DJI Mic Overview and First Impressions

- In this video, I am giving a complete overview and demonstration of the new DJI Wireless Mic. For a first-gen product, DJI had done an incredible job with both the quality and the features of this wireless microphone system. Some of the new features are so important to me and my workflow and that is why I am switching to it from the Rode Wireless Go II.

I don't know why I'm even watching this haha. I've already been using this unit for weeks. But I like this channel and the simple straightforward presentation. Thanks for the great content. I learned one thing I didn't know before about the start stop recording remote feature for mobile and drone controller. Thanks again.
same
Thank you for the support I appreciate it
DJI has been making great stuff all around. Their engineers are amazing! Thanks for making this video. Cheers! 😀
Indeed 👍
Great review Shawn! I ordered my DJI Mic System a few weeks ago through Amazon and just received it! I am also impressed with all of the onboard features and controls. It is great to not have to use an app. My next UA-cam video will be with the new DJI Mic System and I cannot wait to compare the quality to the Boya Wireless Mic System (BYWM8) that I have been using. -Have a blessed week 👍🏻
That’s great thanks for sharing your feedback. I’m actually really enjoying the new set up
Great review! The BIGGEST CON is that if you use the Transmitter as a stand alone unit it splits up your audio clips in 30 minute increments. THIS SUCKS as I hate having to piece multiple audio clips together in multicam timeline. DJI please give us the OPTION to record with unlimited time as 1 track.
That’s strange. Doesn’t happen to me.
@@peterfritzphoto Did they release a firmware update?
Absolutely fantastic... Solved all my doubts
Thank you for the heads up on this one Shawn. I ordered one from B&H and expect it to be delivered tomorrow. So many great features with this system.
Nice, you’re going to be quite pleased with it I think.
I had no idea this was a thing but this is so cool
Bought and returned already has the DJI Mic got a 3 frame delay (actually i n see the same in one of your videos) recorded on 3 different cameras all at 4k 60fps (from Panasonic AG-CX10, to Dji Action 2 to a Samsung Note 20 Ultra) and to sync the audio only in post production, DJI is aware , engineers couldn't solve the problem, they offered coupons twice first $80 dollars after $120 for the inconvenience, that I refused, after almost a month they offer to return for a new unit (no thank you) , returned myself to BHphoto where I bought for a full refund....after 6 months of waiting for DJI MIc to be available , was truly a disappointment
Thanks for sharing! I'll consider this before buying. Always looking for insightful comments like these. I can deal with the delay post prod, but it would definitely be a headache if I have a lot of recordings/samples.
Good overview of the DJI Mic, and congrats on finally getting it in for review. From what I've seen it already seems to best wireless Mic of its kind. I'm tempted to order one, but I'm resisting for now. Thanks for sharing.
Great tips . I just received my dji mic so I’ll sure put it to the test. Thanks for sharing.
DJI certainly leaped-frogged RODE!
This is such a well thought out design, hopefully Rode will improve their system soon.
That's a feature that both Johnny Depp & Amber Heard would have loved 6:26
Thanks for the video! Mine comes in finally tomorrow, so stoked.
Nice enjoy your new microphone set up
im in Canada and was using the rode wireless go 2. returned two sets due too all the interference from the rode receiver
Thank you for your video. I found it is very sad because the DJI is not compatible with Samsung Note 10 and Note 10+. I hope you can do a video about this please.
Thanks!
Big fan of AP! Especially of your early GoPro vids. Anyway, what’s the best lav mic to match with this? I recently bought a rode lav mic but I’ve learned from reviewers that’s not a good match with the dji mic.
G'day shawn. It's been out here in Australia for a little while now I think. Nice set-up mate!
When I connect mine to a Sony A7Siii with the included cable, there is a high pitched sound generated that can be heard through the cameras headphone jack and it is recorded on the memory card. I contacted B&H where I got it and they weren’t much help. They are shipping me a coiled cord but I doubt that will solve the problem. I tried the mic on a Sony A7iii and did not have the same problem.
Very strange, did you contact DJI to see what they suggest. Please follow up if that cable does indeed work
Has anyone tried recoding directly into a PC using the USB-C cable? I'd like to use this system with OBS on my PC.
Well presented and clear. Very helpful.
Thank you
Great Review Video. Thank You.
