What about egg shells in vinegar, also known as Calphos: Calcium phosphate? Or the JADAM organic farming method? Like fermented plant juice, FPJ, or Fermented fruit juice, and Lactobacillus serum?
Fertilizers can not be taken up by the plant unless they are water soluble. Egg shells alone are useless until they break down in the soil. However, if you blend egg shells, dry them in the oven, then soak the eggshell powder in vinegar for a week, you make Calcium acetate which is readily available for plants.
Thanks for the advise! God bless!🙏😃
@@xfiles4792 A WEEK?!
After decomposed it can be taken by plant
@@dipdip1985 Yes, I said that. "Egg shells alone are useless until they break down in the soil".
I use eggs shell powder with vinegar than mixed it with water, work like charm, you don't need to wait that long
I am the type to make everything into powder even potassium from banana
What doesnt work for you may work for my plants. We have different approach towards our plants. For Aroids, they live and thrive in forests and by giving them habitat as close as possible to their natural environment is beneficial. For example, in may garden, I dont throw away dried leaves. I just let them stay on the ground and decompose. Any peel of fruit we just throw away and let decompose. Plants are thriving. Same as egg shells, after Crush ung we just throw them away to the soil. These are all organic, meant to decompose and help those living plants. Dont say these are myths because before the invention of fertilizers, plants thrive because of these organic materials. These organic materials can help give nutrients to the plants but the ultimate thing is the root will find ways to balance. Let the roots find nutrients in the soil.
I’m sitting on my porch, looking at my hard, wet, clay. It grows weeds. I’m sure it’s going to be ok with my powdered egg shells. It’s that or the landfill or back in the water (via sewer). Great video! I just watched this. I have a ton of eggshells! 😂 Baked and pulverized! I’m spreading them around the yard. Brightest Blessings 🌟💫
I've read that growing Marshmallow will benefit clay soil as the roots help break up the hard soil
I know it's been a year, but I must ask as I also have compacted clay that is wet about 1.5-2 feet down. It's honestly like there was a riverbed underneath my 2 acres. I even pulled out 2 crawdads while digging out a hole for my tree this weekend.
So, I'm just asking what has been successful for you? I'm SE Oklahoma, so Aug/Sept are very draughty & spring is very rainy.
I’ve had a vermicomposter for years but now I don’t have space for that, didn’t even know where to get worms , it made me sad so I compost straight into my plants pot : Everytime I make a smoothie, before I wash the blender, I blend the fruits peels and other organic vegetables peels with some water to reduce them into a powdered slurry to speed up their decomposition, then I pour in my Monstera planter outdoor on the balcony. I also throw in rest of soup milk yoghurt, residus of carrot juice / soy milk / oil infusion pressing. I spray with garden hose to spread the residus evenly into the soil.
Must say : it’s 2 large 60 x30 x 30 cm planters that can handle to absorb a certain quantity of organic trash chopped into powder each week. But not too much at once or it will starts smelling funny or rot ! Best to bury them into the soil surface but I’m too lazy for that. Now I add trichoderma + enzymes composting blend made to speed up composting process. So it’s not a small pot, I would not do that in a small indoor pot. In small pots, I pour a lighter version with less organic matter or rice water.
With hot tropical weather, everything decompose well and quite fast within 1-2 weeks.
And guess what : the earthworms population has skyrocketed in the large planter. They crawl out after I water when it’s too wet and I can see there is a lot ! So I have made a vermicomposter straight in the pot without needing to find worms, from 1-2 red worms that were hiding in the soil of the plants I bought in shop. They are small thin red worms, not as big as the species used in vermicomposting, not the big ones that aerate the deeper layers of soil and so they may not have the same functions, maybe not the best species to eat compost fast. But I guess they have eaten the organic trash.
Decomposition process is largely helped by “oc sen” Vietnamese white tiny micro snails, although they are usually listed as undesirables parasites to get rid of, because they can attack young leaves sprouts, but they are also listed as composting agents, producing Nitrogens in their poop after digestion and the worms eat that back.
Eggshells are used in vermicomposting (and protection witchcraft ) so I had collected 2-3 kg eggshells over the years not knowing exactly what to do with such quantity. They are sold as fertilizers in Vietnam so I pour that into the pots. Crushed Eggshells don’t decompose fast for sure but they did disappear a little bit and they don’t repel the snails at all.
The Monstera particularly liked the residus of green aromatic herbs leaves after pressing infused oil.
So it works, we can use our bananas & vegetables peels straight into the pots and it will be absorbed by the plants after the fauna and bacteria decomposed them. We just have to make sure it does not rot, so blend it into powder, bury it, use trichoderma, find worms.
This is officially the longest post I’ve ever seen on UA-cam
I powderized the egg shell before puting it to the soil if the plant.and i think its perfectly working for me.
Calcium is not needed. Tell that to my tomato plants the have end bloom rot. Calcium and magnesium are what is needed to prevent this from happening.
Not sure if you watched the video or just interpreted the title. There are better ways to incorportae calcium in your soil. And magnesium will not help blossom end rot. Blossom end rot is calcium deficiency not magnesium.
Logical explanation 👍👍
No , i had thrown a banana peel using blender to my plants and starts blooming and boost my plants in few days , im so happy with the results
Thank you for the video.
You're most welcome. Thanks for watching.🙂
True, However... If you grind egg shells down to a powder, and mix into the soil 3-4 months before planting, that will be enough time for the powder to break down.
Very scientific. Thanks a lot for your video. God bless
Always welcome
Thank you v very helpful ☺️
You're welcome! Glad it was helpful. 🙂
Eggshells are made almost entirely of calcium carbonate, which is exactly what makes up our nails, teeth, and bones. They're also loaded with protein, magnesium, selenium, strontium, and other compounds that are said to be good for bones and joints.
True.. Thanks for watching.
Some suggest leaving broken eggshells (after removing the protein film attached) in brewed white vinegar for about 4 days. This is supposed to provide dissolved calcium which is immediately available for the plant roots to absorb. The point of toxicity from calcium is worth noting. Would appreciate feedback, anyone who has tried this!
I soak my egg shells in vinegar and use the liquid @ 1 tablespoon per gallon of water, has been amazing
@@annamerlin9666 Thanks. Great to have the point confirmed.
@@annamerlin9666thank you what is the ratio eggshells to vinegar?
What is the tie-in with the worms and castings? Should I bake and pulverize the eggshells and add them to the worm bed, or would that still add too much calcium? it is best to throw the eggshells away? I would think that some powdered eggshells would be good for the worms' gizzards or whatever they have. I would also think that peat based potting soil is devoid of a lot of things, including calcium, but IDK. Also, I am told that citrus peels are not so good to add to worm beds, but I see lots of them in one of your pictures. Can you elaborate about both situations.
HI there, eggshells take a lot of time to decompose. Crushing them can speed up the decomposition process in the compost pile but still takes time. Unless the eggshells decompose to release Calcium ions, it is does not add any value to the soil nutrient profile. Citrus peels can be added to the compost pile. Citrus peels are a valuable addition to compost because they contain essential nutrients and organic matter that can enrich the final compost. Composting works best when you have a balanced mix of green (nitrogen-rich) and brown (carbon-rich) materials. Citrus peels are considered green materials due to their nitrogen content. Ensure you have enough brown materials like dried leaves, straw, or cardboard to balance the compost. If the compost becomes too acidic, throw in some crushed eggshells or agricultural lime to neutralise the acidity.
👏👏👏👏Very informative,a scientific approach,love it 👍😊

