I remember my friend had this game, and I'd always call it the dbz version of rock, paper, scissors 😅 This game literally used the Budokai 3 dragon rush as its core gameplay mechanic, like who the hell thought that would be a good idea for a tenkaichi game?! 😅 Even the first game in the BT series is more enjoyable than this because it offers more freedom to the player in a fight. Hell, that was literally one of the main selling points of the Budokai Tenkaichi series, to be a dbz simulation that allows the player to have DragonBallz style fights in a 3d environment. This game is way too restrictive for the series that it's meant to be a part of. Even the first Budokai Tenkaichi is not this restrictive, and that's not a good look for a game with "Ultimate" in its title. I expected it to keep the gameplay from the previous games in the series and add on to it. Instead, it took several steps back 😑
Idk why people take up interest in fighting games where you only need one button. The original Budokai series needs to come back. It has a good middle ground on casual and in depth gameplay
It sucks because i was excited to buy a game with my money as a kid and this game disappointed me after playing Budokai & Budokai Tenkaichi But I still played it and cherished it because i was a kid who loved to play the games I had. It had so many cool features like the new hero mode, cool graphics, boss fights, cutscenes and a 🔥 soundtrack (which is saying something because all DBZ soundtracks are great). As a top RB1 player, and the #1 competitive for Raging Blast 2 and as a pretty good BT3 player... All I have to say regarding "Ulttimate Tenkaichi" is just what Goku once said: "ROCK, PAPER, SCISSORS"
Ah the old rock paper scissors game that had better graphics than it ought to have had since it sucked so much. I wish modern dbz games would destroy the environment with your super attacks like this game. He shot a laser right as I said that and my friend dodged it just in time. Another great video. Good comedy (I don't hate the way you look). Great editing and a excellent and entertaining retrospective for the most boring dbz game.
I see why because of the fighting but I love it for the details in the moves energy attacks, the mini games in story, and having the best looking animated cutscenes of dbz of all time so far and my favorite finally flying nimbus in open world (first game),even though it's a map.

Funnily enough, Ultimate Tenkaichi is not considered part of the Tenkaichi series. The game only has the name due to winning a poll, but the Japanese name being "Ultimate Blast". The Tenkaichi games are called "Sparking" in Japan, so yeah.
Idk who told you that, But the game was counted whenever the sneak peek trailer was announced on stage, like for real look it up, the presenter counts ultimate Tenkaichi. It's disappointing
And back at it again. I never got around to playing this one but I was turned off at the time since I was buried in Raging Blast and its sequel as well as Tenkaichi 3, but I'm so glad I didn't play this one. Also, this made my day getting that notification that you had a new video out❤
also. You can somewhat mix the heavy and light attacks once you start the combo after selecting the green and purple, by pressing up, down, forward, and back button. And then, you can switch the combo attack.
0:02 Tbf The Japanese name is Ultimate Blast, so it's more of a Ultimate culmination of the Raging Blast series specifically, which made sense as the graphic feels more like Raging Blast. But yeah, this game sucks, who in the right mind change the gameplay into this. The QTE in this game just irresponsive, as I'm stuck at Great Ape Vegeta's fight because I can't pass the QTE there. If all they do is retaining the gamplay engine of Raging Blast 2, it would have make into another decent DB game. This game is the start of the low point DB games has hit, until Xenoverse revived the DB games. I always thought that at the very least, if they released the 3DS port of DB Heroes into the West, the DB video games wouldn't have suffered there as tha series was what revived the DB franchise as it brings more original contents.
I remember i played one round against my friend, lost, and just put the controller down It felt like i was just watching cinematics throughout the match
I never finished Hero Mode. Didn't matter what I tried, Red Shenron was unbeatable. I payed full price for this shit back in the day. Today I would never EVER buy a game full price again. And never on release. The reanimated cutscenes were neat though.
