Karen Malina White was at Howard when I was there! She was also Miss Howard one year. I am so proud of her, and her amazing accomplishments! This show was ground breaking, and so much fun to watch.
"Unify us and don't divide us." What a perfect ending to a perfect trip down memory lane with the cast of A Different world. I love our people and I love that we once owned Thursdays nights on TV back in the day to tell our story and see our lives, love, trials, and beauty reflected back at us.
I lived and died with this show. A year out of high school and one year into a military career..it just seemed like someone had peeked in on my life IN HIGH SCHOOL, not college (because I didnt go to college). But a lot of what they were dealing with in college was stuff that I dealt with personally in high school. The show grabbed me in a way that felt like the producers of the show, KNEW WHO I WAS as a young black person. And that happened when Debbie Allen took over the show. Before she showed up and got everybody in line, I watched the show in a very objective way...never attaching anything personal to it, because I had my doubts about how long the show would stay on, in the first place. I loved the battles between the two legends, Diahann Carroll and Patti LaBelle. And anytime Jenifer Lewis popped up, you knew you were going to have fun.
I'm so excited about watching the Red Table it overwhelmeing that People care so much for me May God continue to bless you and your families we don't know where life will take us but to know that God is still in control is and he is a God that keeps his Promises is all I need it is called A Fullness of Joy written by Dr Karen Hayes -Harris Editor for the National Baptist Convention. This has encouraged me along the way you all count no matter who you are Gwendolyn Boagni
Oh, I love different world. I couldn’t wait till it came on. I believe it was on Thursday nights. Also, I love the fact that y’all had beautiful shades of Black people on the show. I was PROUD to be black. Thank you Debbie Allen, Bill Cosby, and the cast.
I’m sorry but Debbie Allen saved ADW. The whole vibe was different when she took over. Hardly anyone refers to season 1 unless they are referencing it historically to reflect the inception of the series. This series is engrained into the very fabric of who I grew to be. Having aired the year after I was born and ending when I was about 7, ADW was an intricate part of me and my parents Thursday night. I saw Whitley as a little girl and fell in love 😍 I wanted to be an HBCU student and I wanted to marry a Dwayne Wayne 😂. When it went into syndication over the years I was elated. I got to grow with it all over again at different phases in my own life. It’s eerie how my life is similar to Whitley’s character. Life imitates art, art imitates life.
Amen! When Debbie Allen took over EVERYONE, got a personality, and the storylines expanded. It became more about college life and how each character was growing into the person they were meant to be.
A Different World came out around the same time that I was starting out in life. Watching the show I became inspired to go to college, and to finish. Not only did I finish my undergraduate degree, but I also went back to school for my EMBA. Thank you to each and every one of you that was a part of A Different World. Your show has made a tremendous difference in my life!
This touched my whole heart. It is really incredible the legacy this show has built. And truly inspired me. Debbie Allen is a phenomenal woman and force and truly is one of a kind. A living icon.
I'm 65 years old. I watched every single episode plus had an opportunity to be hired as a union extra on 3 episodes. The television show, "A Different World" is a piece of national treasure. Thank you to the entire crew, actors and executives for bringing these grand episodes/examples of African-American and American life to the entire world. 💝💝❤❤💝💝🙏🏽🙏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
I am at home, lots to do. This video popped I am like, I'll watch for 5 minutes but end up watching the entire episode. This was one of my favorite shows. Because of this show, I attended an HBCU. I am watching and crying through it. It was so wholesome to see everyone, the bond that they had with each other and knowing what a big difference each person made in my life. I really think this generation needs a show like that, bringing our some young talents. Hats down to such an amazing cast. Madame Debbie, I have no words... exceptional.
I can't get enough of these reunions. Such beautiful, powerful, and connected circle of Beings. Thank you all for the spirit you still bring to infinite experience. This episode was short, sweet, whole, and complete. Yet I still vanity get enough. Well done , Jada!
