I hope Dari will check out Oregon and Washington some time. Hopefully we can at least agree on this: West coast is best coast. 🙂
As a native Californian i discovered you just after the war started when i began watching Russian UA-camrs, trying to understand the Russian people. I accomplished that and now 2 and 1/2 years later you are the only one i stiill watch. Im so glad you find California amazing. It is our 3rd largest by area, richest(5th largest economy in the world), most populated, most diverse population and geography, best weather(warm and no hurricanes or tonados), cleanest air from the Pacific ocean), etc, etc Ive been to all these places you went and so many more that i hope you will see here in the future, especially the beautiful coastal redwood trees. Fun fact, in the 1980s, Clint Eastwood was Mayor of Carmel by the Sea. As a native Californian, I think central California is the most beautiful part of the state. You really should try to take a tour of Hearst Castle. It is a bucket list type thing to see. I recommend the sunset tour. (Edit: Always get the Double-Double at In-N-Out. The single burger is lacking.)
Thanks for not leaving out the people living on the LA streets. It is a complicated issue and will take a sustained effort and commitment from people who address all the reasons that drive it. Glad to hear you are coming back some time in the future. If you get to do a long stay (working or studying) I think you'll enjoy just how diverse you LA region is. If it's just a few days I would recommend Griffith Observatory for the views at sunset.
Redondo Beach for Sunset Parties & Ranchos Pallas Verdes has some pretty good cliffs right there too all looking over the Santa Monica Bay. Actually, it's all pretty amazing. (From the cornfields of Indiana)
I loved this video. I lived in San Diego for 50 years and moved to Oregon a year ago. I miss my home state. Seeing your experiences in San Diego warmed my heart. I’m so happy to see that you were able to visit so much of the state. Maybe you feel better about possibly getting to work on this coast and will consider making California your home!
Great travel blog. I always like how you report the good, the bad and the ugly. Many UA-camrs just show the good or some personal stories that are not important for me. Anywhere you go and the locals are NOT swimming, skiing or walking down a certain road, don't try to be the first. They just know better.
Dari...those two huge domes you drove by on your way to San Diego are part of the San Onofre Nuclear Power Plant....now closed. I worked there for many years and enjoyed seeing those in your video. It also reminded me of an iconic scene from the movie The Naked Gun with Leslie Nielson. As a California native I loved seeing it through your eyes.......your videos are great!
Welcome Dari to my old home... I have been going to these areas since I was born... family all lives in Southern Calfornia and also I lived 3 years in Salinas/Monterey Bay when my family was stationed there for the military... glad you got to see a lot of what the state has to offer, it is a beautiful state to visit
I've lived in California my whole life. California is so vast, so many places to see. I live in the Monterey area and the weather is pretty much the same year round. The winds can be strong at times. I hope you make it back to the state. 😊

That was a fantastic video. One of your very best in fact, which is really saying something because they are all superb. Since I first became a subscriber (when you were still living in Russia) your video editing skills have gone from very good to absolutely off the scale - broadcast quality even. And when you were walking along the middle of that road wearing your beautiful pink dress I fully expected all the traffic to stop! Your dress sense is every bit as good as your videoing ;-)
The tacos in California are more like Mexican street tacos. Tex-Mex is a totally different food, so it's another type of taco to try. There are also many types of barbeque to try, Texas barbeque is different from other types of barbecue. I won't try to start a war, but it's interesting to try different regional barbeques. If you make it to the DFW area, I'd be happy to show you some local options. It's not the most scenic destination, but there are some local attractions which are interesting.
Great video Dari! It's great to see you finally seeing places that you had only seen in movies or tv shows before. Really looking forward to your next video!
Glad you got to see California. It is beautiful. I read that San Diego has the fewest heating days and cooling days, meaning it experiences the least need for both heating and cooling throughout the year due to its mild climate.
I like this trip very much, This is such an amazing country and The beaches here are beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing this trip with us, Have a good weekend.
