    A lot of the crap that came up would have been from what was trapped in the remnants of the crack. I always run a slitting disc down through the crack to try clear it out, and then do a pass just to burn any left over crud out before i start adding filler, that bit of extra prep makes life so much easier and neater. Other than that, fantastic vid bud 👍👍

    The best repair iv ever seen
    This guy takes pride in his work and definitely went above and beyond to make the rim appear that it was never repaired at all and it exactly appears that way. Thank you sir for taking time to show us your work

      But if you take the all weld off chances are it will break again very easily .

    My welded rear alloy wheel (unbeknownst to me before buying the car) imploded at 60mph.
    A tire shop said the welding was done poorly and the only option for now is to weld it back again since no one is selling the same wheel model anywhere.
    I just hope they do better job at it, since it's pretty scary when a wheel cracks during a drive..

    Best finish I've seen , I prefer the drill and cut method but each to their own , looks super nice and I doubt it would affect the balance if at all

    You should really wear a dust mask and use tig gloves though.

    Solid video but definitely consider using alcohol as a lubricant and de-clogger on your die grinder. We used to use wax and always had problems with impurities but now we are using alcohol we have found the problem drastically reduced

    Hi Tom!
    thanks for an amazing video! Very helpful and knowledgeable!
    What did you use to put the groove in the wheel? With the wax? I couldn’t make out the name of the grinder, sorry this is my first rodeo.
    Oh is it better to put a point on the tungsten or not? Thanks

    • @Metal_shaper_tom
      @Metal_shaper_tom  2 роки тому +2

      Hi 👋 we use a tungsten carbide burr and a wax called trendi wax and that stops them clogging up. The grinder is a die grinder. Don’t put a sharp point on when welding Ali you only sharpen it for steel 👍 hope this helps

    • @Metal_shaper_tom

      You would be better off using alcohol. Stops the clog and doesn’t leave a residue which can contaminate the weld

    I have the same problem on speedline wheel. I like the factory finish after repair !!! Its line never happened.
    But is this repair strong enough or it will crack again to the same spot?

    • @Metal_shaper_tom
      @Metal_shaper_tom  2 роки тому +2

      Hi 👋 I personally think this repair is strong enough to last. It hasn’t cracked again and it’s been at lest 6 months since I repaired it. Thanks 👨‍🏭