Great review, Shawn. I just published my first in-the-field video using the DJI Mic (as a field recorder - so no receiver), and I'm impressed. I've used the last two generations of the Rode Wireless Go, and I have to say this is easier, and the audio quality is just fine - especially if you use a preset like 'Podcast Voice' or 'Balanced Male Voice' (or 'Balanced Female Voice') in Premiere Pro. Mine took months to arrive, but I'm very happy with it.
I am curious if you know how to import recordings from the transmitter via usb c to lightning onto an iPad/iPhone
Good question I have not tried that. I will look into it to see if it is possible
@@TUFFBASS Dunno, mate. Haven’t tried that.
Watched Ron's video today, then came to your channel for a more in depth review.. Great Review, Thanks
Do you know if it works with Mini 3 Pro RC now ?
Yes it does I have tested it a few days ago as long as you plug it into the USBC that is under the door
Ok Shawn You just convinced me to buy one right away. Good work keep on going. Thumbs up from me
Nice enjoy the new microphone set up. It’s quite good. So far it’s been performing beyond my expectations.
liked and subscribed
Thank you very much and welcome aboard
Nice review. That's a must have, some day. Almost as perfect as can be.
One ?
Did it backup audio on both mic when in use, or only if turn on ?
Did here both did backup auto. That's a must.
Both mics (transmitters) can record audio separately. Either automatically or when initiated.
@@AWAShowme ty
@@hurtighansen1 You're welcome.
Yes you can back up audio on just one mic or on both. You can stop and start recording either from the transmitter itself or from the receiver
Good review Shawn. More good gear from DJI.
Indeed
That’s awesome. How much is it? Good video
349 I believe
thanks for the good review but i want to ask does the dji mic can connect to the iPad pro and mac ? just like you did to the iPhone?
Big like 👍👏
Thank you
Good video Shawn, can you do a video using the audio files into LumaFusion?
That certainly has every nice bell and whistle! (Must...stop...myself...from...buying...it................)
LOL, I hear ya sometimes it’s hard to resist new tech.
Great content as always. Will the Dji be fully compatible with the ulanzi updated cages/GoPro 9 using the 3.5 cord, now that the firmware is sorted?
Hey Shawn (Shaun?), do you know if the DJI can use a USB-C to Lightning cable to transfer audio to an iPhone?
I film with an iPhone 12 Pro in a SmallRig cage with the RODE Wireless Go II. I connect the RODE to the iPhone using their SC15 (USB-C to Lightning cable). This is important because the thickness of the SmallRig cage would not allow for the Lightning adapter on the DJI to reach and I don’t need to use a Lightning to 3.5mm female and then a 3.5mm male to 3.5mm male cable to connect to the receiver.
I’ll do some testing and get back to you later today to see if that works
I guess I'm not seeing how to do that as well
Man, I’m sold…I already have the the rode wireless go II, but my only gripe with it is needing a computer to pull the files. Straight to ipad is the way to go. Linking 30 min audio files in a magnetic timeline shouldn’t be that bad, right? Gonna order through B&H, do you recommend they handle the tax and duties when shipping to Canada?
Yes the files are easily Synced. And whenever I work from B&H I always let them handle Taxes and duty, But I guess that’s personal preference I’m not sure if it cost more that way.
I should also mention that I’ve been using mine now for well over a month and I have been super happy with them.
@@AirPhotography I thought I was going to have buyer’s remorse because I already have the the Rode Wireless Go II, but then I realized now I can mic up the entire family! That might be a bad idea actually lol.
Is this suitable with Dji Rc controller??i'm looking for somethimg to connect on that to record sound with my Dji mini 3 pro
I would like to know the range/distance with the DJI Mic and how clear it comes in???
Is the DJI Mic compatible with the Insta360 One RS Twin Edition?
Yes as long as you use the Insta360 microphone adapter
@@AirPhotography whoa! That's big news man. I was gonna spring for the Zoom F2 but it seems to have so many problems
Shut up! Screw the new drones.. I need these bad . OMG it would make my life so much easier.. thx for a very detailed review. DJI is ABSOLUTELY CRAZY boys to have you on there team.. WITH THAT BEING SAID.. I'M GLAD YOUR NOT! 💙💙💙💙💙👍🤙👍🤙👍🤙
MIKEY
Thanks Mikey
Great review, I got mine couple of weeks ago and I am planning to buy Lavalier Mic but some early reviews from early releases stated that there is an interference with some Lav's especially with Rode Go Lav. Did you get a chance to test it with Rode Go Lav while using Receiver? Thanks!