What about egg shells in vinegar, also known as Calphos: Calcium phosphate? Or the JADAM organic farming method? Like fermented plant juice, FPJ, or Fermented fruit juice, and Lactobacillus serum?
Eggshells do work and like you said it takes a long time to break down, very unlikely that you could over do it.because it takes so long to break down and the cycle of most plants is short.i use molasses to encourage the bugs to break it down
I heard you can use white vinegar to break down the egg shells and then mix it with a gallon of water.
Can I add them to my compost pile?
Yep😅
Yes... You can...
Yes, but crush them first. I have a two year old compost pile I've been using and there are still chunks of eggshell in it. They take a long time to fully break down.
So the fastest and sure way is just buy liquid fertiliser and all is good. In the same time you support the local industry.
Nice presentation thanks

I always have heard you need to burn the banana peels into ash for the potassium to become available.

Thanks sister for sharing so much news out there.😁👍👏🌹
No problem 😊
Boiling eggshells wouldn't you just use the water that has calcium in it? When you add vinegar, doesn't that kill pathogens? If you eat food with salmilina you drink vinegar to counteract. If adding to the plant, do plants actually get salminila or just if you get the egg solution on the plant and then eat??? If grinding and digestion the only time you really need to sterilize by baking?
Very informative
Thank you so much.🙂
Adding crushed eggshells then would act like oystershell flour , releasing nutrients over time. Something you'd add every few years

good day mam,may I ask if it's ok to just boil all the kitchen waste in water together?then the water will be for watering and the rest just for decompose?thank you!
You can use the very diluted form of the tea prepared from the kitchen scraps.
Hi, is Onion peels water fertilizer helpful? Pls guide
Liquid fertilizers made by boiling kitchen waste are more readily bio-available than raw unfinished waste. You can use onion peel water.👍🙂
@@Homemakr Thank you so much ❤️

Thank you. I am glad information is useful
so whay if i crushed the eggshell before putting in the pot
Someone said crushed egg shells deteriorate in soil feeding the plant and disappear. I did an experiment put crushed egg shells in the soil of 1 plant a year later when I was putting the plant in a larger pot they were still there completely in tact
Eggshells generally take approx. 2 years or even more to decompose and release the Calcium ions in the soil so that its easily absorbable by the plant roots. Crushing the eggshells into powdered form and throwing them in the compost pile for decomposition will speed up the decomposition process by the microbes present in the compost. Throwing the eggshells directly in the soil will not help the plant or soil but it will only attract pests.

