitley during the Christmas episode. It showed true love and how much they really loved and admired each other.
I love the episode when they met for the first time at Dawaynes and Whitleys engagement party.
Right! They played off of each other so well. I loved those two as the “moms”❤️

Ironically, I doubt the same sentiment would have been felt had Kadeem and Darryl kissed to show true love and admiration for each other, or if any of the other males in the cast did the same. I am not being flippant or crass, nor accusing you of being this way; I am making a serious observation. I just never understood why society tends to applaud displays of affection as something wonderful between women, but is frowned upon between men, even more so back in the 1980's and 1990's. Such strange double standards in this world.

I never would have thought Dawayne and Whitley would have ever became a couple and married.
I still get a kick out of watching Whitley and Dwayne's wedding on DVD. Patty Labelle and Dianne Carroll were at the top in their performances as rival mothers-in-law.
They probably wouldn’t have if Lisa Bonet hadn’t been brought back to The Cosby Show.
I have always enjoyed watching A Different World. It's a timeless series. Just as "Sanford and Son, "Good Times", "Martin", "Living Single", "The Cosby Show" and "What's Happening". Every cast member was funny in their own way. And they ALL played well off of each other. From season 2 through season 6 it was nothing but good writing, quality storylines and great actors and actresses. I'm so glad that Bill Cosby had the foresight to create this show and bring Debbie Allen on board to revitalize it after a stale first season. Ridiculously smart choice.
Kadeem is still adorable. He has always seemed so wholesome 🥰

Yeah, and it's kinda hard to look at him like that!!! He's really aged!!! but he's a great actor and him and Jasmine Guy were the highlight of 227!!!

Some of the funniest episodes of "A Different World" were when Dawaynes mother, played by the legendary Patti LaBelle, and Whitleys mother, played by the legendary late Dianne Carroll, met and argued with each other.
When I saw the reunion I cried. 😢 This show was everything to me growing up. It brought back great childhood memories. I love everyone on the show!

I also want to say Thank you to Dr Bill Cosby, thee amazing and talented Debbie Allen, as well as the phenomenal cast for bringing the world a T.V show that was so well thought out, relatable, inspiring, and entertaining. You enter the homes of millions and brought a standard of television that was needed then...and needed even more now. You made us laugh, cry, fall in love, learn, grow and so much more. Thank you!! Thank you for covering topics such as Domestic violence, Racism, Health epidemics, Political views, Women's Rights, Military duty, and various teenage and family issues just to name a few. "A Different World" was a story of Love, Friendship, Romance, Higher Education, Family, and Growth. I can go on and on about this masterpiece of a show. I am grateful for witnessing this show first hand and I will sing its honor forever ❤️

I've always loved A Different World. Truly a groundbreaking sitcom in every sense that word is defined.

Not to put Lisa Bonet down but I am glad that the show evolutionized by having Dwayne and Whitley as the main characters because I think that's when the show skyrocketed. I love this show!

*Debbi Allen saved the show after season 1 that's why it survived.* The writers did not know anything about HBCU Colleges and Lisa Bonet was the ONLY reason people were Tuning in Season 1. With her leaving it would've been canceled if Debbie wasn't brought in as Executive producer with her Real Life experience as an HBCU College graduate. Also with her creative ideas that brought the Show up to speed to a more Realistic & Fun Experience and touched on Actual Real life topics & social issues.
She saved it from being a typical Cosby-ish show, because after its first season the show was number 2 in the ratings. She made the show pretty much stand on its own.
They actually wanted to make the show about Maggie’s experience at a HBCU.😳

Best thing that happened to show was Lisa Bonet getting pregnant leaving show after first season. Dwayne and Whitley were better for TV than Dwayne and Denise which would’ve went that way I feel.

@Draper Scott It is a shame that she smokes, I am sure that has a lot to do with it. It actually brought tears to my eyes and a chill when down my spine when I heard that rattling wheezing sound when she laughed. I have seen first hand the horrible toll smoking takes on a body. Sure hope she quits before it's too late, if it isn't already too late.
@Draper Scott I didn't either until I heard her laugh and did a search to see if she smokes. I saw the interview where she pulled out the pack of cigarettes as the most embarrassing thing in her purse. She said that maybe the shame of the moment will help her quit. Felt like a punch in the stomach. I hate to see anyone be addicted to something that can ultimately kill them. In my lifetime, I have watched too many smokers suffer so hellishly with the pain of just trying to catch a breath with emphysema or literally rotting from the inside out, smelling like a rotting corpse from lung cancer as it eats it way through the back, as it did with my grandmother. Just breaks my heart!

I enjoy watching reruns of the series on TV1. I was born in 1989 when the series was on its second season. I discovered and started watching the show, 2-3 years ago on cable.
I am a 59-year-old women, and I look at this show, whenever and where ever I can find, I did go to and HBCU in Nashville, but their acting was so amazing, the quality, hmm never felt corny, felt really great. as a southerner at least. LOL.
I am also a 59-year-old woman and look at this show Mon-Fri for 2rs a day. I, too, graduated from a HBCU in NC.
One of My old time favorites till this day love rewatching all the Episodes always brings a Smile and laughter such an awesome show with an Amazing cast.

That was a great show indeed. Thank Dr. Bill Cosby for giving many great childhood memories. Kadeem Harrison, Jasmine Guy, Lisa Bonet, Cree Summer and more were all great actors.

Kadeem looks nice he gained weight but he carries it well still has that witty personality...Jasmine looks great also she has maintained her weight, and her confidence that she exudes through her personal style ( hairstyle choice, business suit, no necklace and timberland heels)...she has her own vibe...I appreciate her being herself and not being cookie cutter standard of beauty...she knows who she is and doesn't care what less accomplished people have yo say about her...great interview.

Mexican girl, and was I ever welcomed ,truely wonderful people.It was a wonderful memory and experience.Miss Allen , kadeem, cree ,dawn,cree,all the cast was very down to earth, and made you feel right at home. The level of talent on this set, Miss Patti LaBelle,Miss Allen the whole family of actors , everyone true artists.It was for me a once in a lifetime. And I feel blessed to say I had that experience. Thank you all.

I remember when Dwayne was attracted to Denise from the Cosby show. He liked her from the beginning but his timing was off. He should’ve got with her from the beginning. If you like a female man you got a talk up women don’t hang around but Jasmine, Guy and Dwayne Wayne have a strong relationship on a different world and we can’t forget about Freddy the female with the curly hair. She was beautiful.❤
