- All of the characters in Tenkaichi 3 play the same...expect when they don't. But they also sometimes do. But not always.
Anyway I still love this game and I hope Sparking Zero lives up to the hype.

I was about to write a big thing about how wrong you were after reading the title, but this is a very good explantion about how the game works and it's honestly very rare that people actually understand it. Talk about a catchy title too...
Tenkaichi 2 was a much more complicated fighting game, 3 toned it down quite a bit, but I don't think that was done on purpose. We'll see what Sparking Zero brings and if it leans closer to BT2 or BT3.
The title is still correct.😂
There's no actual character combos in this game. It's not a fighting game. They swap around the functions to trick you into thinking characters are individuals.
Yeah this, and the series, ain't a fighting game and most of the characters still do play mostly the same. It's not particularly different from the naruto games, they are just arena games (huge cast of characters all mostly playing the same with ""combos"" that even a toddler could do, 3d and all that)
@@lorenzosp8566 I think this comes down to a lack of understanding of how the game works. BT2 at least. If you chose to walk your way through FighterZ throwing out the auto combo, you might also be mistaken in thinking it wasn't a proper fighting game.
Ninja Storm certainly is not anywhere near as complicated as BT2
@@tkm1875 the title is not entirely correct tho, as some characters don't have combo moves other characters can do
@@cobrinion4673 no, it could have immense depth (it doesn't), it would still just be an arena fighter, not a fighting game. It just so happens that most of the time, arena fighters are braindead button mashers and cheaply made games with huge amounts of recycled cast and moves, but some vary, a bit
When I was a child my friends would complain how similar characters were but they only smash 📦
Chiaotzu moving like that is mad demonic 😭😭😭
my favorite character to use in the BT series is teen gohan ssj 2 because the moves he’s doing is the same ones he did against cell.
speedy boi. i just like that he is basically just a beyblade

Like my friend Jagger said: "I mean, of course if all you do is spam square or you know combos the entire match. guess what?, every character feels the exact same, because you do the exact same shit with every character."
The thing with Battle of Z is that every character is has a unique role to fill on a unique team of four! Can't wait until the video drops.
I still play that sometimes
Most annoying misconceptiom about the game
It's still true. Because no character has actual character depth. Characters can't even use special moves as a part of actual combos, lol.
@@tkm1875you most def can wtf are you talking about
@@tkm1875 you clearly have never played the game before if that’s what you really believe
@@tkm1875 idk what you're talking about
1:OP definitely just read the title and go heated. 2: the title is true if you look at the game at face value. The basic move set is standardized to have a huge roster and then each character is defined by their specials, size and actual lore. I think a good comparison for this are the Mishima's in tekken. They all have a standardized tool like 1,1,2 tsunami kick, electric and hell sweep; but the tools around that base are what defines the character. An even better example actually is Sol and Order Sol from accent core. They have almost the same normals, but they are applied differently Order Sols grab wall splats in the corner for example where as regular sols is a knock down. One tool for combos the other for oki set ups. Seems to me that tenkaichi 3 is a game designed around that, which is why it ain't for me. That being said it's interesting design and unique way to add depth.
U can't guard from behind but u can vanish or u can use explosive way
Fr if you get hit with a combo over 30 you’re just bad at vanishing
Well tbf, only certain moves can be vanished so if you do a full rush string, flying kick, ki blast, dash ki blasts, or kiai cannon there is no way to get out of the combo as none of those moves can be vanished. On top of that, explosive waves can be countered by using dash ki blasts so if you get combined from behind your kinda screwed.

