chuck kososky the going price to have that job done at a garage would be at least two hundred dollars including parts and labor. The IAC valve can cost over $70.00 from Delhi and $90.00 from Napa. I ordered one from EBay for $7.50, with a one year warranty, and installed it in about 20 minutes following your directions. I bet your daughter is proud of you for the fine job you did. Anyhow, thanks again for helping me too. Videos like yours make UA-cam great!

Did the plugs (CHECK THE GAPS - don't assumed they're right in the box!)/wires/tb/distributor cap/rotor all the obvious and IAC was dirty. PLUS (free tip) had a small hole in my exhaust right before the 1st O2 sensor off the manifold. Welded that closed and WOW. What was so confusing - NO codes whatsoever. Haven't had this 03 S10 running this good since the day I bought it! 305k miles and STILL runs like a top. You take care of it, it'll take care of YOU! Thanks!

Never start a vehicle with the IAC unmounted from the TB. The stopper/valve you cleaned operates like a piston. The interior wall of the TB is what stops it's forward movement during operation. You can crank the engine with the IAC's wiring harness unplugged to listen for changes in idle speed, but not when it's physically unmounted from the TB housing.

Just wanted to tell you that the old valve was working properly, just needed cleaning, but there's a way to do it. It's supposed to spring out if it's not inside the throttle body. There's a tiny magnetic motor that spins a spring-loaded screw.
Here's the trick on how to clean it completely.
Simply put the valve inside a rag and turn the ignition key but don't start the engine. Then you'll find the valve's tip is out and inside the rag and then you can thoroughly clean it. After cleaning it, put it back together and DISCONNECT THE BATTERY, fit the connector while the ignition is turned on, then HOLDING the valve forcing the tip inside with one hand, and connect and re-disconnect the battery about 3 times with the other hand . You'll notice that it's retracting to its normal position. Careful not to forget holding the valve tip while connecting the battery or it will shoot out :)
It's a hassle, but that's how you clean it and avoid buying a new one.

Sometimes you can tap the iac valve while your car is idleing rough, and if your car changes idle speed immediately, then your iac valve is definately bad. But if idle speed change is not detected after the tap, then chances are it most likely will be a stuck open/shut throttle plate. Taking the throttle body off and cleaning it with carb cleaner wire brushes and wrags, will have it running like new

Hi Chuck, awesome video... I had the same problem which helped solved the surging at idle...
The next question in my research is to find the problem with my daughter's car (yes another daughter needs dad's help they forget that we were surplus to them between 13-20y..)
Anyway .. back to the question, most forums and posts on the same topic pointed to Vaccum hoses or the TPS - however in after replacing the TPS or cleaning it after the battery has been unplugged for a couple of weeks - means you will need to teach or relearn the TPS for the ecu.
The actual sequence to do this for the model of the engine in your video (1.6L ecotec) 1.6-litre twin-cam 16-valve F16D3 Daewoo inline-four engine (Holden Barina) Chevy? GM?
I cannot find ... I found others very similar.. maybe even the correct one.... just wondered if you actually know how to relearn the TPS (throttle Position Sensor) on this engine family

