Have you ever seen a woman who looks super spicy, but without her makeup, she looks like a wildebeest? For men, the same thing can happen with a beard. A beard can transform an average dude to Jason Mamoa's level IF you don't make any of the mistakes I go over in today's video.
Giving up too soon on growth -- proceed through the awkward stage to assess the situation after 30 days. During that growth period, edge and trim boundaries (neck and cheeks included). It will look thicker and fuller with edging and trimming, and you won't look like a slob.
Not finding proper boundaries -- take a straight implement, then draw an imaginary line from the top of your ear to the corner of your mouth. Shave everything above, and leave everything below. The neck is where most men mess up by trimming too high underneath their chins (into the neck fat meat area). This will make you look like you have a double chin. Watch my demonstration on where to place your finger and shave. I use my Brio and its Zero Blade (shaves skin bald).
Using crappy grooming tools -- upgrade the quality of your grooming tool. The best on the market is the Brio 2.0, which I use on my face and body. Check out how I groom my 10-day stubble with my Brio and micro attachments.
Having nasty mustache hairs -- hairs that curl into your lip need to be trimmed.
Not caring for your beard -- don't just let it grow unattended once it passes the two-week mark. Use a boar's bristle brush twice daily to train your beard and camouflage thinner, patchy areas. Brushing also stimulates blood flow to carry oxygen and nutrients for a healthier beard.
Not giving it proper nutrition -- consume strategic vitamins, minerals, and fatty acids to have your beard look as good as possible. These include Biotin and Omega-3 fatty acids.
Not moisturizing -- avoid having a dry beard and dry skin underneath by using a beard or argan oil daily. Rub it in to make it shine and eliminate skin flakes. If your beard is flaky or itchy, you need to hydrate it. I opt for argan oil as I prefer the smell (it doesn't smell like a lumberjack's nuts).
Having harsh transitions -- if you shave your head and rock a beard, ensure a seamless transition without a big, harsh line. Fade and blend.
Having a full, chubby-looking beard -- if it's fuller on the checks as opposed to transitioning and tapering, you will appear to have a fat face with chubby cheeks. Ensure the beard is a bit longer in the chin area, fading and tapering down to make your face look more angular with a more defined jaw.
Comparing your beard to other beards -- yours is unique with its genetics. Some of us have beards at 12, and some take longer. Don't give up the fight

As a barber I try to keep the cheek line as close to naturally high as rationally possible, the higher the line the more it emphasises the cheekbone and there’s less regrowth, (some people have very hairy cheeks and in that case a “push down” is necessary) also a curved cheek line looks much better than a “blocky” triangle one…just make sure its symmetrical…if you’re doing it yourself, take your time and watch the mirror 🙏🏻💯

I like the video! One thing for guys like me who do have longer, but well-kept beards would be a hot comb to straighten it. With that in mind, you'll probably want to keep it well moisturized but it's so well worth it. I was a member of the short beard club up until two years ago when I let it rip and I can say that with the right products and grooming practices, it can look really nice if you're careful with it.

It definitely looks like a quality product compared to others with the widest selection for adjustments, especially for the close shave. Funny how I knew the best stubble look just from what people said when I was growing it out again. It's definitely right on what I heard. Now it will be super easy to maintain.

Totally agree with not comparing your beard to others! Rock what you got and keep it looking good!
However, I would disagree with using only one type of oil on your beard. The reason is because beard oil is a blend of several oils known as carrier oils. The benefit is that each oil will do different good things for your beard. If you don't like the traditional scents offered for most beard oils, I'd recommend getting an unscented beard oil or even just buying a few different carriers and mixing them in a tinted glass bottle with a dropper top. As long as you're not using any scented oils (peppermint, for example), you'll get great results and you'll still smell like the fragrance you're wearing that day.

I definitely learned my lesson from this. I can grow a goatee and facial hair under my neck, but after growing it out for a month, it gets really long and thick and it gets really annoying. I couldn't stop picking it, twisting on it, and combing it back and forward. I completely shaved it because that was the last straw for me, but I ended up keeping my moustace only.

I disagree that you have to taper your beard to look good. In my opinion, any beard length can look good if it's simply maintained. It doesn't matter if it's a short beard or a long beard. If you don't take care of it, maintain it, it's not going to look good. But you can have any length of beard and it doesn't matter if you taper it or have a nice round beard. If you maintain it, it'll look good.

For myself, there are areas on either side of my throat that wont grow ANY hair at all, so I must shave the neck or else it looks very horrible. If you are one of those men...do what looks best for you.

Once in my lifetime i grew a beard until i had almost a viking look....trimmed it back, tried different things.....to find out that women prefer more the long wavy hair but no beard (stubble goes well) at all (if you have a good jawline).

10 day stubble is indeed a game changer if you’ve been steady keeping a long beard. Women notice it like crazy

How do you keep mustache and beard soft for the ladies. And,
inner and outer nose hairs need to be trimmed too.

1:14 - I dunno if i'd actually go with that "no other option", there is another option.
Yes shaving the neck to jawline is bad, the line is too harsh, you get that double chin look.... But
If you actually have a bit of double chin, a thicker neck, more of an inset jawline, whatever the case may be. Letting the neck beard grow out is also, not an option.
That's entirely the reason to get a trimmer like the brio. Because you can trim the hair on the neck and keep it reasonable length (without shaving it off) and have it transition to longer hair around the jawline.