Thanks didn't know it took 2 years but it was a fun experiment. Thanks for the links to your other vids very helpful
All negative, nothing constructive. Yes, understand plants need a balanced diet like us so can we provide coffee grind for the N, black soldier fly frass for the P and banana skin water for the K to make their fertilizing complete. Understand the frass already contained all three but I was hoping to achieve zero waste kitchen to make use of the grind from my morning coffee and I love eggs so have plenty of shell to be reused. Any suggesting how to increase the P content instead? May God bless use to reduce kitchen waste!🙏🙄
Hi there, The best way to reduce or reuse the kitchen scraps is by composting them properly. The kitchen solid waste needs to be decomposed by the microbes so that the nutrients are bioavailable for the roots to absorb easily. Egg shells take a very long time to decompose. If not decomposed properly, they are of no use to the plants. To speed up the decomposition process, you can crush the egg shells before throwing them in your compost pile which will help the microbes to decompose them quickly.
No gardener throws eggshells whole into their plant, without crushing them or decomposing them. Nobody thinks ONLY calcium or potassium is a magic potion. All of us know that plants need a proper mix of various fertilisers. Eggshells are stars of organic gardening. They work well. You must be a vegetarian to have made this presumptuous video.
I appreciate your understanding that eggshells should not be thrown directly into the soil but must be decomposed first. Unfortunately, not everyone shares this knowledge. Social media is filled with short videos and posts demonstrating the application of eggshells straight into the soil without any decomposition. This widespread misconception prompted me to create a video to debunk this myth and provide accurate information on the proper use of eggshells in gardening. Thanks for watching.
@@HomemakrYes you are right. You are a great gardener

Thats true. Thank you so much. 🙂
I read your information that are not effective and it can cause damaged to plant,so I'm asking what is the best way to make plants grow faster and healthy
Provide them with soil rich in Organic matter ( Manure, Worm casting, compost, blood and bone etc.). Do not Over fertilize.
Really a sensible vlog
Outstanding
Thank you so much.
Thanks your for info 🙏
My pleasure
Very useful information. U brilliantly presented.
Thank you so much. ☺
Then what is the best way to reuse egg shells? Now we know not what to do with them.
You can boil the crushed egg shells and use the water after it cools down. You can compost the crushed egg shells and then use it. Powdered egg shells will take less time to decompose as compared to the other.
Thank you @Homemakr
Is kiwi/cherry peel good for plant?
Any kitchen waste is good for plants As far as its composted and then used.
I use ash to deter slugs and snails
Thanks so much mam! I was thinking about adding eggshells to my plants, but after seeing your video my "brainwashed" mind has come back to normalcy. Phew! You saved me and the plants which grow in my home.
Hi Anupama, Thank you for watching. I am glad that the video was helpful to you.🙂
What works for you might not work for me and vice versa. I use grinding eggshell and banana peals for my plants especially watermelon and they did fantastically well.
She didn't mention grinding eggshells into powder. Serious oversight. It works for my garden. Yes, your plants do need a lot of nutrients,
Shredded cardboard and straw for mulch is helpful. Less weeds, holds water and enriches soil. Use common sense and study organic gardening. We CAN DO BEYTER FOR OUR GARDENS.
@@inubaye2030 i agree with you.
Yeah if you need calcium immediately I would suggest to just go to the store or nursery and grab a bottle of liquid calcium additives, it might be labeled as rot stop or something like that.
thank you so much for this video info its very uselful so if im right so i should use those nutirents as liquid stuff if i crushed the egg in to liquid is that ok
Yes, You can boil the crushed egg shells and use that water for plants.
How about egg shell powder.
Very effective. Use it
Powder your egg shells and throw them in your compost bin. Let the egg shells decompose to give out Calcium ions that the plant roots can absorb.

Calcium is a macronutrient. It is not a micronutrient .
Actually calcium is a micronutrient. Plants only needs a very small amount only if the plants are showing signs of deficiency, it shouldn't be used for regular feeding.
Macronutrients: fats, protein and carbs.
Micronutrients: literally like everything else.
