guitarist, singer, songwriter and producer
guitarist of the rock band Bon Jovi
solo albums: Stranger in This Town in 1991, Undiscovered Soul in 1998, and Aftermath of the Lowdown
inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
Richie is my favorite from the band Bonjovi. His voice is immaculate! I hate that he left, but I understand that he wanted to focus on his personal life. He's the best!
He's got a new record expecting to drop this fall 😀
I agree. That guy taught me guitar in the 80s and 90s. The best ever.
His album is march 24 til early fall
Mr Richie Sambora, people. The most talented and underrated singer/guitarist/songwriter on the face of earth. Check out his Stranger In This Town live performance, and prepare the tissues...
Richie was the soul of Bon Jovi. It will never be the same since he left
Richie Sambora is so incredibly underrated and to me the heart and soul of Bon Jovi! So happy I've gotten to see Richie perform a number of times! Incredible voice!
sigh ........... Oh how I LOVE Richie's version of this song!!! He truly made it his song!!! What a MASTERPIECE!!!!!
Great reaction👍
The story why Richie left is yet to be fully published, but I think the fact that they were on tour from late 2009-mid 2011 (with small breaks inbetween ofc) and then agreed to take a break till early 2013 to focus on family and solo material. Richie had his then 15 year old daughter with his ex-wife Heather Locklear who had really bad addiction problems in 2012/2013 and therefore wanted to be there for both of them, but made a really good solo album and went on a small solo tour (ca. 6 month) to have some time before the band wanted to do a new record in 2013, but Jon Bon Jovi decided to write the new record in mid/late 2012 and without Richie who usually was his co-writing partner. Then Richie had to cut his solo tour a little short to work on the album, which had little to no guitar solos and a really pop music sound, unlike the earlier bon jovi stuff and Richie wasnt able to spent more time with his family. As the new Bon Jovi tour went on, he travelled home and back to the venues inbetween shows because Heathers substance abuse problem were really bad and at one point Richie took Ava to Hawaii and decided that he needed the break and therefore "quit" the band. But Jon said in 2013 and 2014 that he understands and theres no bad blood as Richie was present at the Rock n Roll Hall Of Fame induction in 2018 but since then Jon has gotten quite "arrogant" when talking about Richie, saying he doesnt need him (which is a lie) even though Richie said himself that he would rejoin for a special occasion (eg. 40th band-anniversary in 2023).
... But as into you are, you will surely understand what an incredible shock it was for Jon when Richie left without even having spoken to him! We understand that everything was just too much for Richie, too much on that level, that he probably had a burnout from being part of Bon Jovi. but he also never apologized for how exactly everything went, which was very bad! Richie called the manager that he wasn't coming back and the never spoke again till the hall of fame!!!! Around 2016/2017 I saw an interview of the band where Jon says that he never spoke to Richie again and neither did anyone else from the band! that hit me maybe the most, cause I can understand what that must have felt for Jon, probably the same if his wife would have left him! I'm even sure the loss of Jons voice has to do with it! Richie not only left his job, as he kept emphasizing, when he had "toiled" for 30 years as if he had gone into a factory, he also left his friends, his family and never spoke to anyone until the hall of fame! He never said, hey I'm sorry, I never wanted to leave you as friends, I just couldn't do this job any more. to this day, all he's ever said is "I'm sorry" and he's never said anything. It's understandable that he couldn't do this job anymore, but it's very unfortunate that there was never a friendly approach between them. I can absolutely understand John, who has NEVER said a single bad word about him, if he no longer attaches any great importance to his presence after years of silence, now that Phil X has been around for more than 10 years and is doing a good job.very underrratet.
Those who know. King of Swing
His version is perfection performed with such passion!
Absolutely love Richie , he is a total legend in my opinion and hero of my childhood. Seen Bon Jovi 4 times when they toured Glasgow in Scotland, and seen Richie too when he toured with Orianthi (his girlfriend and phenomenal guitarist) after he left Bon Jovi. You guys should definitely check out some of Richies solo albums. “Stranger in the town” “Undiscovered soul” and “Aftermath of the lowdown” 👍🏻
I recommend watching this video strictly focusing on richie.
It's the fact, in my opinion, that he puts 110% soul and emotion into every note he sings or plays that makes it so special.
Richie is a special dude. One of the greats.
Richie is the writer of the song
Blood on Blood (Moscow 1989) the best Sambora moment!
if you liked this, then you should listen to Richie singing Father Time, the vocals are amazing.