I have fond memories of this game actually. Primarily from the Hero Mode as the customization had a lot going for it if you went for completion. You could change your aura and Ki colors, your aura effects (I had flames) and even your own theme music! The music would change depending on the situation your character was in. Are you winning? Losing? Using your Burst mode or whatever? That made me hype back in the day. What was even more fun to me was that transforming into a Super Saiyan also changed your moveset and theme music too! In base form, I used a ton of Kamehamehas but when I turned Super Saiyan, I picked the most brutal cutscene moves I could find to give off that "I'm seriously mad now" feel. I had the theme music reflect that as well. Personally, I will not recommend this game to anyone because it IS boring for most. I had my fun because I learned how to cheese the CPU by taking advantage of how dumb and predictable it was. Not only that but certain skills and fighting styles opened up infinite combos. I did it to skip the grinding. Which there is a LOT of. My favorite memory is while I grinding and training under Janemba, my friend, another DBZ fan, was watching me play and he questioned what I was doing. I told him "I'm training under Janemba to learn his moves." He said it just looked like I was kicking his ass for no reason and that he was screaming at me to stop. We laughed as I continued to rip Janemba a new one until my PS3 died mid battle. I was devastated until my friend told me "He told you to stop, bro." We laughed and I went to get my console fixed. Bad game, good memories.
I remember voting for the Tenkaichi title because they couldn't come up with a new title and I guess I played myself lmao I REALLY love the graphics tho like AHHH
I played this game a lot as a kid was very excited for a dbz game with a character creator. I enjoyed it for the most part, but after I beat it I dropped it for Raging blast 2 lmao
I know it was from the vote, but the balls to have Tenkaichi in the name... They pretty much made an entire game around the dragon rush from Budakai 3 yet stripped it an made it worse somehow, glad you brought it up!!!
So the real kicker about all this is, there IS some rhyme & reason for the coinflip system, but it's... stupid. I believe Rush attacks gain more ki and/or spirit, while Heavy attacks deal more damage overall. However, yeah good luck trying to gauge what a CPU is going to try to do and see through them. One other funny bit of trivia: the name of this game came from a poll from Bandai Namco, with Ultimate Tenkaichi winning. The competition was (and I shit you not): "Tenkaichi Z", "Saiyan Rising", "Awakening Saiyans", and "Saiyan Warriors".
I wouldn't put alot of time into this as an adult but i don't regret playing it as a kid. Actually if the CaC mode had new game + i would probably play through it again.
This game was a guilty pleasure for me, i spent countless hours on it back in the day. I can acknowledge that the game gets repetitive real fast and shouldn't even be considered a Tenkaichi game
The game itself is bad because the gameplay relies mostly/heavily on Rock Scissors Paper fighting style approach, which it isn't very appealing for many reasons... the fighting factor in this DBZ game it can become very repetitive and boring, that's why many DBZ fans don't like this game in my opinion... 🤷🏻♂️✌️
I remember not being able to find this game at my local store when I still had my xbox. Was sad about it for a few years until I saw online that the game is literally rock paper and scissors Suddenly i don't feel bad anymore; rather it's disappointing that a game with (personally) nice character models ended up in this state
This was the very first annual big DBZ game I willfully skipped, and this marked the beginning of my disinterest in DBZ games moving forward. Spike didn't do too hot with RB2 and I knew they had one more game left in their license run, so I really thought they were going to pull out all the stops with this one and go out with a bang. I was soooo disappointed when I saw finalized trailers online
Funny enough, the type you choose in the oc story mode makes a huge difference, especiallyin the skills. You get fewer skills but the small build is excellent with ki Blast and ki resistance, meaning you Blast better, bring very good for boss fights to get through them faster. Large oc is good at physical attacks and taking physical hits which is good for meleeing the bot less, plus certain fighting styles give more range. Small oc has a Teen Gohan super where you could put an enemy in an infinite combo to death in spirit high. If found myself struggling the most with standard, sure there are a bunch of supers, but their tedious too difficult on getting. Plus some may not be the best or put you in a disadvantageous situation where the other two I found good supers that could be looped. Plus not excelling meant I was in battles longer and meant I was more likely to lose if I slipped up once
I just played this recently and I cannot for the life of me see why they did all the stupid stuff they did with this game. Numbers for health in a fighting game where you need a fast visual indicator to know how much damage you can still take? Shallow combat that goes against the skill based combat fighting games are supposed to have? I just don't get it!
