Maureen Solomon a health guru of the 70's and 80's, (now deceased), taught that the inside of the banana peel is very healing.,she learned that from a tribal African man when she was there learning African healing traditions. The man's son was bitten by one of those big spiders and the man peels a banana and bound the banana peel skin inside of the peel down, upressed against the bite,,and the Father bound it up. Left it on all the next day and to Maureen's surprise,,the vicious spider bite was completely healed. I've used them for the same thing,,healing skin woumds and burns and it does work.
I throw all banana peels in the flower beds. I've never thought of washing peels off for spray that might be on them. But I do use snips of them on sores or knife wounds taped on.

Ok. But You didn’t say you “ate” the banana peels! Over the years, I’ve personally known many African born Africans. Though they spoke of and prepared lots of African dishes, never did they talk of “eating” peels of bananas. Nor do I know of any African American dishes where bananas peels were “eaten”. So, this is new to me! Wow!

The bananas should be a bit greener, because it's less sweet and easer to use but the ripe ones will do OK as you said!

You can use plaintains, which are larger and firmer and usually green. If you peel and slice them in circles, they can be lightly browned in a frying pan with olive oil or coconut oil and served with eggs for breakfast or lunch.

@The Casino stop thinking I'm lying bc I eat it with no problems. Do you think I poop out an entire intact banana peel??
Once I fry it up on the stove it becomes much softer, the only downside to me is the somewhat bitter taste, so I use a recipe I found that soaks it in soy sauce and sugar before hand.
Also, I do not eat that thick stem or the tough bottom. Just the peel

they are high in fiber, if your diet is low in fiber usualy, than it might give your trubble, otherwise as long as you ingest enough liquid as well there should not be a problem. Banana peels are used by many people wich no problems at all ^^.
Just make sure no one who is supposed to eat them has a latex allergy.

Lovely post. Gonna rethink throwing out my banana peels! Also, I'm curious about the skillet you used to cook your banana peel dish. I have been looking for a good all purpose skillet & have been told by a friend that she is very satisfied with a skillet she has that has a similar granite-like interior. Could you tell me what is the brand of your skillet and are you satisfied with its performance? Thanks for your kind assistance.

i am actually thinking about trying this in a slow cooker to see what it does to the texture. I love the fact that when I go to the grocery store and have to buy the prepackaged organic bananas....they won't go to waste now. My hubby has CKD and can't have bananas and so that means that they are all for me! LOL. Now there is no waste.

I saute them and put into curry dishes. I also saute them and then add them to pancakes with chopped nuts like pecan or walnut. If you check out here on YT Chef Jana, she has been teaching how to use green bananas per my request. I had gone to a vegan restaurant where I had a delicious meal of banana stew and was surprised that it was more of a beefy flavor for lack of a better description and wasn't sweet as I had expected. They stopped making it....and I had a craving...LOL.

The majority of organic fertilisers & pesticides are not vegan, many contain animal blood & fish by product ;o

    • @fionatanzer5270
      @fionatanzer5270 4 роки тому

The plant doesn't pass animal blood etc on to you. The plant and its symbiotic fungi or bacteria break the animal products to their components like nitrogen and the plants absorb that. It is food for the plant.
Plants along with bacteria and fungi have always broken down dead animal bodies (and dead insects and birds and worms and other dead plants) that's where they get much of their nutrition that they can't get by photosynthesis)
Then they convert those basic nutrients into plant proteins - the same way that you convert the basic nutrients from plant back into animal proteins (ie your own). It's called a cycle.
Don't deny plants their nutrition just because you want to be a purist. If you eat a plant which has "eaten" an animal product you are not eating an animal.
Either that our you must accept that when you eat a plant you are eating everything that the plant has absorbed from its environment, including dead plants and animals and animal faeces and urine.

I use ripe (pealed) bananas in raw vegan cakes/pies or in banana bread. One of my favorite desserts is frozen banana "ice cream". The bananas are frozen, then put into a food processor. I add cocoa (fair trade) or carob powder and a few drops of stevia. A also love them processed with frozen cherries. Mind the multi ingredient sause ! 'I like my taco meat a little bit wet! I bet she does! You don't tast the banana peels! Well you may didn't taste the 'dog shit' either.
