The warrant specified that the driver had personal property amounting to $7,911, which came into Officer Chapman's possession as he transported the driver to the University City Division Team Office. According to the warrant, once at the office, Officer Chapman requested another officer to transport the driver to jail. oh he was way more than smart. he was not only calm but he tricky provoked the sergant enough to show the inside of the car without escalating it to much. a tiny bit less and this would have ended nowhere. a bit more and it would ended escalated nowhere again. its infuriating that the cops would absolutly negate his claims and wont even take a peek. only after they exposed their comrade by accident on bodycam they had to take action. without cams on, withoiut accidently getting that on cam the officer would have gotten away with this. makes you wonder how often they do get away with it. that asside that money is gone either way. the guy in red will see not a single dime ever again. it will be civil forfit and he can sue for 50k trying to get 8k back
I’m not a cop, but I did do security while I served in the Marine Corps. The first thing you do is watch a criminals eyes and if you watch this cop’s eyes, he’s clearly stealing this guy’s money.
A lot of departments have policies that they have to keep their bodycam on when they have large sums of money in evidence until it's counted and properly documented. If that was a policy that cops camera would've been on and maybe he wouldn't have stole any of it.

I didn't like his constant apologizing but I could understand why he was doing it, he did it too come across as not threatening, as he feared looking the way he did, with handcuffs on hand, going against the cops words with his own contradictory words, accusing one even for criminal mischief would be seen as "acting up" ...but in reality the one with handcuffs was the truthteller and the one with the badge and gun was the criminal.

He's trying to avoid "accidentally falling into the doorknob" a few dozen times once the cops get him somewhere away from the cameras. There's obviously a lot of ego from the cops who allegedly weren't also thieves (though they sure did everything they could not to let it come out), so if he didn't soothe their egos and try and keep it purely procedural they'd likely get their revenge later.

You can tell because not only was his hand shaking, but you could tell he was breathing heavily and could hardly talk when he said “no” twice. No because her job is to know exactly what is supposed to be there, and then check that its there, and he wouldnt answer her on a simple thing (from her perspective), that could have solved everything immediately.. And ofcourse you dont get thrown in jail for stealing cash, you first get stopped from doing the crime, then you get questioned, and then you await a trial.

I spent 25 years as a CO in county, and I have zero issues with how this detainee carried himself. He actually pled his case extremely respectfully, and had a right to speak for himself. I've seen detainees come in and act the complete fool, and although he argued, he did everything right. Shame on that cop.

The cutoff in IL used to be 500 bucks worth of stolen money or merchandise for it to be considered a felony and warrant an arrest. Worked retail for a number of years and saw a fair share of epic action, theft and catch and release.

What's even worse, upon a second viewing, the female cop knew what was going on and was trying to distract the detainee. All she had to do was shut her mouth and let the other cop answer himself who is clearly acting suspicious. She's a piece of shit too.
The detectives came in after the sergeants left. They interviewed him, and then after the interview he was placed under arrest. The sergeants didn't arrest him because it could have been perceived as a conflict of interest.
Every ticket or arrest he has done before needs to be investigated and then prosecuted for the other thefts he has committed and I believe that this is not his first theft.
He also pulled over and complied and was polite the whole time. Probably just made some dumb choices. A firearms offense, who can blame him guns are fun.

That’s the result of conditioning over years and years from physical and psychological abuse by police towards black Americans where they’re meant to constantly be fearful of police even when the police are in the wrong. Bodycams are exposing so much police corruption every year. Prior to cameras, no one would’ve ever believed this happened. I spent 25 years as a CO in county, and I have zero issues with how this detainee carried himself. He actually pled his case extremely respectfully, and had a right to speak for himself. I've seen detainees come in and act the complete fool, and although he argued, he did everything right. Shame on that cop.

The cutoff in IL used to be 500 bucks worth of stolen money or merchandise for it to be considered a felony and warrant an arrest. Worked retail for a number of years and saw a fair share of epic action, theft and catch and release.

The detectives came in after the sergeants left. They interviewed him, and then after the interview he was placed under arrest. The sergeants didn't arrest him because it could have been perceived as a conflict of interest.