Have heard that Carmel by the Sea is a "place to visit". Used to be be more in touch with some of my relatives in S Calf. but have long lost track of them. ( the Cameron's and some Gantz's ) My mom's father and my grandmother used to drive across the entire USA to visit my uncle in Pasadena to attend the Rose Bowl Parade and stay with my uncle throughout the winter. Used to watch the Rose Bowl on TV hoping to see my grandfather and mother but we never saw them. Never been to San Diego but probably should have looked into moving there in my mid to late 20's to find work. Have heard that lt is one of the few sane places left to live in S Calf. S. Calf. weather is hard to beat. Yes, its wall to wall cars there along with wall to wall people but there are a few nice places left. The mountains rising off of the basin floor is breath taking and the desert east of mountains is vast and very flat. The desert is breath taking at first due to its size but it soon turns to boring. At least you didn't include the desert in your video. Your video pretty well sums up S Calf with th e good & the bad. Visiting the Hearst Mansion and the Winchester Manson ( if its in Calf. It was built by the founder of Winchester fire arms) along with Universal Studio my have added some extra flare to the video.
I grew up in California and it was the best time of my life. Carmel by the Sea is home to the iconic actor Clint Eastwood of the spaghetti Westerns fame. He served there as mayor in the 1980s. You missed one of the most incredible sights in Monterey: the lonely cypress tree against the sea on the cliffs. Santa Barbara has a coastal vibe. The University of California is there and I did my thesis work there. If you want to escape crowded LA, its worth the drive! LA has the Hollywood Walk of Fane, Rodeo Drive, Universal Studios and the LA Zoo. My old haunt of Long Beach to the south, has the Queen Mary, that ended its transatlantic travels on its final arrival there in 1967. Don’t forget neighbouring Orange County, home to Disneyland and the Disney California Park. So much to see and do and you can’t explore everything California in one visit! I’m listing the highlights! Thanks for your video and I’m looking to more of your California adventure! Dari, take care and remain blessed! 😊
Hey Dasha, yes Being in San Diego is so far South, the water is going to be warm. If you don't know the difference in sharks & bottle nose dolphins just by looking at their dorsal fins, it's OK to be frightened. Also when you are that far south, of course the Mexican food will be Amazing! Not far from Tijuana, the competition for your $$$ is fierce. Also, My Russian friends Alexander insisted I call him Sasha, Annya wanted to be called Anna. Would you prefer I call you Dari? -G
That was a good trip. I wouldn't even have minded seeing more videos from it. Like just do one full video showing LA. Or one just showing San Diego. I'm sure you would get views from people just interested in touring those places. I'm from the east coast and have only been to California once, in a quick trip. So it was nice to see some more of the sights in your video.
It was good luck for you to end up going to Carmel. Last time I was there I was a kid. Actor Clint Eastwood was the mayor. Seems to be the same. The only touristy/interesting things you missed were Hearst Castle in San Simeon (Citizen Kane) - you’d probably like this. Also Monterey Bay Aquarium (Steinbeck: Cannery Row. Hewlett Packard. Read up.) Whiskey a GoGo perhaps. Maybe the Getty Museum, Natural history museum at La Brea tar pits -kind of unique. Apple headquarters Cupertino (You need an in though. Something to explore in the meantime). Not a big deal. You got the most interesting stuff. Some things to do next time. Cheers
@@DariSteppalm springs is also very cool. California is nice i live at Red Bank NJ central shore nj. Its such a wonderful area and ive been all over my country. This is the best area in my opinion a little expensive but its worth it . 1 hr boat ride to city to commute
Carmel-by-the-Sea may be tiny but it was home to two of America’s legendary photographers, Ansel Adams and Edward Weston. Also, Clint Eastwood used to be the town’s mayor. Did you know there’s a local ordinance forbidding high heels from being worn? One of the largest aquariums is in Monterrey, the Monterrey Bay Aquarium. It’s really worth the visit, especially for the sea otters. 🦦 Looking forward to your trip to San Diego!
