The best repair iv ever seen This guy takes pride in his work and definitely went above and beyond to make the rim appear that it was never repaired at all and it exactly appears that way. Thank you sir for taking time to show us your work
A lot of the crap that came up would have been from what was trapped in the remnants of the crack. I always run a slitting disc down through the crack to try clear it out, and then do a pass just to burn any left over crud out before i start adding filler, that bit of extra prep makes life so much easier and neater. Other than that, fantastic vid bud 👍👍
he said it was rubber pieces, so you are correct. I usually blow out the crack with compressed air and run a thin blade down, to get the dirt out of there. I agree he did a very nice job besides that one step at the beginning.
My welded rear alloy wheel (unbeknownst to me before buying the car) imploded at 60mph. A tire shop said the welding was done poorly and the only option for now is to weld it back again since no one is selling the same wheel model anywhere. I just hope they do better job at it, since it's pretty scary when a wheel cracks during a drive..
Hi Tom! thanks for an amazing video! Very helpful and knowledgeable! What did you use to put the groove in the wheel? With the wax? I couldn’t make out the name of the grinder, sorry this is my first rodeo. Oh is it better to put a point on the tungsten or not? Thanks
Hi 👋 we use a tungsten carbide burr and a wax called trendi wax and that stops them clogging up. The grinder is a die grinder. Don’t put a sharp point on when welding Ali you only sharpen it for steel 👍 hope this helps
I have the same problem on speedline wheel. I like the factory finish after repair !!! Its line never happened. But is this repair strong enough or it will crack again to the same spot?
Solid video but definitely consider using alcohol as a lubricant and de-clogger on your die grinder. We used to use wax and always had problems with impurities but now we are using alcohol we have found the problem drastically reduced
What a clean Finish !!!!!!! 10/10
Thank you 👍

Thanks for the kind words 👍
But if you take the all weld off chances are it will break again very easily .
@@yasarramzan4796 Where in the hell did you see him 'taking off welds'?
I think he was referring to the Cap weld,in any case, he said with this process, he’s never had one returned so awesome job!!!

Best finish I've seen , I prefer the drill and cut method but each to their own , looks super nice and I doubt it would affect the balance if at all
Thanks . I’ve done it that way too and had great results 👍
Thanks
what filler wire do you use
95%ali 5% silicone sure it’s called 1050
Do you offer this as a service? I’m located in Milton Keynes and can bring my wheels to you… Great video, don’t think I’ll try myself 👍
great job looks like new...what would a repair like this cost ..?..
Hi probably in the region of £60/80

@@Metal_shaper_tom Thank you so much!
Good job, did you use a foot pedal?
No I didn’t on this job
I have the same problem on speedline wheel. I like the factory finish after repair !!! Its line never happened.

Hi 👋 I personally think this repair is strong enough to last. It hasn’t cracked again and it’s been at lest 6 months since I repaired it. Thanks 👨🏭
Hi mate just bought one over these welders, what settings do you have it on and what mm rod do you weld with please?
I can’t remember off the top of my head. I’m sure it’s all in the video
Hi Tom - I've just found your channel and I'm binge watching. What wax do you use to stop the tungsten burr clogging?
Hi Peter . We use trendiwax for this 👍
You would be better off using alcohol. Stops the clog and doesn’t leave a residue which can contaminate the weld
Nice work! Tell me, please, what is the name of this grinder? 5:27
@@Veganf00tS0ldier thnx!
Can you build up for curb rash
Yeah I’d say so 👍
Great job, what area do you guys cover?
I’m in Cheltenham
Hi, can we use MIG to do the same work. Thx
I personally wouldn’t but that’s just me
What kind of welding stick u used to melt into the wheel?
5% silicone

Thank you for the advice 👍
Just curious can u use stick??
No don’t think so
Nice job.
You should really wear a dust mask and use tig gloves though.
You only get one set of lungs.
How is it holding? Did it leak any air after the weld?
Held really well. No issues with it
with how many amps do you weld that rim
I think it was around 130 🤔
You in Texas? I need my rim fix asap
Yeah just down the road . Drop it off I’ll have it done in a hour.
Why are the people doing mine taking hours and hours