This is easily one of the best videos you ever made. Much like Preztel, who also left a comment, I've gotten into competitive BT3 fairly recently after picking up the game again since playing as a child. It gets extremely tiring having to tell people that the game isn't as barebones as everyone thinks it is because, believe it or not, high level players don't just mash square...
Either way though, this explains a lot in a digestible way, with clean editing all while being pretty funny! Great video.
Edit: some credit to jagger1407 wouldn't hurt though😅
That Title made me question everything about my childhood😂😂
Evokes jokes are why I keep coming back
If your opponent gets behind you in a combo, you can break out of it. If you press both triggers and bumpers at the same time, your character will exchange some health for a shockwave rebound that bounces your opponent back!
You’re talking about the emergency blaster wave. It’s double tapping L2 execute it.
@@ChiefBaron000 Oh it has a name??? I swear it's not anywhere in the tutorials, I found it out from a random video years ago and wanted to know how to do it. I ended up pressing all the triggers and bumpers at the same time repeatedly to get it to work. Handy to know it's just L2! That'll make things easier for the future, thanks!
@@gamergoku9001 my fault it’s L1. and if I’m not mistaken there is a description in the battle training tutorial about that
@@gamergoku9001 it was indeed in the tutorial lmao
there are multiple ways to defend when your back is turned
- Z-Counter (requires Ki management)
- EBW (what you've mentioned)
- Evasive Blast 1s (Afterimage, Wild Sense, Explosive Wave, Android Barrier etc)
- Waiting on the opponent to use a teleportable move
That being said, all of these are either char dependent or have drawbacks, so getting a backturned combo is the Tenkaichi meta, and your best offensive option, hence why flanking is such a big aspect in pvp
@@_jagger1407 Oh never mind then lol. I guess I must have missed that one! 😅
It's always funny how fans of a particular DBZ game will so often accuse every other game in the franchise of having no depth and every character playing the exact same. FighterZ fans say that about Budokai, Tenkaichi and Xenoverse. Xenoverse fans say that about FighterZ, Tenkaichi and Budokai. Budokai fans say it about FighterZ, Tenkaichi and Xenoverse. Tenkaichi fans say it about Budokai, FighterZ and Xenoverse.
And they are wrong each and every time. Yeah sure the depth and uniqueness of the characters vary and these games are not equal in all aspects, but what is true is that they all have their own skill ceiling required to compete with the best, and each offers a unique experience. Anyone who denies that is just an elitist who thinks they are superior to others just because they know how to press buttons in a certain way.
I mean FighterZ will obviously be more complex then arena fighters, it's just the nature of the genre so they're probably the only ones who are right
Xenoverse and Battle of Z everyone is different and plays different.
yeah, yesterday i was playing with vegeta and i noticed that the insane recycle of super and ultimate attacks
Thank you from the bottom of my heart, I have been playing competitive bt3 for the past year now and this has been the biggest pain in the ass to explain for those who don’t play it. Take my like and sub and have an amazing day.
WHO PLAYS THIS GAME COMPETITIVELY?! Where are the tournaments?! Tenkaichi is not competitively viable at all.😂
Me coming from the world of real fighting games, I played Tenkaichi 3 THROUGHLY and all the characters do play the same. They swap around functions during the second auto-combo to trick you into thinking characters are different but they aren't. I literally played this game to turn off my brain because it didn't require actual character study I needed in an actual competitive fighting game.
@tkm1875
You're telling me you played against the braindead bot while mashing square and the game didn't feel mentally stimulating???
However could this be the case?😱
Given the chance and patience to learn it, BT3 can be an incredibly interesting game with lots to learn. Characters have many differences and quirks to master and if you delve into the mechanics and tech, you'd notice how different they are. Ki blasts, Vortex dashes, Rush Reset Combos, Speed, Grab angles, Perfect smashes, blast 1s amongst many other things help to differentiate characters and allow them to play differently. There's also memorising a character's rush strings to learn their Z-counter timings, but that's a whole other thing.
And yes, an arena fighter on the PS2 with 161 characters, developed over the course of 3< years is going to have less character variation than a modern 2D fighter with 40-something characters like DBFZ with it's multiple DLCs. But that isn't to say there isn't any depth at all, there is quite a lot of it infact, and there's a lot that I haven't touched up on too. Just because you don't know how to play this game and how the characters work doesn't mean there aren't people who _do,_ it just means you're bad, and that's alright, but don't try to act snarky about it on your high horse when you don't know what you're talking about.