Some other great places to consider on your next trip to California: - Devil's Postpile National Monument - This is not that far from Lake Tahoe, which I also recommend. It is one of the most interesting places I've seen. It is a collection of tall basalt columns stacked next to each other, which kind of look like dense bare trees from a distance. They're about 50-60 feet high. They're actually giant basalt crystals standing on end. You can walk around on top of them, and they're pentagonal and hexagonal, so they look like tiles. There also is a big, very tall waterfall about a 2 mile hike away (Rainbow Falls). - Since you said you wanted to visit Griffith Observatory, consider the Mt. Wilson Observatory in the San Gabriel Mts above Los Angeles. You get a great view of the Los Angeles area. They give a presentation inside the facility which describes its history. It is a very famous place, as this was the place Edwin Hubble first observed that all the galaxies are moving away from each other, thus indicating that the universe is expanding. You also can see the "temperature inversion" phenomenon, where you learn that all of the LA smog is trapped below around 4000 feet (the observatory is at around 7500 ft, IIRC). The air up there is so clear that the observatory still is very usable today despite all of the pollution down below. Make sure you go on a day that the facility is open. - Sequoia Natl Park - You said that you wanted to go here anyway. You've never seen trees until you've seen these behemoths! They actually make the giant Redwoods, which often grow alongside them, look kind of puny by comparison. - Bristlecone Pine Forest - This one isnt for everyone and it's very far away from practically everything else, very high up on the other side of the Sierra Nevada Mtns. But these are the oldest living things on Earth, up to 4800 y/o. They dont look impressive because they grow very slowly and never get more than about 15-20 ft high. They are very twisted and gnarly and the older ones are mostly dead wood. But I found them very fascinating and well worth the trip.
No in and out order is the classic double double animal style with animal style fries. And a shake. The secret sauce is just one part ketchup to two parts mustard and a little relish to add texture.
Loved the video of California! It brought back so many wonderful memories of our trip about 20 years ago . We flew to San Francisco , & hubby did 2 days of business in San José, then we drove to Hearst Castle for a tour ,then to LA where we saw Rodeo Drive, & took a double decker tourist bus tour and saw Grauman’s Chinese Theatre & the stars on the Hollywood walk of fame, and also saw the HollyWood sign. The next day we drove to Monterey and visited the famous Monterey Aquarium, after lunch we drove to the famous Pebble Beach Golf course and Carmel . The next day we drove the Pacific Coast highway , but we left so early that the fog off the ocean was SO thick we could not see the beautiful Pacific coast of Big Sur. ☹️ So sad we saw very little because of the darn fog! We drove to La Jolla, and saw a fabulous sunset from a park bench beside the ocean . The next day we drove to San Diego where we went to the famous San Diego Zoo. We visited the famous Hotel Coronado that we’d seen in movies, and a few US Navy Ships in port . What a great trip we had,and your video brought back such great memories of many locations we saw! So, Thank you very much for your great vlog! 👍👍
Awww Dari you look so happy 😀 You also appear very relaxed and what I would imagine your natural personality. Looks an amazing trip. Would love to visit San Francisco 🏳️🌈🙂☀️
I loved the contrast of seeing you, a Russian girl in “LA,” wearing a hat with the “NY” logo of my favorite New York team! It’s very sad to see what’s become of California cities with the drugs and homelessness etc., but California’s natural beauty (and yours) still shine through!
It looked like the beach was in La Jolla right below the school I went to. UCSD is a hard school but they make it harder by putting it next to a nice beach.
I think it is strange how everyone coming from overseas on vacation doesn't stop to check out Hearst Castle. On a clear day you can see for miles up and down the unspoiled coastline. Crazy to think that all that unspoiled land was once owned by one man. I used to ride my Waverunner from Dana Point to Oceanside and I always saw dolphins swimming up and down the coast, also a couple of pilot whales.
@@DariStep It is 5 minutes north of Cambria, on PCH. Hearst Castle, or "La Cuesta Encantada", its official name, was built between 1919 - 1947. It sits atop the Sant Lucia Mountain Range overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Even though it was built in the early 1900's it is still very beautiful. I will not tell you anymore, you have to go and see it for yourself. If you decide to go, stay in Cambria, San Simeon is closer and cheaper, but the rooms are dated.
@@DariStep It's definitely a highlight of Highway 1. Extreme opulence. Hearst had his own private zoo there. A lot of Hollywood stars would stay there in the guest mansions. Hearst had the famous California architect, Julia Morgan, design it.