I ordered mine here in Finland like five week ago, and no sign of it yet...
I am curious if you know how to import recordings from the transmitter via usb c to lightning onto an iPad/iPhone. I am having a hard time finding out how to access the files on my iPad
I will look into it for you and if I can figure it out I will post back here
@@AirPhotography thank you sir! I just have absolutely no idea how to access the files from my iPad (as I am a mobile UA-camr and don’t use pc) so it would come in handy. Thanks again!
@@AirPhotography please keep me updated if you find anything out about this :). Thanks!
Really dumb question but when the receiver is plugged into to camera, does the record button on the camera not auto start recording your audio from the DJI transmitter?
Yes when it’s plugged into a camera the audio automatically be recorded to the video track. That record button is if you want to do a secondary recording that will be stored audio only on the transmitter. You can use us either for back up or you can use the transmitter itself just for a field audio recorder. In the settings you can dictate the behavior that it will automatically record an audio back up one powered on
Can you plug this mic receiver into the Pocket 2 and have it work like the Action 2?
I have some røde wireless, they suck. Can't use them outdoor, just can't. Signal sucks when your like 20m away and your body block the signal. It's so bad. Can you make a hardcore test, were you try block it, like we do in real life. Do love the backup. But then its like a lavalier and a phone, we already use that.
Please ;o)
What tripod is that?
Ordered and paid for mine on December 11th 2021 and still waiting... What difference would it make how good a product is if I never receive it! Products these days are for influencers and not for consumers apparently...
I ordered mine from BNH photo and video we actually had fairly fast shipping to Canada. Even if I try to go to the DJI website in Canada it just says coming soon
@@AirPhotography Yup, but I have already paid for it unfortunately...
I would contact DJI and complain if they can’t give you a firm shipping date I would ask for a refund I believe you can even get them on Amazon now with fairly quick shipping
Does the DJI Wireless Microphone Transmitter for DJI Pocket 2 (CP.OS.00000123.01) also record a copy of the audio to itself like the full versions? One transmitter that records to itself is all I need. I will sync in post. The Pocket 2 edition comes with no receiver for $89. Thx
When I recording with my mini 3 pro how do I handle the noice from the drone if I use the dji mic
FYI, here's one downside for this fabulous mic system, when you use it with an iPhone you only get mono mode you do not get separate stereo left and right channel. Please DJI, with a software update could you please make it so the iPhone will stay in stereo mode in not forced into mono mode… I know you can use the transmitter's as recorders but it's just one more step I have to work with when I get into post production. I work on long documentaries and I don't need more files to keep track of or hard Drive space…
is this possible to use on helmet vlog set up?
I’m not quite sure about that. I’m assuming with a Lavalier mounted in the helmet it would probably work
Argh i got the dji mic for pocket 2
🤟🏼😎🤝
Shawn I have this now and I want to know if the volume can be adjusted mine seems to be awful low I looked and can not see where I can rise or lower the volume
Adjust the gain. Try on the transmitter also adjust it for the receiver
Thanks for the tips Sean...I ordered this mic from DJI a month ago and it never shipped. Just canceled my order from DJI and ordered from B&H. Says I should get it by the end of the week. Let's hope it works out that way.
Yeah when I go to the DJI website in Canada it just says reserve. I really wonder what the delay is. Do you think it should come faster direct from DJI
@@AirPhotography when I ordered the Mic direct from DJI on May 3rd, the expected delivery date was June 17th. I was willing to wait and thought I would get it before other stores had them in stock. But I guess I was wrong.
Is it worth the extra over the rode?
The wireless go Ii from rode is a excellent microphone system. So I guess it just depends on how you will be using it. For me indeed it is well worth the upgrade price
@@AirPhotography I agree I’m going with mobile so this might be best for me thanks 🙏
I shouldn’t had bought the rode wireless go 2
It’s still a great microphone system. I think DJ I did a great job in the development of this kit especially for a first generation product
Crap company, their new firmware tends to brick one of the transmitters and they have zero clue how to fix it. You're stuck hoping they'll respond via email. Meanwhile, they have been made aware of these bugs for about a month with the current firmware and have made no mention of this, or any revisions.