ultimate tenkaichi feels like it should've been an arcade game. such a simple combat system would've been absolutely perfect for a pick up and play game down in the local arcade, but then they were told to port the game to ps360 and just didn't touch the main core of the gameplay at all
I genuinely cannot decide which was an overall worse experience between this game and sagas. Cuz at least with sagas I got to run around as one armed gohan lmao
Bought this when it came out, beat it and hated almost everything about it. Years later, I thought I was being too harsh so I bought it again and hated it more. Not as bad as sagas but definitely one of the worst dbz console games
Are you going to cover the peak of Dragon Ball gaming Dragon Ball Z for Kinect? That's going to be my next retrospective after the one for this month 😆
It technically isnt 50/50 due to effects of smash and rush combos, depending on the situation you can predict what the opponent does, but these effects essentially make the game so much lamer
I got this game ON LAUNCH DAY! I still remember watching the first trailer of this game. I never grew up playing Budokai Tenkaichi 3 like a lot of people but I did grow up with Raging Blast 1 & 2, and Tenkaichi Tag Team! I enjoyed them but one thing that I felt lacked was planet explosion cinematics. I loved watching ultimate attacks from other games on youtube. What’s funny is I never played Budokai 3 but god dam, the planet exploding scenes are 🤌🤌🤌 Tenkaichi 3 has it but…..it looks like ass, I’m sorry 😂 Anyway, the trailer showed a Goku’s ultimate and the planet exploding scene. THAT got me hyped! I imagined this game was going to be Raging Blast 2 but better 😭 I got my friend on the hype, he preordered it and on launch day, I went to his house so we can play it after school. Let’s just say we were both disgusted 🤣 He actually asked if I wanted it. Me being a kid that barely got games, I took it. I really really tried to like it. I almost finished both story modes but Omega cheats and I gave up. To this day, the graphics are amazing, the planet destruction scenes are still beautiful, especially the beam ones, it just looks really clean. (If you haven’t seen how they look, give it a search). The music is AMAZING. I feel like a lot of love did go into this game…. but they really should have left the combat to either Tenkaichi or Raging Blast, that’s why I’ll always end up disappointed at this game. It really was a let down 😔 I still don’t understand why ki is used to literally counter a super with your OWN SUPER yet you’re limited to using your OWN SUPER because it has a seperate bar.
I played this game in a GameStop in 2012 and it just sucked conpared to Dragon Ball Raging Blast 2. This game was trying to be either a return to Tenkaichi and failing at that or being an evolution of the Raging Blast series and failing at that too. I ended up buying Dragon Ball Z Budokai HD Collection instead as it had two Dragon Ball Z Budokai games that played great and what I remembered when I played it on my friend's PS2 back in 2006 except for changing the music to Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 2 music due to Keiji Yamaoko's termination for plagiarizing songs in the past to use for DBZ. It wouldn't be until Dragon Ball Xenoverse 1 in 2015 that I bought a brand new original Dragon Ball game and it is pretty fun to play.

also. You can somewhat mix the heavy and light attacks once you start the combo after selecting the green and purple, by pressing up, down, forward, and back button. And then, you can switch the combo attack.
I never beat the great ape cuz the button mashing was super tough 💀
Ah yes I used to call this game DBZ: Ultimate Rock Paper Scissors. Great retrospective as always 🤞🏽💯
I remember i played one round against my friend, lost, and just put the controller down
It felt like i was just watching cinematics throughout the match
When you prioritize spectacle over game play
I never finished Hero Mode. Didn't matter what I tried, Red Shenron was unbeatable. I payed full price for this shit back in the day. Today I would never EVER buy a game full price again. And never on release. The reanimated cutscenes were neat though.
Tenkaichi 2 will always be my personal favourite, 2000s will always be in my heart.
This is really close to the anime fights though
I love the use of sonic music in the background
i remember bragging to my friends about buying this game on release. boy did i look fucken stupid.
I knew you weren’t being serious when you said this was the best this series had to offer in the beginning 😂
This game had potential but focused on looks rather than gameplay
Yeah if they made a completely different game instead
Hidden, you've quickly rose to one of my favorite UA-camrs almost as fast as your channel is growing
Wow, thanks so much :D
I was actually thinking your were going to say this game gets a B for balls because it sucks! Boring works too though 🤣
Dude i think my cousin had this game and was my fist exposure to dbz. Then forgot about it untill @Clinkeroith played dbz games.
paused the video at 15:48...... dear lord 😂
It's always so insane when a company invents a money printing machine and throws it away because they feel the need to "innovate". Halo 4itus.
