Red should have pointed up at least on the second placement
Good game! I thought you had that. Road building to wheat port instead of 3:1 port would have given more chances, but I think you would have gotten same result. Table might’ve worked to plow as well. Best of luck on the next one
You played really good. They were all being easily moved though
5/9/10 and 8/3/10 was a better set up. you were way to levered to the ore--your initial production (16 pips) with those picks was really bad. but I agree 4th pick was pretty bad. also don't think the free road was worth taking 5/9/12 over 5/9/10.
That setup is better in general but it also just loses every time to orange and is extremely mid. The setup we chose allows us to fight orange aswell as having potential to explode with lucky rolls/dev cards - which we did. If red is a better player in this game we probably end up winning.
5/9/12 is also needed because of the lack of brick and 6/3 is a huge expansion for us 10 wheat is our block for most of game.
@@ThePhantomCatan I think production and ports is a very underrated setup and less mid than you think. you also wouldnt be blocked/robbed for large parts of the game -- and youd be able to table to talk your way out of robs (e.g. "I have no chance at road or army"). 21 pips of production with a 3:1 port and balanced resources/flying under the radar is highly underrated. and you'd be bouncing the robber between the 8 and 4 ore all game (as would red and black).

@@ThePhantomCatan agree to disagree. I think you have more winning chances than the setup you took which wasn’t enough production. The reality is 4th position likely was finishing 2nd no matter what. But your odds are always better than more production.
@@delishadish there isn’t much difference in production once 6/3 happens and we start on a 3/1 and city very fast. 8/3/10 and 9/5/10 you are flooded with sheep with no great expansions, no real road game and no real advantage anywhere with zero explosiveness. 10 is critical to the game and you are so very screwed without it. Orange will block it to death most likely and based on reds first pick I would much rather be the one playing ows against orange.

You took a bad setup but got lucky with the dice. 9-5-10, 8-10-3 would have been a way better setup.
Phantom what do you think of 6-11-12 and 5-9-10. Try to take road long term and get a little bit of flexibility with the wheat and wood ports. It might be too weak but that’s what I saw before you settled on 8-3
I Think most other plays are pretty dead and would need a mono to make it winning.
What do you think about 4/11/6 and 5/9/10 pointing towards the wheat and wood ports? You get some of the best wheat and wood, plus you are on every number but 8. Later you can expand to 8 and 9/12 and go for road. Orange likely places 8/10 for their second settlement and is now competing with black a bit for space. Or is this setup too slow?
It’s interesting at least and I think as 4th here you have to play something risky so I like it in that sense but with zero brick on the board and it being very scarce and likely no trades I think it’s probably to slow but I do like it