My fave solo song of Richie’s ❤
Please reacht to Bon Jovi - Always 1995 London❤️ In tears every time♥️ so real♥️
Yes!!!
Yes
Yes!!
Richie Sambora the best!!
Richie Sambora has always been my fave person in Bon Jovi. You gotta listen to him do harmony on a Bon Jovi song it can’t get no better than Sambora!! He has 2 albums out btw! The are bananas!!!
3 albums all great!
Lizzy, how can you be such a fan not to know that he has released 3 LP's over the years? His skills with a guitar are good, but it's his harmony to Jon's melody that I really love about him and miss from way back 30 years.
Excuse me for hitting the wrong button! I agree him and Jon sound great together! I’m not taking anything away from Jon as a front man I just like Richie’s voice better.
Also btw I remember the first time I heard them on MTV! 35 years or more. I’m old I can’t remember the exact date. Thanks for schooling me on Bon Jovi lol (I hit the wrong number)
@@dizzylizzybeth Relax, take a deep breath, and then take a chill pill.
Like I’ve always said......Sambora’s vocals are as good as Bon Jovi’s and totally underrated as a guitarist.
Maaaaaan, thanks for this vid . I’m totally in love with this rendition of the song . Richie is really a great singer / guitarist/ songwriter.
Richie Sambora God 🎸🤘
He said he just needed to be home with his daughter! Her mother Heather Locklear was going thru some crazy shit and he felt his daughter needed him! Plus, Bon Jovi tours were 16 -18 months and after 39 years he needed a break! There was no bad blood as far as Richie was concerned and they did get together for lunch before they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!
They're still mad at Richie for leaving like that but most of us try to put our children first. I think he should of said hey man sorry but I got to go. Maybe he felt they would make him feel bad enough to stay. It's old news and Bon Jovi would not of been the band they were without Richie. Ritchie and Jon were great together and it sucks that pride will keep them apart. They should do a side concert for the fan's that made them who they are and were. It would not kill Phil to sit out and let it happen on the side not permanently but one album it would be the biggest album sold to date if it happened and would be legendary in history that they came back together for one album to say their goodbyes
@@RosesGibbs Yeah, I agree, on both counts. However, I think Richie felt like the band was becoming all about Jon and the rest of the guys were just back seat riders…and after watching Jon for a long time, I agree with Richie…Jon wants the band to revolve around him…he’s the true star! In reality, Richie is a better singer…
First of all they all reunited at their hof induction into rock hall in 2018. They also didn't permanently break up. Richie went solo to be with his daughter who needed his support. Richie also wanted to go back to his roots in music and Jon and the label wouldn't allow it. There's way more to it too.
Props to David Bryan on keyboard and backing vocals
The real talent in Bon Jovi right there!
Richie Sambora é insubstituível!!
Abraços do Brasil !
Ele e de mais era alma viva da banda
*The Man with the hat....as we all know him......* 🎵🌟🔥🔥🔥🔥🌟🎵🎸🔊✅
Soulfull voice
Richie always sounds amazing this version is perfect 😍 such a miss in the band . His solo albums are fantastic so worth a listen
Masterpiece Sambora
just to let you know they didnt have a fight . richi left to be with his daugther . he and jon are still friends .if you research it you will find all these facts. PS i love what you do.
A great song from Richies solo album ... "A Stranger in this Town"
Check out his solo recordings especially Stranger in this Town.
It won't ever be the same without Richie
True :'(
True dat
The reason for Richie leaving wasn't because of anything bad. He was missing his daughter grow up and she was at a crucial age and needed him.. so he decided to leave the road to be Dad
Another thing....GREAT to see you two coupley during this! This song does THAT!!!!
WE NEED MORE OF BON JOVI AND RICHIE!!!!
Check out Ritchie Sambora’s solo hit
Stranger in this town.
Espectacular !!!!! Great Version
I love this rendition l!
the best version for Richie!!!!
06:55 yes, "A Lot Like Love" 2005. Ashton Kutcher sang this song in this movie
His first lone album stranger in this town is a masterpiece, for me he always had a more powerful voice than jon
You guys have to watch stranger in this town live!! By Richie!!!!