I played this game a lot as a kid was very excited for a dbz game with a character creator. I enjoyed it for the most part, but after I beat it I dropped it for Raging blast 2 lmao
I know it was from the vote, but the balls to have Tenkaichi in the name...
They pretty much made an entire game around the dragon rush from Budakai 3 yet stripped it an made it worse somehow, glad you brought it up!!!
man you deserve more views your content is really good
Any day with a new upload from hidden is a good ! Love you hidden
Ultimate Tenkaichi invokes in me the memory of me destroying my ps3 controller :)
Was sad about it for a few years until I saw online that the game is literally rock paper and scissors
Suddenly i don't feel bad anymore; rather it's disappointing that a game with (personally) nice character models ended up in this state
This was the very first annual big DBZ game I willfully skipped, and this marked the beginning of my disinterest in DBZ games moving forward.
Spike didn't do too hot with RB2 and I knew they had one more game left in their license run, so I really thought they were going to pull out all the stops with this one and go out with a bang. I was soooo disappointed when I saw finalized trailers online
i just cannot beat the giant bosses, the smashing the button phases are to much for me
the hero is in a parallel world not years after DBZ GT
What timing that you and dotodoya upload an ultimate tenkaichi based video all on the same day
Funny enough, the type you choose in the oc story mode makes a huge difference, especiallyin the skills.
I though you were going to make the Badong joke from Kung-Pow the moment you gave the "B" for boring ; that would've been neat, though haha
do you think goku ever thinks about how orange he looks
That's the only thing he thinks about
@@HiddenChannelpoor fella….
Ultimate Tenkaichi is like the Catfight Game in Yakuza 0
Dang all these sonic bangers playing in the back
the sec i saw the gameplay online as a kid i was like "nah im good G"
I just played this recently and I cannot for the life of me see why they did all the stupid stuff they did with this game. Numbers for health in a fighting game where you need a fast visual indicator to know how much damage you can still take? Shallow combat that goes against the skill based combat fighting games are supposed to have?
I just don't get it!
ultimate tenkaichi feels like it should've been an arcade game. such a simple combat system would've been absolutely perfect for a pick up and play game down in the local arcade, but then they were told to port the game to ps360 and just didn't touch the main core of the gameplay at all
W custom story mode though, enjoyed playing tournament online
I genuinely cannot decide which was an overall worse experience between this game and sagas. Cuz at least with sagas I got to run around as one armed gohan lmao
The "combat" in this game is made for 8 year olds. Which explains why so many of of loved this game as kids.
Bought this when it came out, beat it and hated almost everything about it. Years later, I thought I was being too harsh so I bought it again and hated it more. Not as bad as sagas but definitely one of the worst dbz console games
This game is why I am not interested in tenkaichi 4 until I see gameplay. Fool me once...
I loved this game . The music is so nostalgic .
Are you going to cover the peak of Dragon Ball gaming Dragon Ball Z for Kinect? That's going to be my next retrospective after the one for this month 😆
This game was a guilty pleasure when I was young. Not anymore.
I ENJOYED THE GAME BACK THEN THE NORMAL FIGHT AND THE GIANT FIGHT EVEN HERO MODE WAS FUN I UNLOCK ALL TROPHIES FOR THE GAME ON PS3
What’s funny is I never played Budokai 3 but god dam, the planet exploding scenes are 🤌🤌🤌
Tenkaichi 3 has it but…..it looks like ass, I’m sorry 😂 Anyway, the trailer showed a Goku’s ultimate and the planet exploding scene. THAT got me hyped! I imagined this game was going to be Raging Blast 2 but better 😭
I got my friend on the hype, he preordered it and on launch day, I went to his house so we can play it after school.
It really was a let down 😔
I still don’t understand why ki is used to literally counter a super with your OWN SUPER yet you’re limited to using your OWN SUPER because it has a seperate bar.
it still visually the best looking Dragon Ball game of all time the destruction of the map was the best of all Dragon Ball Z games
Fighting the giant characters in hero mode was so annoying.
Algorithm came in clutch for a change, never heard of you but this is a decent review. Subbed
