Boring? Peanut Butter Wolf is just a very relaxed, mellow dude. Not to mention one the knowledgable and friendly dudes in the game.
Mr. Bowman was the sh*t. I had a high school teacher who burned me CDs of The Replacements and the Velvet Underground. Teachers that expose their students to good music are the best.
Thank you PBW!
You shaped me almost ten years ago!
I might still be young but I would be a different person today had it not be for Stones Throw records!
Grew up with Charizma & have known Chris (PBW) since the early 90's. Cool. As. F$%^. He's a strictly LA cat now but if you can link up with him, pick his brain for vinyl knowledge man! Dude is a beast!
RIP Charizma
FUSE !! DO MADLIB CRATE DIGGERS PLEASE !!!!!!!!
i think that video exists.
Slaying Mantis nope it don't
I like what he said....."I still get that rush when I'm in a record store"...... A great disorder to have !!!
Not good for my wallet
I would've assumed that a digger like Wolf would spend more than $200 on records. That's cool as hell to me! Gives people that don't have big money hope that they can still find awesome stuff.
only time crate differs spend that kind of money is at record shows
Rest in Peace Charizma
Met PBW in New Orleans in 1999 and got a pic with him. Very cool guy.
Knowing that he’s L.A.based and knowing what housing prices are out here , I’m so curious where he lives with that huge backyard.
wow , that untitled 45 by the throbbing gristle is probably rare as fuck
united*
ahh my bad
Really would like to see Luke Vibert or Theo Parrish in this series!
this man is legend
San Jose represent... we gotta rich history of hip hop producers, fred wreck (snoop's main dj and producer for awhile), dj king assassin (worked with 2pac), traxxamillion (one of the main and biggest producers in the hyphy movement), DJ Shadow (needs no explaining to all the real hip hop heads out there) and of course this dude pb wolf founder of stones throw records, r.i.p charizma... special shout to greg geezy of g-pack r.ip d-mack
Shout to the 408.
0:35 for half of a second - Queens of Compton 12" 1990
Viewing the thumbnail for this video, I thought you were trying to look like Alex from A Clockwork Orange.
dat lord_quas 8_track doe
That's pretty dope man.. too bad Charizma's life was cut short, he could've helped put the South Bay on the map. I'd love to hook up with Peanut Butter Wolf. My Uncle talked to him on the phone, and whenever he comes back to San Jo he's gonna try to make to time meet up with us! We'll see!! Thanks!!!
I would kill to see Premier's collection.
jesus... did his girlfriend just break up with him or something?
+stopnotplayin haha no doubt, he's looking sad as fuck
+stopnotplayin yeah, he is weird.
He always like that. I saw the documentary and spoke in a monotone voice looking down. Is he gay or what?
Good Ol' Peanut Butter is a weird guy. At least he's happy.. I think he's happy.. he probably doesn't even know
Jonathan Wright I think he was happier back in the early-mid 2000s, in some of the videos back then you can see him dying of laughter with Dilla or messing around with Madlib haha. And I’m pretty surebefore Charizma’s death. In the early 90s he always has a smile on his face in the pictures and videos.
He's doing what he loves, I really don't think he's depressed. He's just, relaxed, and monotone.
Interesting that he cites Malcolm McLaren as an influence. They're both sort of annoying in a similar way
Why is it every collection I see, all of the records are shelved lopsided. Does that not warp the records
Even record stores have them like that a lot of the time
Schoolly D!!! Bought that one also in that time, 86 i think- the original gangster..Real rap not like todays weakness crap
thank you peanut butter wolf
Very few will ever have a collection like this.
PB wolf is a king
Val Shively let me dig around his upper floors for a full day almost 20 years ago. I had known of the store since it was local to me and one day he came in the book store I worked in and I mentioned wanting ti get over there and he told me to come on my next day off and hed let me search around. I didnt know at the time that that kind of thing doesnt happen
Crazy, being a DJ must be hard on the back.
I moved 3000lps and thought it was total hell. I can't imagine 15,000! WOW!
Peanut butter Wolf is a cool guy, but he has to have the most monotone boring voice, it's so hard to listen to him even though you want hear what he has to say
PBW !!! Can't say enough good things about this guy's creativity, record label & fan awesomeness
shoot..let me get sum records
Wutz good my G Just read ur message..I jus moved here from miami Dat B great

I first heard of Peanut Butter Wolf around 5 years ago while searching for rappers/ hip hop producers from San Jose, Ca. since that's where i'm from. About 3 months ago my Uncle told me that P.B.W. is his really good friend and they went to high school together. Now my Uncle is trying to link me up with P.B.W. & Stones Throw Records.. hope it happens soon!!!
Thank you. Record collecting is so OCD....but the people are cool...
I want to hear DOOM's from the perspective of a supervillain.

7:22 - What the fuck was that Quas, some unreleased stuff? Looks kinda like The Unseen but, my interest has been peaked. This is one of the seldom times i've seen him laugh too, super cool guy. GET ONTO MADLIBS CRATES NEXT.