Lyrics:
I guess this time you're really leaving
I heard your suitcase say goodbye
Well, as my broken heart lies bleeding
You say true love, it's suicide
You say you've cried a thousand rivers
And now you're swimming for the shore
You left me drowning in my tears
And you won't save me anymore
I'm praying to God you'll give me one more chance, girl
I'll be there for you
These five words I swear to you
When you breathe, I wanna be the air for you
I'll be there for you
I'd live and I'd die for you
I'd steal the sun from the sky for you
Words can't say what love can do
I'll be there for you
I know you know we've had some good times
Now they have their own hiding place
Well, I can promise you tomorrow
But I can't buy back yesterday
Yeah, baby, you know my hands are dirty
(Oh, woman, you know my hands are dirty)
But I wanted to be your Valentine
I'll be the water when you get thirsty, baby
When you get drunk, I'll be the wine, oh
I'll be there for you
These five words I swear to you
When you breathe, I wanna be the air for you
I'll be there for you
I'd live and I'd die for you
I'd steal the sun from the sky for you
Words can't say what love can do
I'll be there for you
I wasn't there when you were happy
(I wasn't there to make you happy)
And I wasn't there when you were down, down
Didn't mean to miss your birthday, baby
I wish I'd seen you blow those candles out
Oh
I'll be there for you
These five words I swear to you
When you breathe, I wanna be the air for you
I'll be there for you
I'd live and I'd die for you
I'd steal the sun from the sky for you
Words can't say what love can do
I'll be there for
I'll be there for you
These five words I swear to you
When you breathe, I wanna be the air for you
I'll be there for you
I'd live and I'd die for you
I'd steal the sun from the sky for you
Words can't say what love can do
I'll be there for you

As I understand it, Bon Jovi were assembled after Jon got a record deal. He was then able to hand pick some of the best musicians working on the Jersey Shore at that time. They all had a lot of experience playing in other bands. Some of them had had record deals. They were all working pros. So Bon Jovi are a bit different to some other bands. They were never really a garage band together. In some ways they were handpicked like a lot of 'boybands' of the 90s. But it was the 80s. Unlike the 'Backstreet' clones of the 90s, these guys had to play instruments, so their musical ability was the main reason they were 'picked.' To this day, they're one of the most impressive bands I've seen live. Exceptional musicians.
Oh…Beautiful voice
Come back Richie
Richie is one of the all-time greats. I never really considered Bon Jovi to be "Jon's band", but a partnership between Jon and Richie. And as such, it hurt me when Richie left. But if they ever make nice and get back together, I'll totally come out to see them.
In other news, though, Richie had an awesome, super-bluesy solo album called "Stranger in this Town". I'd recommend checking out the title track.
Good job, Hunterz!
Eva his daughter was in deep depression, so he left the band to be with her and help her out.
Bon & Richie son los mejores.....
They are all great singers keyboard player david bryan is an award winning broadway composer. Drummer Tico Torres has a great really deep voice video on YT of him singing with jon on drums one thing jon bon jovi can't do is play drums lol
Alec John Such also got an amazing backup vocals. He did some in the 80s.
Only in my dreams song
Please react to Bon Jovi , Jakarta 1995 . Richie wrote Never Say Goodbye . JBJ changed maybe a verse or a few lyrics , but RICHIE already had that wrote . Check out Richie's backing vocals . Please then tell me who was the better singer . TY!!
Your Bon Jovi reaction videos are my absolute favorite!!!!!
Girl your right!!! Bon Jovi without Richie is nothing!!!
Richie Sambora - guitar
Tico Torres - drum kit
Hugh McDonald - bass
Lorenza Ponce - violin
Dave Bryan - keyboard
Bobby Bandiera
Richie Sambora Richie Sambora ❤❤❤❤❤❤
It's not true that they haven't spoken since Richie left. Bon Jovi was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame in 2018 and Richie attended their second show in Trenton, NJ just before they went to Cleveland to perform together at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They did play together on stage but Richie did not return to the band. Richie left the band after the first leg of their 2013 Because We Can tour, and simply did not show up to play the next show in Calgary, Canada. Of course he did not have to remain in the band at all but the reason they did not talk until 2018 is because Richie didn't show up to work one night and did not bother to call, so they had to go on that night without a lead guitarist. Bobby Bandiera, the rhythm guitarist at the time did his best to fill that spot and Jon Bon Jovi played guitar on songs he didn't normally play on. The thing is if he had notified them ahead of time then they could have contacted Phil X to make it to the show on time and have someone on lead.
Phil X was basically their backup plan in case Richie ever needed to go back into rehab when they were on the road. He had actually helped them out on the previous tour when exactly that happened. Come 2013, Jon called on Phil X to bail them out again and when the band walked off the stage in Calgary that night, Phil was their and ready to play as long as needed. So that note at the beginning about Bon Jovi not being the same is true, but it's simply because Richie walked out on them. The slap in the face was he kept saying in interviews throughout 2013 saying that he would return sometime later in the tour.