As a BT3 expert with a few tournament wins on my belt, this bugs me so much when people talk about the game. They dont even know basics. Watching gameplay on youtube gives me an aneurism 😂 People just dont understand the game and how much depth it has. Even some competitive players dont. I dont know how the game's actual movement and fighting systems went so far over people's heads. Every character is unique but everyone just mashes the square autocombo. Adding triangle is a revelation to people and literally the first baby step into the game
You came and told the only truth my brother
I feel like this game was a masterpiece when I was a kid
Still hoping I just get dopamine rush in sparking zero
That liver king bit and the intro were the best
Shoutout to you for making this video i was watching in the beginning like not one of these 😂
You can extend your base 5 hit combo with a breaker (X button) .. which gives you another 5 hit combo .. that’s what you can max out even WITHOUT a triangle variant (ps2)
Which change based on which form you pick ..
and the variants let further chains
The combos are nearly limitless. charging attacks mid combo to reset. teleport to get to your opponents back. counter mid combo to lure them into attacking.
Etc etc
This game (series) specifically did so many things right it’s a cultural shift to be able to get another one this year
So many details that I didn't know about! My favorite was how Devilman does less damage to later iterations of Piccolo and Vegeta
Dolphin is the best version of the third game. I’d love the tenkaichi 4 mod to be made for the Wii version which is easily the best way to play the game, it has classic controls (I use the Nintendo switch pro) and GC controls so you have a really good controller to use. And I really enjoy how well it cleans up on the Wii.
I love that you’re caught up on The Boys.
3:13 WHAT AN OLD MEME 😂😂 now I'm feeling nostalgic
man, even used the Yamcha example I showed in my vid, and the Android 16 Ki Blast animation, am I sensing a little "inspiration" here? A little credit is all I'm asking for, these were quite literally the same examples and talking points, down to the character.
Regardless, it's great that you're speaking about these differences, you have a much larger audience than I do. Maybe I'll even do a follow-up video showcasing strategies/setups that rely on these differences to drag home that they can greatly influence a match
SSJ4 Goku: Well. Is this what you wanted to see ?
I can't believe that there are still so many people discussing this game
Goku can also use the destructo disk if you press the ascending button and ki blast at the same time
I guess the ctrl+c ctrl+v accusations mainly come from comparing BT3 to any regular fighting game where characters are wildly different between each other even on their basic game plans, which makes BT3's roster look very samey in comparison.
I think even as a 14 year old I knew this. Hell I knew this as a 8 year old playing Budokai 1 on the PS2. I… didn’t care. I don’t think anyone cared truly. We were happy just to have this virtual toy box of Dragon Ball characters fighting.
I would love if everyone made it in the Sparking Zero. All the forms of Baby, every Gohan at every age and timeline, and even Oolong and Puar! Even if they are all just skins with voices.
If BandaiNamco or whoever is making the game wanted for give us fighters with unique fighters, thats cool too, but I buy Budokai games to experience that childhood Toy Box fantasyland. Not so much the Street Fighter or Smash Bros. experience.
Really love the effort you put in to these. Great opening too
The combo was always to lockem up with the center, down, and up combos while building up your support to 3, then use afterimage strike for Krillin Supremacy. Throw discs to stagger them. Throw them into your special. Best game ever.
That game was a comforting game for me
Perfection The Natural Selection
I loved raging blast 2’s combo system so much more since every character had different strings/cancels. Even weak characters like neizu had better combo potential than goku
Youre actually one of my favorite content creators on this platform please continue what you are doing
We need more gimmicks in zero, that's what you can get in a 6vs6 game
Fantastic breakdown! Really enjoyed this video, Hidden!

