THANK YOU for showing how to remove a stopper with a screw underneath!!! I have watched SO many videos trying to figure out how to get mine off, and your video is the first to show this type!!! I didn't even think to look for a screw there. I was starting to consider calling a plumber.
Yeah I was having the same problem! Mine is still stopped up unfortunately. I just got a new snake thing and already broke it. I'm going to try the bsoda and vinegar again I guess!
I was upset when I saw my clogged drain I watched like 3 different U-tube everyone bathtub drain is different I can't believe I actually unclogged my own drain Thanks A Lot
Thanks, Justin! I have been trying to figure out how to get that stopper off... I had no idea there was a little screw there. Seems simple now, but I never though of it. The baking soda/vinegar trick was greatly appreciated as well. You helped save me a lot of time and money. Love and blessings, sir!
I've been dealing with a slow draining clog for about a year - it was like that when I bought this house. I cannot tell you how afraid I am to do this. I'm going to need a bag for my vomit and those long glove vets use when checking on livestock ugh Anyway, I appreciate the video and stuff...I'll be sure not to loose the required pieces and barf in a bag rather than the drain
@@justinhillsten1194 Well...I couldn't get the cap off the drain - and I tried! So I ended up using the Phillips as a shovel. I got up and out as much as I could and it was gross. Anyway, I poured scalding hot water, baking soda and vinegar down - waited about 15-30 minutes and ran the water. I drained better than before. I then found another drain cleaner in my garage - the Prof Amos stuff. I dug again and poured that in overnight. Its draining much, much better now. I'll retry the cap removal thing and repeat the whole process again - when it begins to back up again. I do appreciate your video and instruction that I'll put to use next time! Thanks...Stay safe.
Thank you so much dude, there are vids out there but it didn't seem like any of them had my kinda drain but you. I did it and my drain works like new, omg man thanks again. You really saved me on this
Thank you very very much, I’d try so many different ways and drain liquids and nothing had work until now, I did you method and it worked, it me feel like a champion, thanks again and keep up your amazing work.
Thank you for the comment so that I can clarify some misconceptions out there! 1) Hair makes its way into your plumbing system regardless of wether you use our product. 2) The crossbars in the drain are not meant to catch hair, as their sole purpose is to give you a place to screw in a bathtub stopper for taking baths. 3) When sending hair and water through a clean pipe, the hair floats on the surface of the water and travels through the plumbing system with ease. 4) Hair is okay for your municipal plumbing system and is easily dealt with in water treatment facilities. 5) Hair will not directly cause a clog, but it will certainly let you know the status of your pipes. We strongly recommend using a drain cleaning product or service before installing a DrainFunnel and warn against use in cases where the homeowner frequently requires clog removal deeper than the surface level of your drain. 6) If you use a sump pump or have your own septic system please check with your user manuals before allowing excess hair to go down the drain. Hope that answers some questions out there. Cheers!
Hi Justin! I promise I’ll delete this in a few hours. But based on what you’re saying, if my family never stops the drain for a bath and only take showers, shouldn’t we just move the crossbar piece? So for people who love bathing the funnel makes sense, but otherwise let the hair drain as fast as it can no? Thanks in advance!
Well I just saw what happens when you remove the crossbar piece leaving the drain open. It is aesthetically unacceptable and the wife will not be happy. I see why drain funnel was made😂😅
Thanks for the video! I can't seem to get that pesky screw to let go so I can remove the nob stopper but, I think I've cleared as much of the hair as I can with a hanger. Now I'll try using baking soda and vinegar. I really didn't want to use draino so I'm glad I saw this. I also like the funnel but what happens when I want to take a bath? Reinstall the stopper I guess?
Thank you! Happened on Christmas. Good luck getting a plumber on Christmas! You saved my ass, Oh yeah, Btw, Chrisitopher Walken is my house guest. He's okay, but never again; he's right behind me yelling over my shoulder "WE need more butt crack! WE need more butt crack!"
I have a brand new manufactured home I've watched at least a dozen videos and not one of them shows me how to remove my pop up stopper! If I figure it out I'll post my own video
So how do you close the drain if your not putting the original closure in the hole? Your giving up the bathtub and would only be able to use it for as shower.
Is it better to allow the baking soda / vinegar to sit in the P trap and do its thing before flushing with hot water, or do you want to flush it down immediately WHILE the reaction is in process?
Really the vinegar is the star of the show. If I could remake the video I would add vinegar and let sit in the p trap to dissolve some of the build up. Vinegar is a weak acid and the baking soda is a weak base. When you combine them they just neutralize each other and form some water and carbon dioxide.
I'd rather the hair get caught in the hair trap so I can remove it instead of it getting caught further down where I can't reach it. Also... How am I supposed to screw the cap back on with that thing in the way?
To each his own! As an engineer I was very skeptical of my own idea and tested it for years before ever considering selling a product. With a DrainFunnel installed you will not be able to screw the stopper back on. We are considering selling a drain cover compatible with our product, but you can find plenty of good ones on amazon at the moment.
The crossbars are apart of the drain stem. The stopper usually comes out and so does the threaded rod. In some cases the threaded rod will not come out.
The entire design of these tub stoppers is the problem. They are LITERALLY designed to have this problem, because they allow hair to pass through underneath the stopper top unobstructed and get caught on the bars that lie beneath. I mean whoever came up with such a system must have had this problem in mind. More than likely whoever invented it wanted to give plumbers jobs, which he probably did. This is so ridiculous. A much better type of drain is a gridded drain, that is just a small circular, linear grid. The grid stops the hair from draining all together, thus preventing all this shit from happening. Proof? Ive been living in my apartment for 6 months, and it has exactly the same drain as you do. My parents have the gridded drain I mentioned. I am the only one using my bathroom. At mt parents house, when I lived with them, I was sharing the bathroom with my father. In 6 months my tub has gone from usable and adequate, to filing up to the top with water when I shower and requiring anywhere from several hours to a day to drain. At my parents house, almost never did the tub drain need to be unclogged. And I shared it with my dad.
Try baking soda and vinegar..... they also sell a snake clog remover at Wal mart for about 15 bucks. Try that first before spending 345 dollars on a plumber.
@@justinhillsten1194 yeah I'd been cleaning some substrate for my gecko tank and a load went down the drain. That's how it got blocked. My mam ended up blocking it with a plunger

Now the hair can clog further, where it's harder to get to. Good job.
Needle nose pliers were made JUST for this kind of job! Do my shower drain twice a year & the pliers are a God send! Saves me a lotta $$ on a plumber!
I pulled out the drain first ..pull out some dirt and cleaned it with baking soda and vinegar….followed by the plunger .

Were you extracting all those hairs from where the rod was?
Also, even if you still have hairs in there that you can no longer reach, would it still be okay to do the baking soda vinegar drainage?