Fantastic video with amazing and beautiful views! And drone shots. Very well edited! Here's a few tips. Burger is pronounced BRRGRR. (BRR is what we say when we are cold, GRR is how a dog growls.) If you are swimming in the ocean and spot a real shark, the last thing you want to do is panic and make a big splash. That attracts the shark;s attention. The best thing you can do is calmly swim away under the water as if you are a shark. If the shark gets too close, punch it hard on the tip of its nose. This will usually chase it away.
Wow California! Such a fantastic video! The highway along the coast is just amazing and the scenery all around is so beautiful. This is really a great journey! Thank you Dari for sharing this awesome adventure. Your friend is also so kind! Take care🪻💕🍀
Very enjoyable video this Dari in California they do have nice beaches but sharks are a problem now. You visit nice places to eat and see sightseeing for a very short time are you back in New York soon? I look forward to your other video tomorrow.
Hey Dasha! You started in Nevada so I hope you got a chance to experience the excitement of Las Vegas; if not, there's always next time. You captured the stunning Pacific Coastal Highway, Big Sur, San Diego, LA, and so much more. It truly looks like you embraced all the beauty that California has to offer, especially the surf, sun, and open sky. My only regret is that you didn't have the entire summer to soak it all in! I'm sure you'd be a natural in the surfing scene. I love driving into LA from say Anaheim after midnight because you see the city of lights. It truly takes your breath away, much like when you saw The Golden Gate or Bixby Creek bridge. I am so happy your dreams are coming true! 🩵
Dari, as always, you're such an enthusiastic and engaging guide. Great food and venues. You guys rock. I'm a lifetime resident. With a little travel experience here. And this episode is a fun and captivating synopsis of a very big and diverse place. (Carmel is just as beautiful as I remember it.) With some very iconic selections. I'm a little biased. I would have planned a tour of Cal Berkeley, UC Santa Cruz, Stanford, UCLA, the museums and SF and LA Planetariums. That's another adventure. I loved the cultural references to popular TV shows. Please, come back to see the Hollywood sign! I enjoyed drone footage and class. Thank you! 😊
Very enjoyable and loved the views of the iconic bridge. Don't fancy the long drives though. LA really was a place of contrasts, sad in some ways. Some good food too on your trip. Fun video.
The train from San Diego to Los Angeles is really great, in some cases you are like 20 yards (20 m) from the ocean! The best ride is to take that from San Diego to LA, and then get on Coast Starlight and ride it to Seattle....from Oxnard to San Luis Obispo you get amazing ocean views, for about three hours, then it's desert and forests as you go up to Seattle! Coast Starlight takes 36 hours all the way up to Seattle. You can pay for a bedroom on it if you want, they have half size ones and full sized ones, the full sized one has a bed that holds two people, and it has a toilet and shower right there in the room! 🙂 In both cases you get three meals per day included in the price, cooked by a chef on the train. And there is more food available in a cafe, but you pay for the extra food. 🙂
Guys , more likes . Everyone hit the thumbs up, it's free! What an awesome video , you make California look like a great place to visit . Such a shame about LA.
I think i could live in one of those little towns Dari and i never thought i would say that after watching some other video`s on California, its a shame it get`s a lot of negative press nowadays as it looks an amazing place but the prices $26 for a breakfast (it did look nice though) I've just booked a flight to Alicante for that price £20 which is about $26, but well done for getting out and about showing us other places in America you could have easily been lazy and just stayed in New York blogging ...make everyday count that`s Dari`s moto 😍
Oh Dari! It looks beautiful. You like to go on hikes and I'm sure you'll do hikes the next time. Svetlana is also staying in California, somewhere close to a beach, like a little town. It's always nice to see your vlogs. Enjoy the new term at university!
Hey Dari, we need to talk about your problem. It's a great problem and I have been enjoying seeing your problem video after video. The big question is, with so many, does it require a big suitcase? I know, I left you hanging 😀😀, but I never seen so many different styles of sunglasses, all of them seem to fit the mood and location where you wear them! Maybe you can get Sun Glass Hut to sponsor one of your videos! Also, it is nice to see again, the places I have visited in San Diego from your perspective. Great place, but so expensive. I know you tried the local tacos, but for the very best, you need to go deeper and away from the downtown area (OMG the best)!!! Too bad you could not meet up with SVETLANA FROM RUSSIA. She was down the block in Ventura, so close to your Santa Barbara stop. Maybe next time. As always, your video was very nicely done!
