Holden Commodore VF SSV | LS Power Recipes & Modifications: L77 to LS7 - We approach 600+rwkw
Вставка
- Опубліковано 12 сер 2024
- In this episode we show you how to massively increase the power in your VF SSV Redline Holden Commodore. We start with the stock L77 6.0L engine with standard modification including OTR, exhaust, headers and tune. We then step up to the Harrop 2300 supercharger with custom tune, new injectors and increased boost to step up to 400rwkw. Next, we go all out and upgrade the engine to a 7 litre LS7 427, Harrop 2650 supercharger, Brian Tooley Stage 4 custom camshaft, bigger exhaust to net an initial power uplift of 570+rwkw with our run-in tune.
Finally, we are now investigating a new fuel system to net an estimated 600-650+rwkw.

This channel is underrated and undersubbed come on youtube give this man some more viewers. Been loving these VF videos mate this car is one hell of a beast. I
Thanks mate! Tell all your mates about it!
Love you're shed m8. Even the falcon in the back looks mint. I bought one of the last 2017 SSV Redline Manuel Ute's in spit fire green. I gave it to Walkenshaw and got the W407 pack. I love the punch of the Ls3 down low lol. I got just under 330rwk witch is more than enough fun for me in a light ass ute lol. After watching you're vids m8 thought about getting a Ls7 until I seen the price. The cheapest one I seen was 23 grand lol the misses wold kill me. I just found you're channel m8 great content you deserve more subs keep it going champion 🇦🇺🤙🤘🤘
Gday mate, have always loved the spit fire green vfs. Thanks for watching our channel and your comments! The LS7 is very exotic and we were very lucky to secure it. Keep watching, some really cool vids coming very soon!
That FPV in the background looks awesome!
Thanks mate, that is Frankie's daily. Sitting on coilovers and 20" Simmons. We do a deeper review on the FPV in one of our other videos if you are interested. Thanks for watching our channel and will let Frankie know you like the FPV! He will be happy!
Subscribed mate! You have blown me away with what you have done to the car. You have tripled the power well done.
Thanks mate for your support and sub. Lots of cool content coming soon as well. Check out some of the driving vids of the LS7 on full song!
Holy Mackerel, massive gains.
G'day Tom, yes we are very happy with those gains. It sure is a handful now!
Unreal that you tracked down a fresh w427 motor mate ! Love the progress so far keep the good content coming !

Love the content, keep it up 👍🏼
Thanks mate! Hope you enjoy our latest vid. Leave a comment on it and have a chance to win our first giveaway garage prize!
Thanks for another great video. I have an SSV Redline roughly the same age and have put a stage 1 cam in, OTR, ceramic headers and a 3" hurrican exhaust. Hi Torque on the Goldie have tuned it to 430HP at the wheels. Love driving it and it sounds pretty good too. I might put on a supercharger but being in my mid 60's, I don't know if I trust myself. lol Keep up the good work.
Awesome video and great effort you have put in to explain all the details. Love your car mate. A genuine car enthusiast. I have an l77 with otr cai, exhaust and tune. Has 275kw at the wheels. Would love to know what to do next to up the power and performance. Excellent and very informative presentation, keep it up.
Good video I have an LS Ute now as it is as well as my VP5 L VT one
Whoa Huge Power and Great Segment 😍
Thanks mate, yes a bit more than the stock 270 engine kilowatt output from the original L77!!
Thanks for sharing your absolute gorgeous build with us mate you are one lucky man I shouldn't say Lucky because youve worked your arse off to have the nicer things in life that your attracted too and good on ya brother you deserve every one of them 427 cubic inches bro..but I must say you did have abit of luck picking that w427 create up 😉 does it have the dry sump or did walkinshaw do that to the ls7 them sefls ?? Looking forward to hearing back from you brother and can't wait for more content on the beast
G'day mate and thanks for watching the channel. The W427 did have the dry sump as part of the crate set up but we converted it to a wet sump. It is now fitted with crank scraper, windage tray, high volume pick up etc..
Excellent video
Thanks Mike, glad you liked it!
Impressive mate
Thanks mate!
Nice video
Keep up the great work and i am just wondering as far as the brake upgrade you did on the redline, any reason why you did not put the silver brembo calipers with the larger 360mm rotors on the back, especially if your going to track the car, meaning is it drag or circuit racing and would love to see any footage of when your track the car either drags or circt stuff, really nice upgrades by the way and is it running on E85 or 98 RON fuel tune?
Hey mate love your vids. Are Canberra based. i noted GENTECH
G'day, yes Gentech are Canberra based.
Great Vid Fred. and Power Gain My 6.2 Stock is 430 Bhp But Getting Heads Cam and Remap in Uk Cheers Mate
G'day Peter, let us know how the heads and cam upgrade goes! Really wakes these engines up.
@@ClunieGarage Cars in Work/Shop But -10 and Snow .Keep U Posted M8
Great video, thanks for shearing, would love to know if you end up building up bottom end, what sort of injectors you running and what boost :) car looks mint
Gday, we are stock LS7 bottom end, 1000cc injectors on 98 and only 10psi at this stage. Thanks for watching!