0:53 - 1:15 Awesome :D
Pretty much everybody- Wolf, J Rocc, Jazzy Jeff, ?uestlove- has said that they starved in school cuz they spent all their lunch money on records.
i had that mixer. maybe everyone did. i rigged mine with a button i called the morse code to it. i was making stuttering crabbin sounds waaaaayyy baack
That's funny with California. There's 3 South bay's in Cali. Nor Cali, LA and SD
This man is a legend.
Straight hoarder haha. He seems to have a little bit of everything and can never get rid of anything. I'm so glad I got rid of a lot of my records. Less filler more heat.
DJ Jazzy Jeff, said the same thing, all of high scool, he used his lunch money to buy records. he had a great episode too.
i'm no doctor...... but i get the impression you have a chemical imbalance somewhere in your brain.
@Annetworth still just diggin i went nuts off this video its hard for girl diggers ya'll junkkies
i want to see madlibs
Is there a site where felllow diggers can meet each other? I wish I knew some in person. I'm already one.
I remember my brother had that Realistic Radio Shack Mixer,no tables. He used to try to fuck me up for stealing it all the time. The crossfader was horrible because it bled like crazy but it was better than what I was using.I would take hook my turntables on to this stereo receiver I rigged one table on the right speaker and one on the left and use the balancer as my crossfader.
Dayum Public Image Ltd. s/o to Johnny Rotten.
I HAVE THAT SAME DAMN STEREO MIXER!!! I DONT USE IT THO, I ENDED UP FRYING THE DAMN THING....LOL!
Yes indeed. Didnt know i reached legendary status.
Metal Box! Fucking hell hat has to be one of the most frightening records I've ever heard.
Check out my video to see my latest digs. =)
I actually really like his chilled and relaxed personality.
Sincere, informative and interesting... awesome video.
That Throbbing Gristle's really got me excited.
all you diggers out there c'mon tell me where that nice break is from at 4:33!
funny, still have the same mixer he shows at 3:03, my first mixer too.
Nothing to smile about in Peanut Butter Wolf’s life
Did anyone know the song from 1:16 - 1:27 ? Tnx!!
Peanut Butter Wolf? Auto thumbs up.
I wonder if he has Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd. I do. ~ o
This whole series is just plain cool. Word to Fuse for making this shit happen! We're taken inside these headline producers / DJs inner sanctums and they give us time and insight into their collections and digging styles. That's massive!!
Please, Premier, Showbiz, Q-Tip, Buckwild, RZA, Easy Mo, K-Def
was going to say the same thing. lighten up man! music is life! life is good!
Love to see a primo one, bet he's got some fucking mad collection going on
I don't even have 300 but that's an impressive number haha
throbbing gristle, yep that's a dope record
It would be cool if Illa J showed off Dilla's collection.
Hell yea.. hopefully it happens soon!
I LOVE THIS SERIES "Crate Digger's" Keep up the great work over there at Fuse !!!
Fearless 4 were just Grandmaster Flash wannabees
this is a very great to watch for a digger!
go talk to DITC!
"This is around fifteen tousand I think" (I got around 300 cd's)
Steve Vai played all the guitars on the PIL album. That was a great album...came out while I was in high school. Not as great as Never Mind The Bullocks, of course.
BHAKTI BROPHY I really don't think that's true at all. (the Steve Vai comment)
Jeff Nolan Actually, I'm friends with Steve. He recorded the guitars in his studio in LA and sent the tapes back England.
Maybe other guitars were added in England? But Steve did the crux of the studio guitars with on that album. It's factual buddy.
You're talking about a much later PIL album, not Metal Box. it's well known Keith Levene was the guitar player on this. It's also well known The Edge copied his playing style also btw. I'm not familiar with newer Lydon only records by them but your comment led me to dig a little and found out Vai did play on a PIL album, but not this one. That's pretty interesting.
Jeff Nolan He played on GENERIC, their first album.
I don't recall my comment...Maybe I was answering someone about Generic?
He wasn't credited on the original LP (I've been listening to Steve since the Zappa years...I would have freaked out if I knew that was him I was listening to!!).
I found out around 1999.
That's basically when he decided he didn't want to go the session player route.
I'm glad he didn't!!!
I loved some of the PIL tunes, don't get me wrong, I'm just glad he decided to focus on his own music.
: )
Have a great evening. (Or day/afternoon). ;)
PS You can hear some of the tunes Steve played on from Generic on one of Steve's CDs from his SECRET JEWEL BOX. I think they're still available to buy without the entire box.
If you're interested, I'd have to get the box out of the attic and check which compilation Vai CD it is.
But the PIL album was the first one (maybe it wasn't the first, perhaps just the first I recall after the demise of the Sex Pistols)...white with the blue line. Like the generic cereal boxes from the early 80s. It wasn't actually titled "Generic" (on the original LP, anyway).
That was YEARS ago. I was either a freshman or sophomore in high school, so either '83-'85.
bro, are you the real Ayatollah? The legend himself?
Hoarders (Record Edition) 🤣
Oh damn TG United, lovely, that.
hey calm down buddy, no need to get all excited!
man...we are serious hoarders when it comes to this!
Love it. I find out so much about music this way. Keep em coming.
