📌 Hey everyone, we read your comments and it's gotten way out of hand.
My video went viral on Facebook facebook.com/MelanieGuintuOfficial and with that, comes a variety of misinterpretations fb.watch/rxtREThbL2/
This is all a misunderstanding and it’s a shame that one video can stand out of all the hundreds of positive videos.
People always leave a negative review when something bad happens but rarely leave a positive review when something good happens so the reviews tend to be skewed.
Let's stop the hate, cyber-bullying and keyboard warriors.
To be clear, we just arrived in Malaysia at Kuala Lumpur International Airport and this was our first encounter outside of the airport.
The Grab driver did not say hello to us, then hit my partner's head with the trunk without apologizing, and then slammed the door with our bag straps out. How would you feel?
Not once did I show a bad attitude. In fact, we stayed smiling and I continued to say how beautiful Kuala Lumpur was. But sadly, no one noticed that. Watch the video again with an open mind so you can really see what happened.
Also there's a huge misunderstanding: There is no long queue line waiting behind us. It's a pick up and drop off parking area. There is another lane which is the actual main road and it’s empty. There is no traffic.
The car that was honking was trying to get the attention of their passenger, because it’s a passenger pick up area. No one was honking at us.
As travelers, we understand that first impressions right out of the airport especially with taxi drivers aren’t a good representation of a country. But wow, the nasty comments got way out of hand and to be honest, it didn’t deserve it. No one deserves it and we hope not everyone is like this.
If you watch this whole video, we try to stay positive and enjoy the beauty of Kuala Lumpur. No one really credited that.
We know we're good people and we hope that everyone can move on with their day.
We will continue to search for the kindness of locals and will post the usual positive travel content moving forward ❤

Malaysia is multicultural and multi religions country beside Malay as native and aborigines and also indigenous people in Borneo many people around the world immigrated to this land included Chinese, Indians, Arabs and Europeans. Malaysia also was colonised for 400 years by Portuguese, Dutch then British hence the diverse society. British brought many labours from India and China to work in rubber estates and tin mining. 60% of Malaysians are Malays and indigenous 25% Chinese, 11% Indians and 4% foreign workers and expats. Malaysia is also popular destination for Koreans, Japanese and retired Europeans. There are nearly 4 millions foreign workers from Bangladesh, Nepal, Indonesia, Pakistan, Vietnam etc for low skills work. Malaysia is also one of top 10 destination for international students..

Malaysia is so multi-cultural it makes it so unique and beautiful that way!! Oh woow I love the history lesson about why there are so many Chinese and Indians and Arabs in Malaysia!! That makes me even more interested in Malaysia and it's rich culture thank you for teaching me that!!

The meal you ate was our national dish called ‘nasi lemak’ where they have many versions of it. Nasi is Malay word means Rice and Lemak is mean Creamy due to rice cook with coconut milk. However the basic one is coconut rice infused with fragrance pandan leaf, fried anchovies and peanut, sambal sauce, cucumber. Then you can add some protein eg fried chicken or chicken and beef rendang, squid, etc. It’s a Malay dish however other ethnicities have their own version of fusion of nasi lemak. It used to be served for breakfast but now you can have it all the time for lunch or dinner. Even McDonald and KFC also serve their own version of nasi lemak.

Hi Hafiz! Nasi Lemak is my new favorite!!! Oh wow I did not know that Nasi Lemak means "creamy rice"! That makes it sound even more delicious! I did not know that there are different versions of Nasi Lemak! Oh wow it's a breakfast food? I ate Nasi Lemak for dinner hahah. OMG I have to try Nasi Lemak at McDonalds and KFC thank you!!! 🤩

@@MelanieGuintu You’re welcome and Selamat Datang ke Malaysia! :). Btw you supposed to mix all of it while eating nasi lemak, anchovies and peanut are not side snack but it’s part of the dish, but be careful as some version of sambal sauces can be a bit spicier than others, so just mix it a bit and try it first before mix it altogether. Other Malaysian popular dishes are Nasi Kerabu with mixed veggies, varieties of Laksa, Char Kuey Teow (similar to Pad Thai but different taste), Satay (Sate), and Roti Canai (pronounced as Roti Chanay) Malaysian flatbread which has been voted as the best bread in the world in 2023 by Taste Atlas and the 2nd best dish among 100 most popular dishes in the world for 2023/24, and many other varieties of foods, desserts and drinks.

Penangite here... that definitely looks authentic, however, it will never be the same as what's on the streets here. So hopefully you guys come here to Penang, if you want true authenticity.
Lorong Seratus Tahun is a real road here in Penang means "100 year old lane", Famous for their Curry Noodles here. But if you don't like spicy, I wouldn't recommend it. 😅
Anyway, that driver gives off gangster vibes, lol.

I travel to Malaysia often and have found bringing cash to change is the best when travelling there (just be careful!). When you exchange your currency, stay away from money changers in touristy areas (airports, local attractions), and shop around before you choose a money changer. Different malls around the city often have multiple money changers and they generally compete to give you the best rate. It's generally not a massive difference depending on how much you exchange, but getting a little extra ringgit could pay for another meal or two during your stay.

Penang (or Pulau Pinang) is one of the 14 state of Malaysia(Malaysia is a Federation of States type of nation) . The food is said to be originated from the state. Most of the restaurant workers in KL now are not local Malaysian. they came from Indonesian, Phiiliphines, Myanmar ,Vietnam, Laos and even from South Asian and west asian. 24:03 basically , what the real history want to tell you is, The British colonials brought the Chinese from China to Malaysia (Malaya That time) to save them from the persecution of the China Emperor during Opium War in 19th century because they collaborated with the British againts their own emperor. The native Malays those days sees the British as colonials and dont want to work with them to plunder the wealth of the nation back to London. Most of the native malays were the one who fought the British for independence . While you in Malaysia, you will keep hearing the Malaysian Chinese calling the Malays as lazy.