Gday Daily Boosted, please check out our latest video on our garage banners and leave a comment so you can be in the running for our first giveaway!
Hey mate, love the car! Just a quick question, when you swapped out the engine did you have to take it down to the inspection pits at hume, or did you just have till fill out some paper work to register the new engine vin.
G'day mate, actually we didn't do either and we have taken the car off the road as a dedicated race car now anyways.
For the money the Walkinshaw 310kw upgrade sounds very disappointing IMO
G'day mate, the price of the 310 package is expensive for what you get and the power uplift. Much better off buying the OTR, headers and exhaust seperately and getting a custom tune.
So did you slap on the 2300 super charger without any cam upgrades? Awesome car by the way!
Thanks mate. Yes, slapped on the 2300 with no other internal mods. Just bigger injectors and tune. The car has transformed a bit since this episode. Check out the channel for the latest updates.
Jesus Christ mate. I'm very impressed.
Thanks mate! Glad you enjoyed it!
Great vid guys! Just got my L77 swapped LX Torana running, and it was interesting to see you go supercharged before a Cam and DOD delete. With a low KM motor (less than 20k), would you do the same again with confidence?
Gday Brad, awesome a LS swap in a LX, love it. I guess the direction you go in for power gains all depends on your objectives and budget. I would go supercharged again on a 6L platform because of the size of the power uplift and torque. The big thing however is if you have afm hardware as you have pointed out. Next time I would go ls7 lifters, DoD delete and then probably a cam at the same time. What sort of usage will your LX get?
Clunie Garage 100% street car. Will probably go DOD delete and cam first.
Great idea. Our local tune shop has lots of experience and knowledge of what cams work well with the L77. Let me know if you want some info or data points.
I've been half toying with the idea of ripping the 6 out of my ve & dropping an 8 in 🤔
Sounds good in theory but I would definitely recommend starting with a V8 platform. Better box, diff, brakes as well!
gday mate love the video ive got a vf with a l77 motor has cam upgrade dod delete and upgraded lifters ,exhaust and otr, was wondering if i go the harrop supercharger would it be worth getting the 2650 or the 2300 would i need to change any thing else ?
G'day mate, glad you like it! I would highly recommend the 2650. Flows more air, better intercooler design and you dont need as much boost. You will need bigger injectors and will need to consider a fuel system uograde down the track as well.
@@ClunieGarage cheers for the reply legend, 2650 definitely on the cards for 2021 ...just need to butter up the minister for war and finance and should be good to go!
Woah, what mid sections are you missing? I've got a l77 with a full exhaust and thinking of cutting out the resonators or cats.
That Clunie is a beast with a super charger.
Gday Clayton, there is a large centre muffler that you can delete.
Gday Clayton, check out latest vid and leave a comment so you can be in the running for the giveaway!
How much boost are you running? How are you getting your heat out of the supercharger? Maybe invest in a interchiller? And put more boost into it and pull tuning makes it more fun FREE HP!!!
G'day Brendon, we are only running 10 psi with standard harrop intercooler from 2650 assembly. We might look at putting more boost later but we are already running 11:1 pistons with the LS7 so we are limited on how much boost we can run. Thanks for watching mate.
Hey mate,
Awesome beast you built,
What fuel setup are you running.
I've put a crate lsa into my E3 with some work done and figure is 542rwkw on a stock ZL1 pump unfortunately my pump is slowly dying getting to hot.
Cheers
G'day Steve, thanks for the comment and for checking out our channel. We have also run out of steam on the stock fuel pump as well and we are investigating upgrade options right now. Our local tune shop at Gentech has trialled several upgraded systems and there is a new one available which is very promising. Will get more details for you and we will do our fuel system in new calendar year.
@@ClunieGarage Thanks mate, much appreciated looking forward to the update 👍🏻
Would you recommend the L77 over the L98? I’m looking at hail damage cars and was wondering what the better option would be.
Gday, the L77 engines will likely have fewer kms on them as they are newer but they have the DoD lifters. See if you can find a low km L98 if you have the choice. We experienced excellent gains with simple mods on our VE SS track ute.
naturally aspirated and it's called an OTR over the radiator
Gday Fred, I’ve recently purchased my first SS. I got an auto VE redline. What would I be looking at price-wise to supercharge it with the 2650, removing DoD, camshaft, exhaust etc.? And what kind of power could it get up to with all that? Love the vids, learning plenty. Cheers Marcel
(It’s got the L77)
G'day Marcel, congrats on your new purchase and securing part of Australian automotive history!! Based on the mods you have listed, you are probably looking at about $20k all up depending on bits and pieces which sounds like a lot I know. This sort of combo with a fuel system and a tuner that knows what they are doing should easily net you 550rwkw on 98 ron.
@@ClunieGarage fantastic, I expected something around that. Now I just need to convince the mrs haha. Cheers Fred
No worries and let us know how you go with it. Fred.