In 2016, Phil X became and official member of Bon Jovi along with Bass player Hugh McDonald, joining Tico Torres, David Bryan and Jon Bon Jovi. While Bon Jovi changed when Richie left, they're still my favorite band of all time, and Phil X is an amazing guitar player as well! I would recommend watching Always live from Wembley Stadium in 1995, and then go and watch the performance from Wembley in 2019, if anything just for Phil's absolutely AMAZING solo!
Side note: There is a necklace designed after the Slippery When Wet road sign that gets handed out among the touring crew and band members during every tour. To earn this necklace you need to complete 2 full tours with the band and at the end of your second tour you will get it in a small ceremony and join a small group of people who have earned it. Phil X earned it in 2013 for saving the tour.
I highly recommend you watch Tokyo road from Bon Jovi live in the 1990 countdown. I absolutely love that concert and each and every one of those songs were amazing to me. Please react to it, it will be an amazing experience.
OMG this is the masterpiece.
Check out ballad of youth off of Richie’s solo album
Richie wanted to spend time with his family and not be away from them because of Bon Jovi touring. Just what I read. Hard to know for sure but I don't think there is bad blood between them. Because they don't seem like that kind of people to hold grudges. I think they are happy when they do their own thing and are successful. They were all together at their HOF induction. Jon and Richie were a great team. I wish they would write together again. ❤
Richies voice, awesome
Richies reason for leaving is to give his time to his family since they were touring for decades
Ritchie struggles with substance abuse for years. In 2013 he left Bon Jovi abruptly due to being the primary caregiver to his daughter Ava that he has with Heather Locklear. Jon Bon Jovi told him he will always have a spot open for him to return. Ritchie and Jon wrote majority of Bon Jovi songs together.
Then Jon said he couldn't see letting him come back.
@@thequiet1374 rather sad, they were an amazing duo.
@@grobinson7507 very, very sad.
About the time I get used to Richie being gone, I'll listen to some old stuff from when he was still with them, and the harmonies and sound he added were just so amazing.
It's a tough one to take.
@@thequiet1374 Jon and him were brilliant and the music after he left was just not the same and that Magic is gone.
@@grobinson7507 agree 100%
Richie at his finest
Please reaction:
-I'll Be There For You (Live in Sao Paulo 1995)
-This Ain't A Love Song (Live in Wembley 1995)
Thank you ♥️
This is simply the best of CLASS right here...He's one amazing guitarist and his vocals ! I'm watching this video again and I have to say that Ritchie sings this song better than Jon ever did !
I always loved Richie's version so much more than jon's
For a blues side of Richie Sambora try ..... "Richie Sambora BB King"
You have to see bon jovi live in the 80s
Interesting FYI: The guitar Richie is playing, he bought from Matthias Jabs (lead guitar player of Scorpions, friend of mine) at his Munich-based guitar store called MJ Guitars. It is one of Jabs' signature guitars called the Gold Mastercaster. The two of them toured together during the 80s with their bands and have always been really good friends.
Anyway, this is the only time I ever loved this song, when Richie sang it. Becuz to me Jon couldn't sing very well but Richie carried him by his guitar and his harmony in the band. But Richie absolutely killed this song.
BTW, when are you two going to React to Liliac's Dio Cancer Fundraiser tribute that Wendy Dio asked them to do? "Last In Line" Thx
Great story - thank you for sharing it!! And I agree 1000% - Richie's voice is head and shoulders above Jon's voice (especially past 1992).
That's a fender strat no?
Richie 😍
Nice video. Awesome reaction guys. More Bon Jovi plz
The Power Ballads of the 80s are the best. React to Skid Row- Remember You

I have always loved Richies voice so much more than Jon’s.

Bon Jovi is a tribute band without Richie Sambora.

Actually, that’s not true…they have spoken…they spent time together before there Hall of Fame induction!
Please watch Jon’s collab with Orince Harry for the Invictus Games, the song is Unbroken.
You need to listen and talk about the the song Jump by Van Halen
Did Bon Jovi still have a bass player at this point? Didn't see him.
Hugh McDonald but he wasn’t considered a member of the band til later. He actually played bass on Jon’s Runaway demo that got him a record contract.
Richie had a serious alcohol addiction and went into rehab a few times. His behavior apparently became an issue with the rest of the band and unlike a lot of bands all the band members were employees of Jon Bon Jovi and he was terminated after several attempts to clean up.
