Pilot Shows His Skills at Sharpness

A pilot of the ship Ocean Sachiel shows his skills as he carefully swings the vessel around in Sharpness Docks. The Ocean Sachiel leaves the berth to lockout before proceeding out into the River Severn.

I lived at Sharpness for a decade and was always impressed by the skill and accurate seamanship of pilots and masters entering and leaving port.
For years I was a port agent in Southampton and elsewhere so I’m wondering why this vessel is flying the Union Flag as a courtesy and not the correct Red Ensign. I’ve noticed this lapse of etiquette several times here and in East Anglian ports - always amongst short-sea freighters.

Hi Mike, yes, flags, I have noticed it is more common these days to fly the Union Flag and not the Red Ensign. Standards to day are suspect!
