The bug I hate the most is when it's night time and your opponents' headlights don't illuminate the track. Their car makes a hole where your headlights cast a shadow and you can't see anything. The closer you are to them, the less you see.
the bug does seem crazy. you can see at 7:55 when both cars are overtaking the shadow created even covers up the lead cars tail lights which makes zero sense
I suspect the track drying thing isn't so much a bug but a side effect of time compression combined with the extreme length of the circuit. IRL wet tyres will throw water aside, but they're trying to compress the equivalent of several hours racing into 40 minutes, so if you're heading out in quali several minutes behind the rest of the pack, you're getting the equivalent of going out at the end of an hour-long session after several laps of everyone else clearing away the water.
That time compression thing completely ruins the entire rain mechanic and makes me avoid rainy events altogether. An incomprehensibly unrealistic quantity of water can and often does accumulate in the span of one lap (on a smaller track). You feel like a Ferrari strategist most of the time even though it literally wasn't possible to make a correct decision because of time compression
Yeah, but it doesn't account for being in the lead where you are only a few tenths ahead of the car behind. Sure, maybe a bit of an advantage, but not quite so much like you see here.
He keeps saying big but I’m pretty sure that’s how driving in wet/snowy conditions works IRL if you go after someone they’ll be more road for you to have traction
The skill set required for this race, was so much more than just being a fast driver and treating the race like a glorified time trial. The intense focus from Lap 3 began with the pit exit, which was like watching lemmings falling off a cliff, for those who were too aggressive with their throttle. I'd say this is the best race PD has ever done. It was the perfect use of all the elements the game has to offer, executed perfectly over 5 laps. I managed a P2 after moving up 3 positions from the top of Dottinger to the finish line. The way I was screaming with joy, you'd have thought I won. 256 pts for all my stress. Great video Steve and well done!
Opposite with me. Qualified 2nd. Finished 7th. I lose focus for literally 1 tenth of a second upon exiting The Carousel. Bit too much of the inside, I'm into the barrier. Race ruined. Great result, man. I wish I could have somehow caught the spin, but focus was key in this race.
Hi, I'm the French player ( GDdesign ), very nice race on your part. I couldn't fight because I was riding with damage throughout the race. But our little duel was fun. See you soon on the track @Super GT
Lets not beat around the bush, this is FIXED weather with dynamic conditions. When every split has the same weather, calling it variable or dynamic is anything but generous.
The track at back drying up kind of makes sense. The wet and inter tyres will have thrown a lot of water so there is less on the track for the next car. I wonder if this happens in real life...
The game exasperates the effect because of the time speed multiplier making each driver move as much water out of the racing line as multiple laps. example: if the time flows 2x as fast, 1 lap will move 2x as much water out of the racing line Presumably the time speed multiplier is in the double digits so being 18th means you get 170 laps of driving before you The only other possibility is that the water moved is multiplied by the tire wear multiplier It's grounds for some experimenting tbh
@@chickenheart3612 I agree, I think the effect is intentional but the way that all of the weather effects are "accelerated" makes it way more apparent from the front to the back of the field.
@@bduddy55555i think it could be fixed by making the effect apply slowly across a number of seconds, like, 45? So that the 10 laps of water are displaced slowly across 45 seconds of actual lap time, as opposed to seemingly instantaneously
These longer races are by far my favorite GT content on this channel. I'm a huge fan of endurance racing so this is right up my alley. Great stuff. PD nailed this race. Mixed conditions and changing light. Fantastic.
I myself love these also, for instance a 10 lap race that takes 20+ min and only to win or lose by a second. I've lost so many races on the last couple corners, where normally that would be upsetting. But with this game it allows me to play again, which I enjoy.
26:04 - completely irrelevant to the racing, but I'm an astronomer / astrophotographer and it's absolutely incredible to see that the night sky is actually exactly how it looks in real life. The constellations are right and they're in the correct orientation and relative position to each other! That's sooo cool :D Right above the lap timer is Pleaides and below it in a > shape is Taurus. You can actually see this in the night sky atm!

Your commentary, along with your amazing driving as well as including clips from the replay was just a masterpiece. Thank you for producing such quality content!
Agree. I feel like if Steve would have given him 1 bump draft at the beginning of the final straight he might have been able to get the momentum to sail past.

