Saw the Joffrey dance to Prince in San Francisco. I count it as one of the best shows I've seen in my life. Thank you, dancers. Thank you, Prince. This is masterful legacy.
I had the absolute pleasure of seeing Billboards in Dallas, in 1993, and it was the most seductive and scintillating ballets I've ever experienced. The Joffrey Ballet and the music of Prince...what an explosive combination. It was truly something to behold! Designed as an opportunity to bring ballet to the masses, as a student of ballet for many years, I found Billboards to be both tantalizing and refreshing. The music world lost a legend and he will be missed. Rest In Peace Prince Rogers Nelson
Seen this in Edinburgh in 1993 awestruck never moved even at the interval. Since then fell in love with ballet and very rarely miss a show. Before this would never have considered going to the ballet, a truely magical experience. Please do more shows like this.
Saw Billboards premiere at Hancher Auditorium in Iowa City back in January 1993. Arpino sat in the next row! It was awesome. At intermission went out to ticket office and bought tickets for the next night to see it again! RIP Prince. Loved The Beautiful Ones choreographed by Margo Sappington the most of all, but hearing and seeing all 12 songs was so magical, so inspiring.
I used the little Purple One's scream at the end of "INSATIALBLE" to augment my own primal scream. After a shitty day at work (State Fund), I would walk the seven minutes home to my little studio in SF; put on the CD; and like Sally Bowles' locomotive engine, I would scream along with Prince. He's one of kind. RIP
It would be wonderful if the video could be re-released for us to buy. I've been searching for this for years, since having seen it once on UK TV. Please please please release a DVD.
Please if at all possible redo or release a disk of Bilboards. Having been on the Excutive Board of Dayton Ballet Company for yrs. I know dance companies can always use money. I'm sure Prince wouldn't mind. But alas maybe there are those rights issues. Again it would be wonderful for young dancers and audiences who weren't around to get to experience one of the performance of Reps that ranks right up with story ballets duch as Swan Lake, Giselle, Coppelia, Don Q, etc.... A dream come true for many. Thanks for Billboards to begin with.
I remember NBC news talked about this. I waited to see what was said and it only shown a clip of the ballerinas dancing. I thought that prince was one of them. either way, it was still nice to see especially since I am a dancer.
In this day, and time where is the ethnic diversity dancers. Prince stood for so many things. The iconic legend was about the people and change. This does not honor him, nor the many artists that the prince fought for through his love, genius poetic and political messages through his artistry! I hope to soon witness the beautiful mix of earth tone Hughes in skin tone and features! One Love!
