    The engine looks spectacular. Came here researching a suitable swap for my 1952 Chevy sedan. Learning quite a bit about how Volvo engineers think. Also in one of the first videos you mentioned you hadn’t spoken English in a while, you sound good to me. Makes me think I need to practice Spanish which is my second language.

      Thanks for mentioning those kind words, it really keeps me motivated to keep uploading! 👍 And please don't put a Volvo engine in a Chevy 😃 Remember, there's no replacement for displacement 😃👍

    Excellent project , I think I would have kept the 3 litre and swapped a twin turbo T6 engine though .
    A few points regarding your building methods.
    1, Bad move using a non genuine Volvo water pump . using the old one would have been the best option if you don't want to buy a volvo one for some reason ...
    I have been working on these engines on a professional basis since well before these engines came out in 1989 an Never had a Volvo water pump fail what ever the age or mileage .
    I have seen some water pumps fail but ALL were these non volvo pumps which people in their wisdom had fitted trying to save a few pennies .
    I'm no big fan of non volvo crucial parts like this as any failure will wreck the engine .
    2, The knock sensors , These have to be fitted at a certain angle for them to work properly , see the manuals .......
    3 , I see you had the cam wheels loosened so lost the orientation ... you tightened them without the locking/ positioning tool in the rear of the camshafts .. and also without the crank positioning tool .
    So the cam timing WILL be wrong . Yes it may run ok , it may be close , but you cannot say it is right , you need to go back to basic principles and always use the positioning tools once you loosen those cam wheels .
    Setting the cam shafts and crank shaft position by eye is not going to get your cam timing correct .
    4 Crank pulley nut , No power gun . you have no idea how tight it is and as most likely it is over tightened, the nose of the crank shaft could break off , I have seen it all before .... no its not 300 nm that is only for the diesel , you should have tightened a NEW nut to 180 nm ...
    I don't think you used the 4 new bolts on the crank pulley either which are use once stretch bolts and have to be angle torqued .
    Good luck with the project

    hey! that's an amazing project that you got going on there! i wanna do the same to my 740 soon. could you tell me which aftermarket/adapter parts you needed for the engine to fit and where you got them? i know about cutting the oil pan from the 6 cyl, but what engine mounts did you use etc. thanks and greets from austria!

      The engine mounts are from andersson steele and speed. Available @ www.speeding.se
      www.speedingparts.eu/p/chassis/engine-mount-gearbox-mount/engine-mount-volvo-7900-56cyl-white-block.html
      Use Backmansgarage for a discount. Or you can use the mounts from a Volvo 960/S90 with an inline 6 engine.
      Transmission is from a 6 cylinder Volvo s90 and so is the transmission mount and driveshafts.

    blir bra detta, fått tak i en 960 t5 sjølv så skal godkjenast med motor nå. men har et spørsmål om kam hjula. mine har ikkje hakk eller noe. står bare M på ein plass og skal bytte registerrem snart. er de M merket så gjelder da?

    • @BackmansGarage
      @BackmansGarage  4 роки тому

      Låter som ett roligt projekt 😀 Är du helt säker på att det absolut inte finns några märkningar alls? Dom är väldigt svåra att se på t5:an också. Det är inte som på B230 där märkningen är tydliga. Tyvärr har jag slängt min 6-cyl sö jag kan inte springa upp och titta. M skall du inte ställa den efter i alla fall. Jag tror att M står för vad för typ av kugg det är på hjulet "Modul systemet"

      Nämnde aldrig det pga att det tog slut så var tvungen att blanda märken. Provade således 3st olika fabrikat men kan med lätthet säga att dom ifrån bilfärg.se var mest lättarbetade 👍 Kan tillägga att jag är inte sponsrad av dom på något sätt utan det är bara min egna åsikt.

    You tightend the tensioner wrong. There is an arrow that indicates which way you have to turn it. Idk if it is important but som people say so🤷‍♂️

    • @BackmansGarage
      @BackmansGarage  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks, I will have a look att the tentioner before i try to fire it up and maybe do an update in upcoming video 👍

    • @mathiasjohani2130
      @mathiasjohani2130 3 роки тому

      There are 2 variation, one clockwise and one anticlockwise.
      However Backman you should have explained the vvt phaser a little bit, its not just the marks to line up, the marks could be correct but the cam is not, the marks should be set with the phaser bottomout in the direction of rotation of the engine.
      Nice videoseries however and a good channel and you are funny.👍👍👍

    • @BackmansGarage
      @BackmansGarage  3 роки тому +1

      Ok, will have to cover that a little bit more. I had no idea about the tentioner, but as A-Gaming pointed out, the one I have should be turned the other way. Easy to make misstakes while running all the video stuff at the same time 😄 There is a clearly stamped arrow on it as well 😂
      As for the phaser and alignment, i just made marks when i took it off and installed it back according to the marks again. I diddent cover that because I considered that to be out of scope for that video. But it is a good point to bring up in the future. I will get more engine technical when we build the actual engine later on with a full dissassembly 😃 //Backman