I love this was one of the best Red Table talks. I had the pleasure of meeting Mrs. Debbie Allen a few times, because my cousin taught dance class at her dance academy, and my cousin was so close to Debbie, he became Debs god son and he had his wedding at her house in Santa Monica, we had a blast that night dancing, drinking, what a beautiful memory, theres many of memories including hanging out with her kids, but anyways she is so down-to-earth and welcomed us in her beautiful home and her husband & children were also there and very loving too. Thanks you Jada for this episode.❤
It's nice to see that everyone is looking good and doing well. There were so many great episodes on this show. My favorite is Whitley and Dewayne's wedding which they said was improvised. They had such a great love story.
This was beautiful to watch! Debbie Allen deserves a lifetime achievement award for her creativity, grace and generosity in sharing her gift with us! What a powerhouse 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
I love that they included Marisa Tomei too. #ADifferentWorld Remains one of my top favorite shows. I had such a huge crush on #KadeemHardison. I used to daydream about him and cry over him 😅☺️
Unify us, don't divide us...POWERFUL!!! I feel so much a part of that show. I miss it dearly and I'm still working my way to my better day. I refuse to quit. Thank you for sharing this AWESOME event Red Table Talk. It has help to further infuse my determination to achieve that special goal of mine. Peace and blessings to Debbie Allen and the entire cast of "A Different World". The legacy lives on.
Let us not forget the other part of Debbie Allen's prayer: " ...and we are challenged for the work we must continue to do." We as a people are still asleep and allowing ourselves to be distracted and misdirected by nonsensical "current issues" created by the Europeans to cause further distention among our MOORISH brothers and sisters! Singing about it doesn't make it so. WAKE UP MOORS!!! Learn the truth about your Nationality and Birthrights before its too late!
This show impacted so many of us in an epic way! So many us have joined sororities and fraternities and attended HBCUs as a result of being seen by these wonderful people! ❤thank alll of yall for taking on the challenge to uplift us!
Thank you SO MUCH for sharing this. Like many, I too grew up with A Different World and still watch the show to this very day. The level of black excellence and topics covered, haven’t been matched with other shows. I love this group of people.
I literally did not want this Red Table Talk episode to end. Touched my heart in such a great way. I started watching Season 1 like so many other, so to see Marisa Tomei show up with the rest of the cast was almost like having an unexpected childhood reunion take place. Thank you Jada and thank you Debbie Allen I still hope that God allows me to meet both of you queens that have been apart of my life for so long.

I went to an HBCU because of a Different World. First person in my family to earn a degree, my career allowed me to 100% fund the education of 2 of my nieces. My nephew graduates from high school next year and has his sites set on Morehouse. 👏🏾
Thank you all. You are all such amazing people. I’ve gotten to meet you all at some point in my life. Yall came to a cast and crew screening of the 5 Heartbeats and it meant so much to me. I love you all.
Loved this episode. Ms. Allen brings it wherever she shows up! A talented cast and a memorable show that positively impacted so many lives. 37 years 💪🏽 and counting!
I absolutely LOVE a Different World, the entire cast, special guests and the creator(s),etc. Different World inspired me to go to college besides my father instilling the importance of a good education and wanting to honor my ancestors for the sacrifices they made for me and all my melanated Brothas and Sistas. Different World and Soul Food are my favorite sitcoms/shows Thank you! Thank you! Thanks you! PLEASE BRING DIFFERENT WORLD BACK!!!!! Our youth need it.
Loved the whole cast especially Glynn Turman who was in Cooley High. Everyone had their own special part and I looked forward to watching it everyday even while in college.
Glenn Thurman actually did a movie in my hometown of Galveston Texas, the movie was called Together Brothers and it's on UA-cam, Barry White did the soundtrack, he is also from Galveston. Anyway, I love that show, all those beautiful Black Ladies were so amazing!
Loooove this❤ It is soooo great to hear the behind the scenes and stories they have. Debbie the true G.O.A.T❤ Love every single one of you and those who were not at the table too! You all made your mark and it will forever be remembered❤️❤️❤️
This was a life changing show loved everyone and every show. Debbie Allen is one of a kind and a shining beacon of wisdom and strength. Thanks for sharing🙏🏻❤️
New era ADW is needed on TV because the show was positive. ADW is known for awesome stage performance. ADW will always be my ❤ show, I have repeatedly watched each episode and will continue to watch. ADW inspired me for higher education. A HBCU graduated and developed a successful career. Thank you, A Different World ❤
Thank you Mrs. Allen for changing the culture of A Different World. As an HBCU student I truly appreciate this show. You did a great job incorporating your HBCU into the show. I still watch this show presently. I grew up enjoying a Different World. All of the actors were great. All of the continuous best. Thank you Mrs. Smith for highlighting A Different World and your cast members. I loved RTT and A Different World.
