Utterly charming guy. Johnson saves a lot of potentially dull movies based on his screen presence alone. He may not be as big a star as Arnie was in the 80s, but he's definitely filled the action hero slot left behind by him.
-Do you remember "Earthquake"? -Yeah, I believe it came out in 1974... -It *did*! You can hear how excited Kermode gets when he realizes The Rock knows his film history. Classy.
It's a testament to the guy's charm and charisma that he can star in such atrocities as Tooth Fairy, Doom, Southland Tales, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, The Mummy Returns and Pain & Gain but still be utterly likeable.
Never seen many things he's been in but just watched Screen Junkies when he goes to the trouble of getting himself ordained so he could marry off Nick to his lady. He did not have to do this. Also like the part where Simon and Mark, mostly Simon, bring up the news that Kent had had an earthquake. Not only had Mr Johnson heard about that but then proceeds to go on about the recent events in Tibet. Slightly different outcomes and what starts out as a joke, as anyone would make of a British earthquake, very quickly ends. Good work all round from everyone, enjoyable interview.
Then Kermode bravely sends James King in the next week to trash the movie, along with his performance. On the grounds that Johnson won't dare hit a kid.
What a charmer! Utterly likeable and has carried quite a few films just on his personal charisma alone. We've seen the Jumanjis almost a hundred times but when it comes up on telly it's never switched. All the best to him.
I'm praying the Rock is cast in one of the upcoming Mad Max sequels. He's got just the right amount of Charisma that would play really well in the over-the-topness of it and I think a villain role would be prefect for him.
The interview was not critical enough. Mark was just talking about all the movies he knows while scratching his head pretentiously as he does. Not one question to really expose him.
***** Bigman Tings In my opinion popularity should not excuse bad quality. I didn't want to start a discussion in the comments. I'd like to hear sincere and critical conversations about filmmaking with people that are responsible for those films. That's all. It doesn't have to get insulting. Just two people exchanging their thoughts and opinions.
JustNoise Lets not beat around the bush, as an actor The Rock is on the level of Daniel Day Lewis. I don't ever see him doing any oscar worthy performances. Having said that, I don't think he's bad either. In fact, I think he has a very charismatic screen presence. In the right role he can be an absolute joy to watch. He doesn't bring revulsion like Hayden Christensen.
somanytakennames Yes it's true. He is charismatic. His movies suck anyway. And I would like that to be adressed so he might make better ones in the future. Maybe a promotional interview is not the time nor the place for that. But then again: what is? Hollywood and the film industry consists of people blowing sugar up each other's asses. There needs to be direct criticism of one's work to make way for amelioration. Robert Downey Jr adressed this before. He's also charismatic and not that great an actor. But he still manages to pick projects that have some value. (for which the Oscars are no standart btw)

NoMoreHideTheBall Agreed he has a fantastic personality. Maybe it's a Samoan thing.

Can't help but love the guy.
FINALLY. the. Rock. HAS. come. back. to. the programme!
***** Period! .
The Rock really can sound a lot like Obama
Leo Liu Wow- you're right. He just looks really different.
Leo Liu ....it all makes sense now...The Rock has never been in the same room as Obama o_O...conspiracy!? i think so #illuminati
Not sure we should be putting the Kent and Nepal earthquakes in the same category.

Dwayne is such a cool dude.

Watch Johnson in the Fast and Furious films and compare his screen presence with Vin Diesel, Johnson is leagues above in terms of entertainment.
saw san andreas movie and have to say its absolutely brilliant.action all the way.amazing effects.great cast.i loved it.

Dwayne Johnson if he soften that language a bit he could play Obama hehe

JustNoise It's The Rock, I can let it slide this once.
