    Great video! I’ve been practicing my aluminum welds for a few weeks now, and this seems like a great service to offer when I start my business!

    Good video.. Before DPI testing the use of mechanical cleaning should be minimal. By using that die grinder, especially with softer metals like aluminium you have the possibility of closing up any shallower defects.

      Oh have the mighty have fallen.
      Only commercials and shitty nicknames (Dr Weld, Sawbladehead, etc) around here these days.
      There are still some talented guys on this channel, but the last crew is a tough act to follow.

      And before him, the plonker that called himself "mr tig".
      Called himself that, yet couldnt welld any more than an inch or so in the flat position.😂
      Was he just some sort of salesman or something? Despite being labelled as a "world renowned welding expert" which always used to make me chuckle 😄😄

    I do 4 or 5 of these a week I just use a 4.5" sander with a 36 grit to clean the junk, drill a hole at the bottom of the crack then take a 6mm slice out of the rim and fill from both sides 40 minutes start to finish

    During some of the welding, the puddle looked like it was contaminated. Is this just what happens when you work with a used part like this?

    I've been welding wheels for quite some time and this doesn't look like a good job. Putting so much material just to make sure you are good to go? It will cause warping and stress inside the walls. And the puddle look messy most of the time.

    ER5356 contains about 5% Magnesium, and NOT what is said incorrectly in this video. Yes google it OR look on any datasheet covering ER5356.

    What about flow formed wheels a356 to be specific. I have a 1 inch crack on the inside lip of my wheel. I don’t have a tig welder but I could buy one could I do it with cheap one from Amazon ? What machine materials and filler would you advise me to use ?

    I have ferrada cast aluminum wheels that cracked on the spoke.
    And ferrada has sent me more than one replacement. Can this weld be applied to that? Because I've had it welded 3 times and it failed

      @@Paladin_of_Justice drill it each side of the crack then put a prep in it personally I don't really pre heat it I run back and forth over the crack with the torch to heat it locally with the cleaning setting quite low (68 on a Miller) before adding filler rod

    The key to tig welding aluminum is a weld cap…. Turn it sideways and pull it over your ears. That’s 99% of the battle. The other one percent is a perfectly round tungsten ball.

  • @bayoutrapper
    @bayoutrapper Рік тому +3

    Dude, what's with all the dipping the tungsten, pulling the wire out of the argo? "A grinder and paint can make a welder what he ain't". LoL. No disrespect intended, but maybe you should practice more than 3 beads before a video. I been welding for over 35 years btw. Thanks I will say you did make a good repair, if it held air pressure. And you did teach the proper steps to a good repair. God bless.

    • @austinhargett5792
      @austinhargett5792 Рік тому +6

    • @bayoutrapper
      @bayoutrapper Рік тому +2

      @@austinhargett5792 Yes sir you did, as I said before, IF, it held pressure. I merely intended encourging criticism, not negative. Welding is a hard skill to learn to do properly. And, it's an art, like playing music, it takes alot of practice, and you have to constantly keep practicing to keep up that skill. I've been doing it for over 35 years and I still make mistakes sometimes. God bless you sir.

  • @jasonbirch1182
    @jasonbirch1182 Рік тому +2

    Ok. So what happened to welding cast aluminum? Also, I know it's a drift wheel and mine are beat up too, but that's a lot of heat and material to pull the wheel out of round. I've got some repaired wheels from people that are really wacked out. That being said I've got a huge crack in a cast wheel, which is why I watched this. You didn't weld cast anything and that's what the title is. Thanks for the tips on welding a forged wheel. 🤷
