I also grew up / existed in the late '80's Sk8 scene of Charleston S.C. I can also honestly state that "I Love Rock 'n Roll" by Joan Jett and the Blackhearts was one of my first favorite songs. "She's On It" By Beastie Boys was featured on the Beastie Boys "License to Ill" VHS, Jus' sayin'...
You obviously don't understand where he's coming from. I understand exactly what he's saying, I used to love finding kick ass underground artists through magazines, shows, record stores or word of mouth. It was part of the fun of underground music, there was no iTunes, bandcamp and myspace. Kids today have it made.
For someone who appropriates many old graphics for his art, I would have expected Shepard to respect an amateur artist like Joe Cool for creating that Snoop Dogg debut album art.
Shepard has a good point, I get excited when I find a song that I feel is really good but still "underground".. unfortunately in todays world its probably well known in some parts of the world .. i wish it was just as hard to find new underground music as it was back then.. but at the same time i love how i can go through so much music and find more of what appeals to me
dude this show isn't about DJs and/or producers its about record collectors just enjoy the collections they bring you. for all you know they have asked these people to participate and they have declined. just give it some time.
Would be nice to know what Shep feels about Blink-182. Think I read an article where he said they were "clueless phonies" but sometimes the media takes things out of context. But if he really said that... that's awesome! lol
And last time I heard, Doom was living on friends couches in London or some shit, besides, I heard in an interview that he lost all his records. Suffice to say I don't think he'll be on Crate Diggers any time soon.
Hip Hop culture took ALOT from skateboarding.......WE had to go into the ghetto too sk8.....no ONE CARED there. DC, LOVE PARK ...these places in the 90s where dangerous & WE the SKATEBOARDERS where there....baggy paint size 60 plus and all ... O.G....period.
@@estebansteverincon7117 I don't think Brunetti and Natas or the guy who designed Fuct's hottest shit (Slick KTS) gives a shit about Shepard Fairey or what he does as they are all very financially self-sufficient regardless
That is so crazy that I ran into Mr. Fairey on this show because I was actually going to watch another video of someone making beats with their vinyl collection. This is great too since I still don't know much about Mr. Fairey yet although he seems a lot like me only a tad better at bein a human.
@arkay49er Hey man, I know the Talking heads and so probs Tom Tom Club recorded at compass point studios. Compass point all stars were the in house band and were often joined by sly and robbie. If you look in the liner notes for the all stars then it might help. peace!
cuz muthafucken fuse doesn't even allow cuss words -so they probably censored out some nudity or whatever. also, it could have been a request from fairey himself. why would he wanto advertise that he has original artwork from ____, worth a million dollars or whateve
I don't know this guy, never heard of him, but I enjoyed his take on record collecting etc... This is one of the more interesting vids from this series - at least that I've watched so far. I was surprised when Shepard implied that Sly & Robbie were part of the rhythm section on the eponymous Tom Tom Club album. Not to nit pick, but it does not appear that they were. If I'm wrong about this perhaps someone could let me know (hopefully without childishly telling me to go fuck myself etc...)
I love this series.
My Crate Diggers wishlist:
Quentin Tarantino
DJ Premier
Madlib
DJ Shadow
DJ Krush
Havoc
The Beatnuts
Afrika Bambaataa
you notice that none of the wishlist are shitty "artists" like this fag
Mc Redneck fuck off
Oh yeah I would love to See tarantino!
lol that eyebrow has a mind of its own
LOL!!!!
BRUH 😂😂😂
If they ever make a Shepard Fairey movie, Matt Damon is shoe-in.
To play his dad?
@4:38 he says "Jeff Beck" but he's holding The Brothers Johnson, "Look Out for #1"
man i had to go pull my copy of the johnson record.... and jeff beck wasnt even in the vicinity. complete fail.

My Tom Tom Club album lives in my Hip Hop Section too!!!
That Jello signed copy is just magnificent for me. Lucky you!
not a fan of this guy but props for having the og chocolate boards with paulo diaz, gino, keenan etc
Pretty sure he did the Artwork for those but I could very well be wrong.
Nope, Evan Hecox did all those graphics, this dude was probably slapping Obey stickers around when those boards dropped.
For someone who appropriates many old graphics for his art, I would have expected Shepard to respect an amateur artist like Joe Cool for creating that Snoop Dogg debut album art.
2023 still crate diggin baby💯
DJ Shadow is everything!!💙
Shepard has a good point, I get excited when I find a song that I feel is really good but still "underground".. unfortunately in todays world its probably well known in some parts of the world .. i wish it was just as hard to find new underground music as it was back then.. but at the same time i love how i can go through so much music and find more of what appeals to me
fuck yeah, i was looking for ages for the song wordy wordsmith by the tom tom club, forgot the name completely
I love Shepard's art. He has a great style.
out of all the crate diggers I've seen so far, this ones been the most interesting...
because he's the lesser of a crate digger perhaps ...and I dont mean that as a diss
He has become a huge influence in underground culture..hats off to this man
I have that same Black Flag Damaged vinyl
that portrait of PE(it takes a nation of millions to hold us back) in the background..CLASSIC
“Semantic Warfare”, pretty well sums up any discussion online regarding music. 👌 Not that that’s a bad thing.
dude this show isn't about DJs and/or producers its about record collectors just enjoy the collections they bring you. for all you know they have asked these people to participate and they have declined. just give it some time.
Should see a chiropractor about that posture
Jeffrey Hunt that's what I was thinking... that hump on his back looks like bad news.
That's what wearing a right shirt will do to you.
I think the mix of genres is awesome
I love the links to the songs mentioned
Would be nice to know what Shep feels about Blink-182. Think I read an article where he said they were "clueless phonies" but sometimes the media takes things out of context. But if he really said that... that's awesome! lol
Awesome
When he pulled out that copy of Mellow Gold then The Brothers Johnson..... Man i nearly pissed myself!
And last time I heard, Doom was living on friends couches in London or some shit, besides, I heard in an interview that he lost all his records. Suffice to say I don't think he'll be on Crate Diggers any time soon.
RIP

Hip Hop culture took ALOT from skateboarding.......WE had to go into the ghetto too sk8.....no ONE CARED there. DC, LOVE PARK ...these places in the 90s where dangerous & WE the SKATEBOARDERS where there....baggy paint size 60 plus and all ... O.G....period.
Wow. So many haters here.
haters.. cuntiest word there is.
but do you even know why many people dislike this dude?
innit.
For good reason. He's a hack:
addicteed.wordpress.com/special-features/fuct/
Esteban, it says "He borrowed designs" which many artists have done so how does that make him a hack?
@@estebansteverincon7117 I don't think Brunetti and Natas or the guy who designed Fuct's hottest shit (Slick KTS) gives a shit about Shepard Fairey or what he does as they are all very financially self-sufficient regardless
lets see kankick or taku's collection how about sir richard branson's? (if you want to go the non-dj or musicians route)

@arkay49er Hey man, I know the Talking heads and so probs Tom Tom Club recorded at compass point studios. Compass point all stars were the in house band and were often joined by sly and robbie. If you look in the liner notes for the all stars then it might help. peace!
Funny how he has to say "small allowance" considering a decent allowance would totally take away his credability with the under priveleged.

well seeing as Tina n CHris were drums n bass of Talking Heads you'd assume they did the riddims