It's moments like this that remind me why I put myself through the pain of studying mechanical engineering to become a race engineer. My heart was pounding in the last third of the video. Truly one for the ages. Keep it up!
I don't race GT but those were my thoughts too, somewhat realistic. of course there will always be flaws in how sim physics represent real physics, but it makes a lot of sense if 30 drivers head down the racing line before you it will be somewhat drier for you than the guy in first.
I moved from 15th to 4th. Patience was key, made a few errors, the main one being I qualified on the full wets, hence my start position. One of the best races I’ve done. Well done PD.
The whole last race was so much fun to watch! The last lap was insanely intense and at the final straight around 35:17 I was completely lost... I was like "After 30 mins what the hell is going on?!".So well designed race for this track. I mean no other racing game gives moments like this. Well done Steve.
The small lift you did on last turn before last long straight was the key mate... If you were more 0.2 behind him, your launch to the straight would be at full power in the middle of the corner already and slipstream would push you that little bit that you hadn't. But what a monumental race Steve 💙

This entire style of racing does. I wish we had longer race formats and rain that 1) came with a forecast and 2) actually did something. It’s so weird how they chose to make rain look intense as can be, yet all it adds is like a blanket minor grip reduction multiplier.
This race was something special. That end though, i'm pretty sure that if it happened in real life, it would be an iconic moment marked in history. A pleasure to watch.

Awesome racing and video! Just to clarify: the sun does indeed disappear beyond the horizon due to the rotation of the earth. Of course, due to the tilt on the axis, some areas don’t receive any daylight whatsoever during winter months. Science really is amazing.
I haven't seen night racing in GT7 before, I think, but the lights look kind of weird. Like only the player's beams illuminate the track and others' are much weaker, which causes a very strange effect during drafting, when everything around the car ahead is lit up, and nothing directly in front bar the back end.
Gutted to see that final dramatic battle on those final laps of the. 2nd race. Was incredible watching the skill involved. Amazing work amazing driving. All I can say is GG!
I had three epic races. Finally graduated to DR:A Class so finally unlocked the longer races and extremely competitive driving. Started 2nd Twice from Qualy & Finished P4 each time due to loosing the back end twice in each race on Lap 2 😭😭 Such enjoyable racing.
Anyone else hear “capsulatize” rather than “capitalize” at 4:30? Anyhow great video as always Steve. This was truly one of the best GTWS events PD has put out IMO
Had so much fun doing this race. Qualified 1st but got crashed into lap 1, lost 2 positions then had an absolute nightmare coming out of the pits on lap 2. Put me back down to like 7th or 8th. Thought the win was over but kept on going. Had an absolute charge back up to 2nd but was +7sec away from 1st, still kept pushing to try and put a little bit of pressure on him. Closed it down till I could see him clearly and he makes a mistake just after Brunchen on the final lap. Had a +7 second advantage going down the straight for the final time. Best race I've had all year.
I love your commentary, ever since I started watching your videos your narration stood out. I wish you the best, I believe you can do it. A legend in the making.
I think this race would be more fun then playing and being first/second the entire time. You battled and battled and took a solid 4th. Good race sir o7
I just follow him into the slide haha. man that was an amazing final 2 laps. the drag on the final straight with the duel power slide for the finish. good driving buddy happy new year!
A truly incredible race. Slightly longer races requiring a pit stop and a strategy seem to be the business. Well done Steve for getting that second, but really well done Polyphony for putting action in the rota, rather than just doing laps around the circuit.
Thank youu for the awesome races Steve, I was hoping to get close in the last 2 laps but had damage from lap 3🥲. Anyways, hope to race again soon at Watkins!! pd: huge fan of your channel mate, loved the video!! I am Mike btw ;)
What a race. It really was that good, and I was spectating. Steve, you're right about Polyphony getting it spot on this time. They should use it as a template to improve the quality of daily races.
Steve! I was hoping you’d remember that the Genesis tank-slapped on the final turn the lap before… and thus ease out of it yourself so you’d have the run to the checkered flag! 🏁 Great race. Wish I hadn’t missed it myself. Love the longer ones.
This was by far my favourite online experience since GT Sport. I'm usually not a super fast driver, because I tend to drive a bit too cautious maybe, but in this race, that was exactly what was needed in my particular session. Unfortunately I got spun by another player in Lap 1 and had to come back from last place, but managed 3rd with only a couple of seconds to the guy in 2nd (my first podium) by being consistent after that. It was a ton of fun catching all other drivers and seeing the gap build after.
Amazing race!!!! This was really one of the greatest races ive seen of yours. At the final straight, i think u should’ve stayed a little bit more behind him to get more speed and then eventually take a left side on that straight. That whould get u a p1
21:36 let’s appreciate the fact that they added heat to the brakes!! Like I don’t really think you guys know how crazy of a design feature that is in a game. A racing one at that.
What an amazing race! 👏🏼 best one so far and by far that I have seen from this channel in my opinion. Love the dynamics of the race and all the other variables that come into play. Woah! Amazing race! Kudos to all the racers involved I feel like Porsche could have wrecked you but they were disciplined. What a delight to watch😁👌🏼 if the back end wouldn’t have slipped out on the last lap in the last corner I think it would have been a drag race to the finish😅 unlucky!
Was nice to be in the same race in the first. And nice to see us in same manufacture. Got destroyed in first race. Went p11-p3 in half a lap and then got spun around. Ggs
That's the best race I've ever seen on your channel I think Steve. That was insane, and both of you making the same mistake coming up to the line was picture perfect in a way I guess aha.
i like how in the last corner both you and Kean made the same error with traction twice both sliding on the exit, i was hoping you would remember for the final lap and take the lead but it did make for good entertainment.
The fantastic part is that the weather is it is quite dynamic. Multiple times running race quite different races. Put stops and an unfortunate tire choice can go from P1 to P10+. I made a gamble to stay on softs and the weather passed while in the pits and I won by over minutes as folks spent multiple laps on the worst tires and it lined up for me.
Honestly just the kind of motivation I needed. Sometimes I feel like a two wheeled pancake. But I gotta remember as long as the V8 still revs the race ain’t over