Shes cute likes dbz and is funny af aight u earned the sub for sure
Awesome DBZ game!
You play Tenkaichi for the FEELING of Dragon Ball and the big fights, if you want a proper fighting game go play FighterZ.
These gameplay elements and mechanics are the reason why that FEELING exists dawg
Broly is also the only character who has a full power blast 1 that doesn't leave him with a slow ki charge debuff after.
I feel as part two fixed this issue and then part three brings it back because they needed to get the game out real quick. Part two there's so many moves that are only shared by very little characters that make sense and unique moves that are only used by that character. Maybe you can argue that some of the abilities were similar but at least they were themed and named for the appropriate character instead of Goku punching the same exact way with four different character models.
It’s homelander going through the clips 😂😂😂😂 get her a million views for her adding this piece 😂😂😂
And you know what the funniest thing is, we never complained about it. If that would happen now, people would riot. Spoiled generation.
I’ve been saying this for years and I get shit for it cause I’m talking about such a beloved game
I thought this was a video about the many many Vegeta, Vegeta w/ scouter, Ssj Vegeta and on and on smh
Geets ALWAYS SPAMMING ki blasts
Honestly why care about things like this? Those who are bitching are literal children who complain at the slightest inconvenience. Regardless, it’s a fucking great game, who cares if it doesn’t have any depth or independent move sets to a character.
In my opinion, the games are so good because of these things. "Who cares if it doesn't have any depth" is what gave us Ultimate Tenkaichi.
The Tenkaichi games were so good because they gave the player so much freedom. There's at least 5 ways to approach, 10 ways to defend against attacks, and countless ways to link together the attacks that you have at your disposal. Even if you're a casual, without realizing you are constantly making decisions (like how to defend against attacks, or how to beat the opponents defense while attacking), in my eyes, this is why the game feels the way it does, you feel like a DBZ character because you have just as much freedom in gameplay as they do in the show. This is depth, just not in the same way traditional FGs implement it.
And character differences are still there, as this video was meant to show. Things like Ki Blast types, movement speed or melee momentum buildup directly open up more offensive options (= more freedom), while other differences not shown here like counter types can even open up more defensive options. All characters have a base set of options, and their unique moveset adds onto it.
The people complaining just cannot accept that Arena Fighters have depth and character design that goes past the design Street Fighter, and say "uhh all chars play same cuz same supers and combos >:((((" because of it. The games still have depth, loads of it, just not in the same way.
1:35 every time I'm reminded that SSJ2 Gohan didn't have the ability to break Giant characters superarmor I think about this and get pissed. I understand it's supposed to be a SSJ3 cutoff, but it never made sense to me. Outside of Hirudegarn
At least they got rid of the Z Item Fusion, and the two issues with Goku
1. BT can't use Kaio-ken Attack "Finish" without Kaio-ken but can use the Spirit Bomb...
2. BT2 can't use Spirit Bomb without Share Your Energy but can use Kaio-ken Attack "Finish".
Also everyone can use the 4 A combo in BT3. However the copy and paste is the same in BT2 with naming the move different but keeping the same combo Super 2 move.
Sure the areas for the tournaments are open at specific time which is an issue, also why is Vegeta's Final Shine Attack Blue in BT3 and Green in BT2... [coloring error] More importantly SS4 Vegeta never used that technique only GT Vegeta in Super Saiyan form.

With so many characters ofcourse they had to replicate attacks.
Raging Blast 2 has the most versatile fighting system, period. Nothing comes close. As Hidden explains, BT3 gave us the 4-smash system, and follow up. RB2 not only evolved this, but had employed 6 distinct fighting styles which it gave to all characters at random. This allowed you to develop your own 4-smash style, AND combine it with one of the 6 styles. They evolved the follow up system and made it a chain system, and gave us a proper cancelling aspect. Spike was genius, but RB2 didn't sell as well due to Galaxy mode, lack of characters, and rendering.
What's funny about Sparking is Spike will have to re-revamp BT3's 4 smash system, and ignore what they gave us in Raging Blast 2, because not enough people cared about it. I'm hoping once DLC rinses everyone for their money we get a Sparking 2, where the advanced combo system comes back, then online will really get insane.
Shame Goku Mid is the one with Give Me Energy and not Goku End. And shame Raging Blast didn't have Red Potara characters. Just imagine an RP Base Goku that has access to Charge Spirit Bomb while also having access to all his SSJ forms.
Well honeslty as much as I played it even as a kid I noticed this but I still liked how flashy the game was it was really fun especially for when it came out
Though in sparking every version of a character looks a little different aside from the occasional recycled. move from the old games they even are adding new ults. Like ssj2 vegeta has his cosmic circle attack as an ult the move he used against buuhan

