    Appreciate the video brother. I own a mobile tire business and have been studying and taking welding courses for repairing cracks. I see someone already answered regarding MIG, that’s what I’m more than likely going to use but all of the videos I’m seeing is TIG. Go figure, but exceptional work my friend. ✊🏾

    Great video. I repair a lot of wheels for garages, i do a couple of little things differently, but its nice to see someone doing the job right and knowing what they're doing. Thank you.

    A nice job at last on this platform. Correct information, correct filler and correct preparation and execution. Scary how many amateurs are posting up wheel repairs. Nothing to add other than one tip if you don't mind. I always file out the slit to remove the crap from the cutting disc that gets embedded.

      A file is a good idea. I usually hit it with the wore wheel but sometimes It might still be a little dirty. Thanks!

    You guys / girls in this industry especially repair shops are making a killing in my area. You guys will be eating like kings with the new EV hype - heavy cars and rims always bending!! If I had this skill man I would market to Tesla especially and have a cheap price!!!

    Do alloys change a lot rim to rim
    Do you have to worry about expansion coefficients, or not mixing
    Or any hazards like magnesium catching fire
    Is it pretty obvious which materials the rim is, or are they pretty forgiving and close enough is fine
    What other things should we check for signing off, go no go toe stuff
    If it's bent I'd it ok to bend it back
    If the crack is on the spokes, or greater than a certain size
    Etc

    • @BeAMetalFabricator
      @BeAMetalFabricator  10 місяців тому +2

      yes alloys change from rim to rim, I use 4043 Aluminum rod for all of it, and it works really good.
      No you don't have to worry about expansion or anything catching fire.
      most the rims are close to pure aluminum, Tesla wheels are the cleanest, but wheels from the 1970s or china are the dirtiest.
      if the rim is bent I would heat it up a little but with a small torch and try to bend it back before welding it.
      if its cracked on the spokes, if chunks are missing, if its nearly cracked in half, if the spokes are cracked through the barrel etc, I turn them down. Usually, the only repairs I do is the small cracks on the lip about 1.5" long or less that's leaking air, they are the most common repairs.
      use your best judgment when doing this. sometimes you might feel a repair might be too much and the best most safe option would be for the client to get a new rim.

    Greeting From Albania.
    I am new at this procces. I want to learn how to weld the rims because i also work at e tire shop, so this was going to be very useful for me.
    But i have something i want to ask you.
    When i weld the aluminum and i think everything is ok, when we put the tire back on the wheel it keeps leaking air from the welded spot.
    Please can you help me ?
    And i also want to thank you about the video, I found it very helpful.

    • @BeAMetalFabricator
      @BeAMetalFabricator  Місяць тому +2

      Well it sounds like something isn't right. There is a lot to unpack here, are you Tig welding? If so what filler material are you using? Do you have adequate aperage when welding to get full penetration? Are you making sure you are welding the entire crack? Sometimes the crack goes farther than you think, but usually you can notice this after welding. how clean is the surface when welding? Are you welding both sides? Are you getting a bunch of porosity? Is the aluminum boiling when you weld? How long after you weld the wheel does it start leaking? Sometimes there is two cracks. Sometimes it's cracked around the spokes (which I don't recommend fixing). I need more information in order to help

      By the time that i sent you the comment i have learned a lot of things by practicing and learning.
      The leaking air is not a problem anymore.
      But when i weld with 150 Amps and when i start to weld from the hole that i drill everything is fine, but at the lip it starts to melts.
      Please any idea on this ?
      And i use 4043 filler rod just like you said and you helped me a lot because i was using 5056😬.
      Waiting for your respond.
      Greetings

    • @BeAMetalFabricator
      @BeAMetalFabricator  9 днів тому

      So the lip starts to melt when you weld from the hole to the lip? You might just have to back off the peddle a little bit. The base metal gets hotter and hotter as you weld. Maybe let it cool a little bit before you weld the lip of the rim. I hope I'm understanding and answering your question correctly

    I did this repair several times for a 1 inch crack for my f10 528i rear rims and every then the crack reappears after spending alot of cash. Is there any permanent fix? Please help. Thank you.

    • @BeAMetalFabricator
      @BeAMetalFabricator  8 місяців тому

      I have only had one come back and I have been doing it for a while now. Sometimes these wheels seem dirty and don't weld very clean, even after excessive preparation. If it keeps cracking, the only permanent fix is a new rim brotha.

    • @BeAMetalFabricator
      @BeAMetalFabricator  2 місяці тому +1

      I'm not 100% sure but I doubt it. You would really have to have some experience with both aluminum welding and the aluminum mig

    • @Rush2daBag
      @Rush2daBag 26 днів тому

      Yes, TIG is better and produces better beads. When u mig aluminum u have to use a special spool gun and push the pool not drag. As long as it's hot and your gas coverage is correct so no contamination is introduced it should be fine. Make sure u get good penetration I just graduated from a weld school in nc. TIG rod and MIG wire are the same but u probably knew that. I been making bank 😊

    I was gonna get into this but where i live (south miami) people are too cheap to pay even 150 for bent rim. They want everything for 20..
    IF you do get into this, make sure to NOT deal with customers directly or you'll have fire up your ass for stupid reasons, so protect your ass and let the tire shop deal with the customers. Overall, great vid for rim welding.
    Also, don't bother replying to stupid comments, it's uTube; LIfe ain't worth the aggravation over haters..

      Yep all you have to do after is balance it because it'll obviously all be out of wack since the welding material is heavier than aluminium (i think?)