Ooh, I loved this talk today. It took me down memory lane. I visited my childhood and I remember loving this show and all of the actors/actresses. ❤❤ Jada, I can't express the love I have for you, it's protective; like a baby sister. My hat is off to Debbie Allen, The Goat. ❤❤❤
what a beautiful talented group of people i so enjoyed this and thank you for such a positive show your all amazing and can we get a reboot of a different world. GOD BLESS.
This show was it for my teen/college years! I was not going to go to college, but this show encouraged me! I myself went to a Black college for this reason. Our colleges are the best learning experiences ever!
A Different World moved me to go to Hampton U, the real Hillman! I just needed to be there and my life is ao much better for it! I loved this show so much! I even wore rhe Whitley hair bow!
One of the best shows ever!!! It was GREAT for the culture!!! They all did an AMAZING JOB!!! kUDDOS AND MUCH LOVE TO DEBBIE ALLEN AND THE ENTIRE CAST!!! I sure wish Sinbad was healthy!! Sending healing prayers to him!!!
I remember coming home from school and watching this show while doing my homework. The best tv times, now it's pure garbage on. Debbie #Legend! Classic!
I want to say this table talk took me back. Different World was a show I made time to always watch. I came up in that time when going to an HBCU was a goal we all wanted to accomplish. I must say I choose the road of being a mother early in life but my son's have picked up the torch and are currently attending HBCU's. Dance was also a part of my childhood. Being able to watch these ground breaking shows with my children is priceless. Thank you cast, writers and directors for showing Our Race in a positive light. Changing the narrative is always important. Thank you All. Too meet you would be a dream come true but this table talk makes me feel so connected cause I watched the journey as you all created it. Stay Positive and Productivity Blessed. Education is the way to go.
There has to be a way that some kind of 4-part series can be done about "Where Are They Now -- Different World" mini series, something along those lines!! I know the world would be glued to the tube to watch 🙂
Never saw an episode of the red table, but this episode has to be one of the most inspiring and entertaining. Thanks Jada for orchestrating this brilliant heartwarmlng production. Debbie Allen is a master in all respects. And she inspired her subjects (Young and older) to greatness.
This episode blessed me to my core!! Just as everyone has stated, "A Different World" made a significant impact on my educational journey. I looked forward to watching every Thursday night at 8:00 p.m.(est) on NBC! My absolute favorite episode was the wedding of Dewayne and Whitley. I also enjoyed the final episode again centered around everyone's successes, and again, Dewayne and Whitley leaving the hallowed grounds of Hillman College to embark upon a new life and family in Japan.
In the early days when I was a music student at Cedar Valley College in Lancaster, Texas I absolutely LOVED this show! Never missed an episode. I just knew I would one day land a guest role on the show. In addition, I must never forget how much I LOVED Fame as well. I loved watching you Debbie. This meeting brought back so many memories. Best to ALL of you!
THIS WAS SO AWESOME! It has made my day. God bless all of you and the work you have created that will go on to inspire and teach people especially youth for generations.
I like how Jasmine has been speaking up for Lisa Bonet lately.
Omgoodness, I loved this show. I soooo related to Denise Huxtable 😂. I wasn't focused at all during the first few years of my collegiate career.
I liked that Jasmine guy stood up for Lisa Bonet. I don’t like how her character was dummed down. She was quirky, not stupid.
Yep! She always said she didn’t like how they treated Lisa Bonet in the show
Jasmine is a good friend. I always felt they treated Lisa bad. She was misunderstood.
Was there bad blood?
It’s Debbie’s mentorship… oh my God. ❤
We need A Different World back! Our kids need this show.
I agree - kids need to watch an episode a day (or more) to have an appreciation for college life, and the benefits of education. God bless you!
With this cast as the deans, professors, etc…
amen

She was always my fave!

Really enjoyed this walk down memory lane.

Love the show A Different World. HBCUs Matter.
