Spot on. Been mixing down and mastering House music for over thirty years and round about 160 to 200 hz is pretty much 99% spot on. Great video hombre. A priceless tip for engineers.
I appreciate the exaggerated eq cuts. Many audio engineers fail to realize that most of the stuff they're trying to showcase gets lost in translation, on UA-cam.
Thank you for that comment, I watched many videos and am just rolling my eyes what did that do to the song? that 0.5 db cut did nothing I can hear, and its so annoying.
Cheers. I find when im doing this, that instead of sweeping with a boost i sweep with a cut and decide where to cut based on the perceived clarity boost.
Cool video again! One thing I noticed you do is drag the point of the EQ after finding your frequency but it's hard to stay on that frequency, so I'm using the gain knob with my mouse wheel to reduce the gain and not touch the frequency I found in solo.
depends on your q factor and how thin the range of your cut is. 210 vs 210.5 or 209 or 208 hz cut isnt gonna make a discernable difference unless you're cutting a lot like 6 db+ and with a very narrow q - I wouldn't worry too much about it.
just dropped in late on this video , though these "how to...." video series are great man, very coherent , valuable and straight to the point tips u putting out here ,,,,thank u for sharing ur knowledge ....cheers from Brasil ⚡
Silly question but, instead of sweeping for the problem frequency could you not just do the opposite. Pull down a narrow band and sweep until you find the sweet spot and a "better" sound? Jus curious.
Awesome video exactly what I needed. I've been remixing one of my old mixes with all new upgrades daw and all new plugins. I'm drums were all on one track and sounded muddy since I didn't have separate tracks to work with this really cleaned them up in the mix 😎
Streak is a great guy! Recommended me to MSM who is also incredible and shared a wealth of knowledge... This video is also helpful for productions. Really Helps on even compositions and create space before the mixing phases
I have a question, when he bypasses at about 4:25, the bypass isn't on the FabFilter ProQ3 plugin is it? I can't see an option to bypass anywhere, I'm assuming it's his DAW or another plugin allowing him to bypass. Can anyone let me know if I'm correct, or if there's some hidden drop down menu where the Bypass option is on PRO Q 3 that I can't find. Thanks!
Hey streaky if you want I can make a UA-cam video on how To set a compressor up to duck your voice track from your desktop audio or audio interface is super simple and requires OBS studio
Ideally yes, you may benefit from a balance change in mixing and stereo limiting etc when mastering but yes if you like the sound then that’s good enough...hopefully everybody else will like it too 👍
not necessary, that's like saying if you recruit the perfect right balance of players for your basketball team then you don't need a coach to organize everything in the end
@@proverbalizer If the tracks aren't "muddy" when you recorded them, there's NOTHING to fix.I was taught how to record by the late Bud Hobgood (James Brown's producer) at King Records in Cincinnati YEARS AGO. If an individual track doesn't sound the way you want it to,you DO IT OVER. All "effects" were "printed" when you originally recorded the track. Then when you mix,you only need to concentrate on volume and placement of each track. It's not that difficult.
@@NURREDIN ok no problem, then just skip the whole mixing mastering process if you want. whatever works for you. the only rule to music is that if it sounds good it's all good
Thank u Streaky! Very curious as to how u record your tutorial audio while showing the visual of your session. I’m assuming you have 2 separate systems recording simultaneously?
Next video, keeping the headphones plugged in and the mic on the table lmao. For a split second I think how Streaky could get a little more streamlined and paced well in his videos, then I realize I love just seeing Streaky be himself. Keep knocking those mics over. Also thanks for always taking the time to share so much of your audio experience!!!!!
hello, firstly thanks for these tutorials. have liked and subscribed. great insight and punchy/to the point. I am noob, would you recommend I apply this technique to just my bass or when Im mastering?
Now maybe it's on your other vids, but I miss the HP degradation, for me it's still sound muddy. And it misses sparkling highs. Just my opinion. But this is a first step I think?
Great stff Streaky appreciate your time. I'm doing some tracking on open reel just lately through outboard gear. Then mastering through outboard also. My question is, I can get my masters to industry volume in the box and say write that wave file to a cd, but this is the question. What do I need to do to realtime write to cd or dat or anything and get the ultimate volume obviously without clipping the master. Or is it that the master hardware recorder can clip like the stereo buss like in the daw when shoved with a limiter? Appreciate anything you can input to me Streaky on my out of the box mastering, maybe a video on this subject when you have the time, thankyou Jon

Guilty of that in the past 👍

The best way to describe muddy is what music sounds like OUTSIDE the bar. Everybody knows that sound.
Your videos, besides being great lessons, are the best advert for Pro-Q 3
Guys hit the damn like button. This is free knowledge, its the least you can do.
Thx 🙏
Cheers. I find when im doing this, that instead of sweeping with a boost i sweep with a cut and decide where to cut based on the perceived clarity boost.
I do this too, easier on the ears lol
Just tried it on one of my afro beats and i gotta say it works great.
Thank you
Man I just found you recently, and I am so thrilled. You are kick ass, man. Love your style and info. Awesome!
That was a unique mic drop Streaky! Loving these tips cheers!
Another great video 👍
Hilarious turn around at the end! 😂🤣 Thanks, as always, for the content!
Another Great video!! any chance you can make a video of how you use iZotope RX? It looks like you use it as your DAW when mastering?
No just for these videos, I use it to clean up stuff etc...I use protocols for mastering

Another great video, thanks. Always blows my mind a bit when cutting a frequency makes it sound louder/better.
hello streaky thank u for sharing your acknowledgment with us
waves f6 does all that plus envelope settings on dynamics. check it out

🤣🤣🤣you dropping the mic accidentally after dropping this mega tip is the funniest thing I’ve seen in a long time. Thanks Streaky
Oh man you solved my track today, thanks!!
I was getting crazy with that muddy sound!!
is there a similar eq feature where you can click the little "headphones' part and isolate the boosted part on Reaper?
just dropped in late on this video , though these "how to...." video series are great man, very coherent , valuable and straight to the point tips u putting out here ,,,,thank u for sharing ur knowledge ....cheers from Brasil ⚡
newbie here, is it not better to fix the mud on the individual tracks rather than an eq on the whole track? why or why not?
Waves F6 dynamic EQ is also great.
Thanks! You have a new subscriber from Italy!
love the mic drop at the end
Since I listen and learn from him my music is getting better and better. Thanks to teach my skills.😊
Wish you a long healthy life.
Great tips!
Not only a pro-advice but also well-explained. I hit like with no regret. Keep up!
Love the mic drop.

This channels gonna blow up up!!! gold content and tips!!! Many thanks, keep up the great work!!
Why did you not do a Low Cut below 30hz? There is a lot of mud there too and you can't really hear that info.
Would you recommend using this technique in mixing, mastering or both?
Excellent as usual
Streak is a great guy! Recommended me to MSM who is also incredible and shared a wealth of knowledge... This video is also helpful for productions. Really Helps on even compositions and create space before the mixing phases
Streaky is on Fire :) X
clearly need to invest in some fabfilter plugins!
Thanks Streaky, excellent!
This just fixed my muddy low sounds. Thanks :)
Great video!! Thank you!!
Very cool !!! Could you made a freaking video about youtube algorithm / compression. Basically how to mix and master for you tube ?