I hate to break it to you Dari, but nowadays everywhere in the world has its homeless encampment, even small places like Quebec City, or big cities like Montreal, Paris, etc or countries where it is more hidden like Japan and South Korea, but housing insecurity and homelessness is a global problem, and as a world traveler, you need to be well aware of that. It's just usually in areas where it's not so easily noticeable to the regular tourist, for economic (tourism revenue) reasons.
Yeah there's a couple huge landslides on highway 1 right now! There is a public transit bus that normally takes you down through most of the Big Sur area on highway 1, but because of those landslides, they have temporarily halted service. They think it will be at least summer 2025 when it is fixed. It's hard because it's a narrow road, and in those two places, the road got completely covered in rock and sand! 😲 The bus ride is really good because you don't have to drive, you can just look out the window at the amazing views. I have taken that bus down a couple times 🙂 There is a type of tree that only grows in the Monterey Area called Monterey Cypress! Those are the ones at Point Lobos State Park, near Carmel, and that grow in squiggly lines! You surely saw them. 🙂 There was a company here in Silicon Valley that was named after those trees, called Cypress Semiconductor, but they got bought by Infineon. 🙂
Yes, Shake Shack and others have a bigger burger. In N Out is cheaper though. I get a single when I'm not very hungry (who needs that much when you've got fries and a shake anyway). But you can get a Double-Double for less than a single at the other places. And you missed out on getting it with grilled onions...always get grilled onions.
I hope you enjoyed this vlog ❤️ That’s the first part of California video series: ua-cam.com/video/nPkrufLVEXQ/v-deo.htmlsi=uU3uIM-yTV8IiYkh

Dari is great ahaha
Stunning flora, and stunning presenter!❤
Thank you! 😊
Another great video Dari. I'm so glad you and KC had a good time. It's fun to watch you enjoying yourself and seeing some long dreamed about places.
Thanks lots 💫
That was a good trip. I wouldn't even have minded seeing more videos from it. Like just do one full video showing LA. Or one just showing San Diego. I'm sure you would get views from people just interested in touring those places. I'm from the east coast and have only been to California once, in a quick trip. So it was nice to see some more of the sights in your video.
@@saratemp790 happy to hear it!!
So west Coast love it girl
It was good luck for you to end up going to Carmel. Last time I was there I was a kid. Actor Clint Eastwood was the mayor. Seems to be the same.
The only touristy/interesting things you missed were Hearst Castle in San Simeon (Citizen Kane) - you’d probably like this. Also Monterey Bay Aquarium (Steinbeck: Cannery Row. Hewlett Packard. Read up.)
Whiskey a GoGo perhaps. Maybe the Getty Museum, Natural history museum at La Brea tar pits -kind of unique. Apple headquarters Cupertino (You need an in though. Something to explore in the meantime). Not a big deal.
You got the most interesting stuff. Some things to do next time.
Cheers
Thanks for sharing :))
Also go to napa valley and Lake Tahoe are so nice
Omg Lake Tahoe is on my list!
Looking forward to your trip to San Diego!
Thanks for sharing ☺️
Cool, thank you for sharing this adventure. 🤠
@@davidsartin5708 thanks for watching!!!
Another great video
Glad you enjoyed it ✨
Some other great places to consider on your next trip to California:
- Devil's Postpile National Monument - This is not that far from Lake Tahoe, which I also recommend.
Wow thank you so much for sharing all this information 😍🙌🏼
You do not need to worry about sharks. Also you should go to Catalina Island and also visit the Queen Mary an experience into the past
No in and out order is the classic double double animal style with animal style fries. And a shake. The secret sauce is just one part ketchup to two parts mustard and a little relish to add texture.
Ahahah will order it next time!
You need to go to Griffith Park , Getty Center also The Getty Villa, Terenea etc...
Thanks for the rec!
Thank you so much for sharing :)
Awww Dari you look so happy 😀
You also appear very relaxed and what I would imagine your natural personality.
Looks an amazing trip.
Would love to visit San Francisco 🏳️🌈🙂☀️
Ohh I hope you can visit it soon ✈️
I loved the contrast of seeing you, a Russian girl in “LA,” wearing a hat with the “NY” logo of my favorite New York team! It’s very sad to see what’s become of California cities with the drugs and homelessness etc., but California’s natural beauty (and yours) still shine through!
