Pasco County, Florida - On Tuesday, March 23, Pasco Sheriff's Office received a call about a car that was just stolen. Deputies immediately responded to the area and K9 Dep. Miller and K9 Buster began tracking the suspects. For approximately 30 minutes, the team tracked through a wooded area and a swamp, ultimately locating one of the subjects in a bush. A short time later, the second subject was located by deputies as well and both were arrested for the vehicle theft.
A K9’s sense of smell is so incredible, they even have the ability to track scents over water and can decipher between specific scents to track. That means they can track a specific person through a crowd. You see an example of this at the beginning of the track, when K9 Dep. Miller has K9 Buster track from the car’s driver side, past other deputies.

If you think about it. Most officers do not need to go to far from there cars, unlike k9 officers have to jump fences, climb ladders, run with there dog while wearing a bullet proof vest, gun belt with taser and hand cuffs or two and radio.... So ya k9 officers need to be in really good shape as they are there for the suspects that do not cooperate with the officers and want to fight, hide or run..... All officers should be in shape, but k9 and swat need it the most as there specialty jobs needs it more then just patrol officers..
Bloodhounds are notorious for NOT STOPPING. I have seen handlers have to physically carry their dogs and secure them because they won't stop. The dogs aren't exactly teacup Chihuahua size, either! They can also work off something barely scented. I've been lucky enough to participate in bloodhound training and it is truly amazing to watch!
Bloodhounds are badass trackers! He kept the scent even through the swampy areas. The way the track is so different from the German Shepherds and Belgian Malinois K9s though. So chill. Those breeds go nuts when they find the perps, but the bloodhound is like-ok, my work is done. You take it from here. K9 handlers have to be in good shape to keep up!

Dogs are amazing. When my daughter first went to college we brought our family dog with us to pay her a visit.