You're telling me that Goku has the same animation as GOKU???!!!
WHAT????!!😔😔😔😔😭
And that's WHY I prefer Tenkaichi 2 over 3!
I can't be the only one who's commenting this while being attacked if you have no way to defend yourself tap L1 you lose some health but break free of a combo
We knew this already. Let's just pray it's not the same with Sparking Zero😂
Did you know that (i forgot exactly which base goku) goku can actually use the Destructo Disc ki blast just like Krillin? however only while jumping. that and I believe all sword characters like Dabura, Trunks, Tapion and even Yajirobe have the unblockable charged ki blast? Another thing about rush attacks, many many characters have extra combo animations after a step-in. Technically everyone has a basic 11 hit combo in BT3. A+A+A+A+A step in with dodge/dash+forward, then a direction (up down or neutral) then another 5 hit combo. which can also include rush chains as well
one of note is vegito. he will switch to his hard punches hits after a step in, SSJ4 Gogeta I believe switches to kicks when he does it as well
A real champion
characters also have a different speed at which they charge attacks, someone like Tien can always chuck out low charged Kiai Cannons, but due to smth called Melee Momentum, SSJ4 Gogeta charges his Rushing Techniques too fast to be able to use low charged kiai cannons inside a combo. How much melee momentum you can build depends on the character.
Other things include different counter stances (some have a Step-In counter, some don't), different counter types for these stances (some smash the opponent away, others use a Heavy Finish or Kiai Cannon), the amount of ki blasts you can throw before entering a cooldown (Vegeta can throw 10, Goku only 5), same goes for dashing and ascending variants, the length of the hitstun for charged ki blasts (some knock the opponent down, others give them a longer hitstun you can use as a combo link), obviously the follow-ups for each Rushing Technique (some have Heavy Crush, some have Delta Storm, some have both, some have neither) alongside Speed-based tech (some can semiflank after Flying Kicks, others can't) and Animation-basd tech (like RRCs, Rush Reset Combos) of course.
all of a sudden, people saying "well the chars are the same cuz like same Supers and combos" sounds stupid, doesn't it?
@@_jagger1407 this is a perfect explanation. Some character will literally do that light ki blast after two basic attacks then triangle,
But some people like super android 13 and powered up garlic jr will stun hard even after a light tap,
And most characters you’ll need to absolutely hold heavy attack triangle to get the full stun. There are powerhouse characters, rushers, stock ability protection characters, the only blank basic characters were throwaways like frieza soldier but it worked
Are similar but no equal 🗿🗿🗿🗿

I mean there's still a bit of Overlap between some characters and forms. They could have easily cut one of the 3 Z Goku to like 2. Heck Raging Blast gave us a single customizable Goku and was honestly the best way to handle it.
Tenkaichi's system wasn't built to support customizable movesets. Which is why the multiple iterations of Goku. And even then, they probably could've had more like Kaioken x3 Goku.

Good video! almost no one plays the same. the basic structure of the game requires everyone to have the same basic schematics. Heavy finishes. flying kicks. etc. and auto combos. when you *actually* play the game is when you truly notice not only the groups (character archetypes) you notice that its a movement game and NO ONE moves the same to the point the western competitive community has tier lists now showing overral greatness, and even individual specifications like. combo damage and passive ki charge speeds, have their own tierlists and the japanese players have blogs about it. Thank you for showing some differences... PS Broly is strong. Cell along with Burter are considered the best 3 chars in game by most competitive players. even so if you know the games mechanics and tech a large amount of A to low B characters have a remarkable chance of winning.
