  • I took the '86 ATC 250R and '88 Fourtrax 250R to the Imperial Sand Dunes in Glamis, California.
    I've waited my whole life to get an old ATC and TRX 250R into the high dunes. I don't pretend to be on the riding level of the experts of Glamis, but man, we sure had fun. We rode deep into the high dunes for some amazing rides up the big walls and deep bowls. We also photographed a bunch of cool vehicles along the way.
    Special thanks to everyone in the Invasion crew. I hope you all enjoy watching this video as much as I enjoyed making it!

    I used to cut the reed stop's off and put in a new set of boysen reed's. One had a high volume water pump.

    What an awesome video! Great storytelling, great still photos and action video clips, very well done! I'm from Tucson, my family went to Buttercup in Yuma every year for Easter from 1982 until about 1989. As a kid I started on a Honda ATC 110, quickly moved up to the ATC 200s that my mom bought new in 1985, to the 200x that my brother and uncle had and later to the 250r that my brother and uncle got. Later in life I also had my own 200x, 350x and xr600 dirt bike. I ended up crashing the 200x because I blacked out from dehydration while I was going 45-50 MPH, veered off the trail and hit a tree head on which broke four vertebrae in my neck, pinched my spinal cord and left me paralyzed from the chest down. I miss riding so much and I'm disappointed in myself that I didn't go back to the sand dunes as an adult! We stopped going to the sand dunes and started going to Rocky Point instead. There's one sand dune in rocky point that's great but it's not the same experience as Buttercup or Glamis, that's for sure! Anyways, thanks for the awesome video!

      @@RetroRiders_250R_Magazine No problem! I thought you were from Tucson, I heard your mention of it in the video. That's funny, I rode the 1985 200S that my mom bought brand new up and down the Rillito river, all the way to shit creek. LOL! I also used to ride my 1971 Honda SL 350 enduro that I bought for $50.00 up and down the Rillito river... That's funny, definitely a small world! I got paralyzed out off of Tangerine road on the trail that we always called "Box Canyon" that dead ended in the Tortalita mountains, there was remnants of an old house and a concrete pool all the way at the end. It was always my favorite place until it turned into a housing development... Pisses me off! Thanks again for the great video, I appreciate it!

      @@RetroRiders_250R_Magazine That's awesome, man! I was at the other end of town, riding in the Rillito from La Cholla all the way past I-10 to the Santa Cruz river and then down the Santa Cruz for miles! We would also go the other way in the Rillito, heading east, going at least to 1st avenue. I used to take my XR600R out to Kolb and Los Reales, just north of the IBM plant when it was still there. Such great memories! I rode that old 1971 SL 350 enduro in the Rillito more than the ATC's, it was a blast! I was very impressed with that bike, especially because I only paid $50.00 for it, I had some really good races with my brother's 1986 ATC 250r that he bought brand new! I sure miss those days, that's for sure!

    • @RetroRiders_250R_Magazine
      @RetroRiders_250R_Magazine  3 роки тому +1

      Not sure where you live, but...You can find a ATC or TRX 250R if you just watch some of the sales pages on social media platforms. They aren't super common, but they are out there. I've got several friends with 350X's. I'm impressed with them. It's a different type of power and it depends how you ride them but I will say that when the hills get REALLY steep, like CHOKE Cherry, the 250R shines and the 350 hits its absolute limits.

      The TRX has 20x10.00 - 8 and they have 8 paddles. I really like them because they have the right amount of spin, grip and slide that I'm looking for. Those tires on the back of the ATC will bite like crazy but they have almost no spin, which makes certain moves harder. Thanks for watching!
