    Thanks for giving credit to ovals! I know some road racers think it's just turn left all the time but there's so much more that goes into it. Love seeing veteran road racers give oval some love and job well done! It's not easy racing at plate tracks, especially when it's not your main form of racing. Good job, Dave!

      As a road racer I can definitely appreciate the techniques of oval and dirt oval races, irl and in sim.
      However, unless you already know what's going on, the little details aren't obvious if you're just watching.

      I use to think that till I tried it for myself and it’s pretty dam intense when your the one behind the wheel and your surrounded by cars trying to keep it straight while not trying to take anyone out but also trying to not get taken out it’s crazy lol I also found out how hard it is to save tire and still be fast.

    It’s only a turn to the left, but the concentration to drive on a constant knife edge bumper to bumper is pure ecstasy. Nothing beats going 3 wide lap after lap and holding those perfect lines.
    As a Brit, it took me a good year to fully grasp the etiquette of Oval racing, even understanding how to control your car once you’ve been caught out in a wreck is in itself a skill of its own. But once you’ve got the right mindset, I think oval racing on super speedways is unbeatable.

    Only advice I have for ya is there are times in draft racing where dragging your brake instead of lifting to slow up is much better, it helps you keep your forward momentum which is obviously key in this type of racing. Literally adds tons of work to the physical aspect of sim racing but is definitely beneficial to getting the runs you need on cars

    when I signed up for iRacing, my only intention was road, but being the red blooded American I am, I had to try Ovals... The wheel to wheel racing is so intense, the tire wear is also huge and like road can play a massive role in who wins.... Short track I absolutely love.

  • @gt_blaze1764
    @gt_blaze1764 11 місяців тому +15

    Dave I'd love to see you do an oval race at Bristol or Martinsville. Short track racing is the lifeblood of American motorsports. Your reactions when oval racing are gold. I can only imagine how entertaining it would be to see you banging doors at Bristol.

    • @devinaschenbrenner2683
      @devinaschenbrenner2683 10 місяців тому +1

      @garyr7027 I disagree. They require different kinds of "work." And neither allow you to relax. To be good at ovals you have to be smooth, like road courses. Both require immense concentration for different reasons. And Oval racing has different rules than road course racing. Your allow to bump and bang, your allowed to shove, your allowed more than one blocking move, anywhere on the track. Your allowed to quite literally shove people out of your way, as long as it doesn't cause a wreck. I would argue that as a driver, you have more to worry about on an Oval than a Road course.

    • @ggsimmonds1
      @ggsimmonds1 10 місяців тому +1

      @@devinaschenbrenner2683 oval racing has more of a driver vs driver element to it while road racing is more driver vs track. I think oval racing is much more tactical while road racing is more technical. Definitely agree that they are different kinds of "work" and one is not inherently more than the other, they are just different

    Cool video! As an American and Nascar fan for years I can say that there is skill to Oval racing just like any other discipline of racing. Racing ovals has Superspeedways (Talladega, Daytona), Mile and a halfs (Vegas, Kansas, etc), and short tracks (Bristol, Martinsville). Try the other types of oval racing also. And the cars moving around on the superspeedways definitely makes it sketchy. Lol. I personally like running the bottom if possible but it's not always possible due to lanes moving and runs you get.

    Should be a 4 slot H pattern in the X-finity only the Next gen cup has fancy things like sequential gears. they even have 5 gears! 5 can you believe it!
    But honestly on a superspeedway you don't really shift so it is not an issue.
    Would also say you need a little more confidence to run the bumper a fair gap between you and the car ahead. You could have gotten that highline a little more speed

    Xfinity cars are H-pattern. Only the newer cup cars are sequential