I agree about the cities, very sad 🥲
Did you go to La Jolla or Del Mar? Heaven on earth crazy nice
Unfortunately not! But next time 😊
San Diego > LA in just about every way.
It looked like the beach was in La Jolla right below the school I went to. UCSD is a hard school but they make it harder by putting it next to a nice beach.
You must have driven right past my sister's house on Coast Highway in Laguna Beach, on the way to San Diego 🤔 I was there in june -july. 🤗Fun!
Ahaha cool!
Oh I even don’t know about this castle!
What a great video!
Glad you enjoyed it!
That skating rink was pretty rad. Never associated that with a rooftop before. Big Sur is beautiful ain't it?
It really is 🙌🏼
@@DariStep Your NZ Family (YTube channel) JUST had an episode from there a week or two ago.
thank you for sharing your california travels with us 👍☺
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for sharing ☀️
❤❤❤
Wow California! Such a fantastic video! The highway along the coast is just amazing and the scenery all around is so beautiful. This is really a great journey! Thank you Dari for sharing this awesome adventure. Your friend is also so kind! Take care🪻💕🍀
Thanks so much! 🤗
Another really cool video. Thank you so much for sharing! Did you get a chance to go to fisherman's wharf? Hugs and kisses from Minnesota 😘
Yes I did 😃
So glad the sharks did not eat you!
Same lol
Very enjoyable video this Dari in California they do have nice beaches but sharks are a problem now. You visit nice places to eat and see sightseeing for a very short time are you back in New York soon? I look forward to your other video tomorrow.
@@christophermaer8880 I’m in New York for two months already ahahaha
I am so happy to see you Dari, we miss you so much, Monterey is beautiful and Carmel
Great video. I kind of want to visit cali now
You should! Thank you 😊
Unfortunately I didn’t visit Las Vegas but it’s definitely on the list to visit ✨
@@DariStepit’s ok, you always have the future to enjoy it. Hope classes are going well for you :)
Thank you! 😊
Thank you for the nice words 💫
State route 1 is actually known as the Pacific Coast Highway or pch. Every major highway in California has a nickname.
Another great video. :) At 12:28 in the video it looks like a scene from the 1988 comedy movie "The Naked Gun". There is a joke there.
😅😅
Very enjoyable and loved the views of the iconic bridge. Don't fancy the long drives though. LA really was a place of contrasts, sad in some ways. Some good food too on your trip. Fun video.
Glad you enjoyed it!!
Very good video.
Thank you very much!
38 years ago, Clint Eastwood was mayor of Carmel by the Sea.
So cool ✨😱
Guys , more likes . Everyone hit the thumbs up, it's free! What an awesome video , you make California look like a great place to visit . Such a shame about LA.
Thank youuuu
Thank youuu!
@@DariStep At 6:34 there were a vehicle to the right. Beige. It looks like a Tesla electric truck.
Ahahahah thank you so much!!!
Are you back in the U.S. Dari?
Yes 🙌🏼
@@DariStep Awesome 👍
Did you get a chance to check out any Halloween Haunts yet, or theme park Haunts? What're your plans for Halloween this year? 🤔🎃
And you like New York.... LOL
I do ahahah
I have taken that bus down a couple times 🙂
There is a type of tree that only grows in the Monterey Area called Monterey Cypress! Those are the ones at Point Lobos State Park, near Carmel, and that grow in squiggly lines! You surely saw them. 🙂 There was a company here in Silicon Valley that was named after those trees, called Cypress Semiconductor, but they got bought by Infineon. 🙂
Thank you for sharing 🙌🏼
Yes, Shake Shack and others have a bigger burger. In N Out is cheaper though. I get a single when I'm not very hungry (who needs that much when you've got fries and a shake anyway). But you can get a Double-Double for less than a single at the other places. And you missed out on getting it with grilled onions...always get grilled onions.
You did a California 😊road trip but didnt visit Stanford? 😮 (Im a stanford sfudent)
Ahahah I didn’t have time for that unfortunately! So many places to visit in California 🤷🏼♀️😅