Egr valve maybe clogged. Or intake full of carbon. Whoever decided that engines need to eat there own shit and make it a requirement should be made to eat there own shit mixed in with there meals. They'll be saving the environment. And get all the nutrients still there going to waste like dogs do. Delete or block them off. If check engine light bothers you. A racing or tuning shop can turn the light off for good with most cars. With my mustang I bought a Diablo programmer and was about to turn it off and cat converter code. Your car will run much better any engine with one or both of these done.shits Killing cars daily that and water thin 5/30 oil. USA is the only country doing this super thin oila. 5/30 is mostly all additives full of plastic polymers that sludge up. 10/30 has twice the actually lubricating oil. 5/30 isn't made for above 40 degree weather. They say it's good for 95. Drive your car on a90 degree day and change your oil that 5/30 is thinner then water. Cars without oil gauges which is most cars you don't see the oil pressure drop on those hot days and city driving with it. The most damage occours in bumper to bumper or rush hour traffic as you idle along the oil pressure is the lowest because rpma are low. That's why idling is rough on a car. Engine is hot, radiator is hot getting not much air unless it's a motor mounted fan not electric. I've seen many trucks switch to the electric fans only to go back to clutch motor driven fan. Oil is hottest then as well the oil pan is getting no airflow. The motor is heat saturated. Best you can do is crack the hood and let more hear escape headers are 1100 degrees. Oil breaks down as well by the time it comes to change that 5/30 is a 5/20. If you find your manual for a different country it'll show thicker oil. My car calls for 5/30 now a couple years later same motor no internal differences calls for 5/20 in another country calls for 10/40 15/40 and 20/50 depending on temp. Unless below 0 degrees don't use a 5/10-30 weight oil. But here in USA now want to put 5-20 in everything. If your gonna have 30 weight use 10/30 diesal oil. It's dual rated for fleet yse you'll see the API sn logo on it. It's way more stout oil. Much better additive packs. Diesal conventional oil have been going 10k+ mile changes of today's synthetics for decades

It's hard to believe but your IAC valve is identical to the one that Dodge 3.9L uses, or at least it looks the same from here. Just cleaned mine, the pintle was so carboned up you couldn't tell what shape it was supposed to be, and it helped a lot but my problem is still intermittent so I'm going to change the TPS next. I could see when you were cleaning the pintle on yours that it was loose and I thought did he unscrew it? Because you can can unscrew it and clean all the way down inside. So when you said that you turned on the ignition b4 reinstalling IAC and the pintle popped out, because it's spring loaded, I thought yep that screw was broken. The threads on the pintle are over an inch long and it's amazing that it broke. Nonetheless your tutorial is very helpful and informative. Thanks for it.

Yes it has a gasket that should be replaced when you start your reassembly, and be sure to clean the mating surfices of the throttle body to upper intake plenum really good before you install your new gasket and use a little bit of gasket sealer on one side of the gasket as well, this will insure no intake leak at the connecting surfaces

Thats what im working on, the plunger seems frozen, i did what you did, but i lost the oring, found it,put it in its place so i woulnt loose it, with the valve out i fired it up,an the o ring got sucked in, i dont think its going to hurt anything,it idled high seemed rough though. I will start fresh with a new one, an noticed i have gas seeping out where an injector top meets the fuel rail, meaning i have to pull the manifold off. 93 trooper,3.2,gas, any tips?

I have a 2000 Dodge ram 1500 I replaced the distributor because it would just crank and not start. Now it fires right up like a champ , I notice it sounds like it has a misfire and when I drive it and the engine will die out and won't start unless I spent on the gas pedal.. hopefully this will fix the problem

Sounds like you might of crossed a spark plug wire when you connected them back to the distributor cap, if not your probably looking at bad spark plug wire(s) or even your plug(s) if you didn't already change them along with the new distributor cap with new rotor button which would have been proper protocal for that job. Check those things and let me know what its still doing and maybe we can get help you get it figured out

I have a 2013 JGC 3.0L diesel. It had a fuel dilution initially I suspect that led to leaking turbo seals. Intake had a lot of oil in it. I changed three out of six injectors and the car has very rough idling puffing out white smoke with very poor performance. Can't get it to climb above 45m/h on a flat stretch. It drops to less than 20m/h on inclines. Could it be the IAC?

I've basically done the same thing to my car. I changed the ignition coils, plugs, wires, injectors, EGR valve, and the MAF sensor. I checked the IAC and the pintle is stuck out. I'm hoping that changing that will finally clear up my problem. My car is a 2004 Buick LeSabre... It's doing the exact same thing your daughter's car is doing. The rough idle, and when I put it in gear, forward and reverse, it really starts shuddering... I guess my next move is to replace the IAC....

Is your Aveo's PCV valve broken? If it isnt working, oil and soot will continue to foul your throttle body. Also is the low idle unit dirty from deposits? The throttle body needs to be dismantled and cleaned.