Thanks for the info mate . Just wondering is it still a road car or a racing car ? Also how much you spent in total ? For I have a V.E SS and I wanna keep it in good Nick . Thank you all the best
G'day mate, it is now a dedicated track car. Have spent a lot to date. Too much in fact 😜
@@ClunieGarage good day mate . Just wondering what’s the best way of restoring my 2009 SS engine wise . Just wanna know where I start pls .Thanks for replying
2 months later......shit i shouldnt have done that.Grown a mullet, did skids like a typical burnout would do and pushed rods through my block like a stuffed porcupine.
Oh dear, let Frankie and me know if you need help with a rebuild 🙂
I have been looking into the ls7 7L how would you go about that from Ur experience i have a the moment L98 ve ss
G'day mate, if you are thinking about the LS7, the best route is try and pick up a crate engine. I don't think there are any more W427 warranty engines lying around like I bought. I think Eagle and Holmart stock them. It is a beautiful engine, lots of exotic components and race pedigree. What are your goals for the VE SS and intended usage?
That's a lot of money to spend just to get 600rwkw! Seriously though how much total including dyno times and labour was it to get the 600 ? I can't help but think that a built l77 with the first blower would have made same power for half the price. Don't get me wrong I'd I had a spare 25k to piss away on bragging rights I would lol
Gday, this build has occurred over the last 5 years and we havent really tracked labour and dyno times. The current combo has actually been built with a plan to exceed 700rwkw with e85, new fuel system and blower/tb/intake mods we have planned. I dont like putting that number out there however as there are a lot of keyboard haters that jump on the opportunity to talk about happy dynos etc.. The big thing driving our decision to go LS7 was uniqueness, torque and the opportunity to own a 427 was too good to pass up! Thanks heaps for all your positive comments and interest in the channel. Lots more horsepower coming in vids soon!
Are you in Adelaide?
G'day mate, no we are located in Canberra, ACT.
I think salt is good for those blood stains in the hi vis
G'day Bush, haha, not blood, its spray can foam residue from sealing the garage floor.
Any dragy or vbox times?
G'day mate, no there isn't a drag strip near us unfortunately. We should have some circuit lap times soon though once we are allowed to travel to the track.
Hey Clunie is it worth doing the PCV Delete mod?
G'day mate, we recommend fitting a catch can to your PCV. I haven't seen a delete mod in person and we have fitted catch cans to all our LS builds.
@@ClunieGarage Cheers mate. If you want search up L77 PCV Delete mod by Aidoz Garage for reference. But with that being said I will take your advice and go with the catchcan
Is that street legal in your state?
Did you get it mod plated and if so, any dramas with emmisions or noise?
G'day mate, yes the car was legal when we drove it. It is now a dedicated track car ao we don't have it registered anymore.
I find that strange that you can run forced induction legally. I'm doing it at the moment. I had to put the LS in the bin an go back to a V6 to use a turbo.
Max displacement for a 2300kg vehicle is only around 4.3 litre with forced induction.
Any updates on this car mate? Power? Etc etc
G'day mate, about to unveil some major updates. Stay tuned, we have a new fuel system fitted, 110mm throttle body and major tune. Keep an eye out on the channel over the next few weeks.
@@ClunieGarage sweet!
Looking to supercharge my l76
Gday Michael, great idea! Are you looking to do a freshen up at the same time? Probably a good idea to remove the DoD, lifters and chuck a cam in it - especially if your L76 has done a few kms. What sort of supercharger are you considering? I have had experience with the 2300 and 2650 Harrop FDFI units if you are interested. Fred
I found this strange at how low of horsepower these have.. I have a 2012 Chevy caprice 6.0 ppv with 355-375 hp.. could be because it was for police but other than that I like this one more cuz of the paint job haha
Glad you like it. I think the 6.0 engines in the Chevy SS and VF Commodore have the same hp output across the L77 and LS3 engine variations.
And look at how much money has to be spent on the LS engine to get those numbers compared to a barra engine. No comparison, the barra is the best inline six cylinder engine ever made that eats these LS engines for breakfast for half the amount of money!
G'day Badger, barras sure put out some impressive numbers and are pretty awesome on the drag strip. We are track circuit racers though and love our LS V8s.
How much is Ls7
Unfortunately the crate engines have been discontinued in 2022. Only option now is to build one --> www.lsxperformanceparts.com.au/dart-427ci-ls7-stroker-engine-long-motor-blueprinted/
310kw= how much in hp???......415hp
G'day Trent, yes about that according to the Google calculator!
You should had looked at L77 with only ls9 head gaskets larger head studs and e85 fuel 850 hp bro with only them simple mods e85 is 85% ethanol from 2011 l77 had active fuel flux sensor and 177 has compression ratio magic for ethanol shouldn't wasted so much coin when only 3 mods head gaskets and head studs 85 fuel what you notice in America Chevrolet they continue the l77 till 2017 because the ethanol factor they didn't change to LSA V8 funny that fact how we Aussies PPV got LSA I have same as yours 2015 L77 6l v8 but have X police version from Brunswick HWP she Peter Brock perfect blue i don't use e85 much it really to tempting to fry tyres e10 she had 63k on her when I got it keep it stock have changed nothing but rims 130k on clock never miss a beat yet I putting her away value in future be crazy only increase last few years if you like a link to fact hit me up K