4:14 majestic ahh sky
Anyone else hear “capsulatize” rather than “capitalize” at 4:30? Anyhow great video as always Steve. This was truly one of the best GTWS events PD has put out IMO
22:25 front brakes are nice and toasty, love the color changing when breaking at night
Great drive, Steve. You make it look like you have hundreds of laps experience on this circuit. 😉
What an intense and sensational race that was, amazing stuff!
That "Get in there Lewis" at 10:44 was perfect
I sincerely applaud the respect demonstrated by all in that race, bravo gentleman.
Short(?) time, first time: incredible race, loved the commentary and use of the replay footage. Kudos!
Steve! I was hoping you’d remember that the Genesis tank-slapped on the final turn the lap before… and thus ease out of it yourself so you’d have the run to the checkered flag! 🏁 Great race. Wish I hadn’t missed it myself. Love the longer ones.
It amazes me that you a) managed to save the car in qualifying number 2 and b) still managed to get p1. Awesome driving.
Good to see you again steve!
Have a good year 🎉❤
23:56 that sunset 🤌🏻
This was by far my favourite online experience since GT Sport. I'm usually not a super fast driver, because I tend to drive a bit too cautious maybe, but in this race, that was exactly what was needed in my particular session. Unfortunately I got spun by another player in Lap 1 and had to come back from last place, but managed 3rd with only a couple of seconds to the guy in 2nd (my first podium) by being consistent after that. It was a ton of fun catching all other drivers and seeing the gap build after.
Had me glued to the screen at the end, fantastic race!!
What an amazing race. I wish there was this level of commentary in real races too
Amazing race!!!!
Ggs
Man I just found your channel and I could listen to you commentate motorsports for hours
I definitely enjoyed this opening race, with the rain and dark, made it interesting and fun!
That was quite an incredible race ^^
and well documented here with another fine honest video by Super GT =)
At 7:13 I couldn’t stop thinking of Eminem saying “two trailer park girls go round the outside”😂
A magnificent second race. At 32;39, I said hello to Rebel Tree for you (as you were obviously too busy) - it must have done the trick.
This was beautiful. That Genesis driver was legendary as well, great racing for sure!
I like that you do a voice-over commentary and just drive while you drive. 😂 Great vid, and drive!
Bravo to you and Kean! Bravo! 🤘🏾😈
Excellent racing, great commentary, and funny random babbling! Great job man!
But I gotta remember as long as the V8 still revs the race ain’t over
A Steve video. It is a good day after all
Awesome race. Need to see more dynamic weather races, especially in daily races.
It does my heart good to know that even an A+ driver can spin too, lol. Great racing as always SuprGT. Thank you.
