I love how wireless charging was cool in 2013, and then died out because it was basically a fad, but as soon as Apple puts it in an iPhone, everybody thinks every phone HAS to have it now. My Droid Maxx has wireless charging and in 2018, i still don't use it.

Dude you cant even say that the AI thing is new for that phone because soon all and better android phones will have it, heck even iphones will have (Assistant is on the iphone and so is other google software). This seems to me like a half ass phone to copy the iphone. If google want to get into the phone business, they should have suck with the Google edition phones they had a few yrs ago (like the samsung and htc phones before, imagine a google edition v30 or s8/note 8)

I have this phone and I absolutely love it both the Note 8 and the Google pixel to have ups and downs and disadvantages to each other but all in all I much prefer the pure Android of the Google pixel the camera is much better than the Note 8 which my aunt has and she likes to take pictures with my phone more anyway, I'm not trying to argue with you just simply telling you why I prefer the Google pixel 2 XL it's a really really good phone and I personally love it and have had for about 2 months

for your info pixel 2 xl makes better photos than any dual camera setup .......they emulate all the features with software and AI except zoom also has the better stability than any phone

Pure Android, superb camera, water resistance, small form factor (subjective, I like it) and far less price than the iPhone X (since we're comparing flagships). I'd go for this anyday. My 6 plus has slowed to a crawl :(

To be practical, IP67 and IP68 are not very much different at all. It's not water proof, meaning whether you take it in 1m(ip67) depth or 1.5m(ip68) depth water, chances are it may not survive in either case.
This phone is a disappointment. That primer was terrible on the LG G5 and it's terrible here as well. No headphone jack, no wireless charging or expandable memory? What the fuck Google?

The main reason why a lot of phone does not have expandable memory is because the speed.. the built in UFS or EMMC storage's speed (and stability) can't be compared with a cheap, fake SanDisk memory card that you bought from Ali

SuperFroakie Poor waterproofing? So you can’t go one and a half meters only one lol and you could get a water resistance case too. They make dongles for headphone jacks and you even get one for free. Funny thing is, my iPhone 8 plus sounds better through the adapter than my pixels 3.5 mm jack. And wireless charging? Convenient, but completely unnecessary. You know what doesn’t fix bad software? Wireless charging and headphone jacks - looking at you Samsung and LG.

It has an headphone jack and a camera with settings you can actually use. The pixel is basically on par with my 2013 original Xperia Z if it was running Oreo.

I have the Pixel and it still runs like new after a year of having it. So spec wise it's pretty good. I had the phone with a case for a month and dropped it many times during that month and it didn't scratch or crack, also no color was absorbed from my jeans. Although I would still recommend a case as it doesn't feel all that sturdy. But without a case the phone feels so nice so idk.

Zack, can you do the Pixel 2 XL, too at some point? I love the way you handle these phones' durability in such a scientific manner. The XL is made by a different company so it would be interesting to see how they differ and what they have in common.
I've had my Pixel 2 for about 2.5 years now and I'm pretty happy with it. There is one small scratch in the screen but that's really about it. I'm only a little annoyed at the lack of a real headphone jack but thats just me being nitpicky seeing how Bluetooth headphones are becoming more and more of a common thing. I dont know how long Ill have it for but I do really love this phone and will most likely be sticking with Google for the foreseeable future.
Let's just make this video viral so Google can see this and make a better Pixel next year hopefully :(

San Mattew Google Assistant is way ahead of Siri, so not sure what you mean by AI. On the other hand, this phone provides a clean Google experience. That's what it's selling. The specs are admittedly not great, and it's overpriced, but the experience it offers is worth it. Better than *shudders* TouchWiz and Edge Display.
Oh also, I can understand complaining about 1080p240 and the headphone jack, but wireless charging and IP68?? Is it really that difficult to connect a charging cable? And IP67 isn't even that different from IP68. Dual cameras? The only advantage they have over the Pixel is zoom; Pixel's bokeh is better. Let's not forget the Pixel has Google Lens, unlimited storage and stereo speakers.

You should do the Pixel 2 XL as well. The regular Pixel 2 was built by HTC, while the 2 XL was made by LG and has a different build from the regular pixel 2.

Layth Alkhaer Haven't used a headphone jack in years, the bezels on the XL are very small for a phone with squeezable sides and front facing stereo speakers, I wouldn't use wireless charging when fast charging is available, and there's plenty of memory.
Nice video sir, the flex test concerns me somewhat. The scratch test doesn't affect me so much since I "insure" my phones with a case anyway but good to know for those going commando. Sure seems to be a lot of hate going on for this phone right now. As an owner of one I have to say it is fantastic so far, battery life, responsiveness, by far best camera on a phone I've ever used. The screen to size ratio is very pleasing to me, I actually like to have some bezel call me crazy. Everything on the phone flies so far and I am eager to see how much better the camera will be once Google turns on their own chip on this baby. To all of you on the fence because of the people out there picking on things that bother them personally (many times without ever trying it themselves, some call that envy), I'd say give it a chance for yourself. Don't buy into other people's opinions about what you should or shouldn't like in life.

I have a 2xl and agree with this completely. Some of the nitpicking has been ridiculous, especially complaining about the blue screen tint when the phone is tilted. A complete non issue.
Thanks for this video. I cancelled my order of pixel 2 watching this video. I already made one mistake not reviewing i-phone 6+ (bending issue with bigger i-phone), not going to repeat same mistake again. I was suffered a lot with I-phone 6+ bending issue. Running to apple store so many times, wait long for your turn to come, wait till they work on your phone, some time restore your phone, loosing your saved stuff accidentally :(. Lots of hectic in your busy schedule.

All the Google fanboys are like, "Wireless charging isn't necessary, IP68 certification isn't necessary, No one is going to bend their own phone, This phone is for the software experience, not features". Slowly they are turning into Apple fanboys. Google phones are turning into iPhones too. One of the main reasons people buy Android phones over iPhones is for the features and if Google can't give to the masses, might as well buy an iPhone instead.
I feel like it's all opinion and depends on the person. If someone doesn't need wireless charging or IP68 certification, that's fine. No need to go hog wild on them being apple fan boys for not needing those features.

Just here to clarify ip68 vs ip67 is .5 meter difference.
Both can be submerged for 30 mins but ip68 is up to 1.5 meters and ip67 is 1.0 meters.
But you are correct about the wireless charging. This is not acceptable including the lack of sd card expansion and the amount of fragile shell framing.
The Pixel 2 XL seems to have a different body design that could be much better over all, including none of the little plastic antenna bands, and a curved glass edge.

Because that's how wavelengths work. The frame of the phone is the antenna not the plastic separator. It has to be a very specific size/shape.
To move that line they would either have to make the phone bigger, or smaller .

There was a slight error with what you said with no dual camera being a step back -- the Pixel 2 accomplishes with 1 camera what other phones need two to do, which is very reliable for the back facing camera but is sometimes iffy with the front.
It’s strange that last years pixels damaged fingerprint censor worked with so many scratches and the pixel 2s does not work with scratches
This is the regular Pixel 2 made by HTC, not the XL made by LG.
Seems most people aren't realizing this since the beginning and comparing the 2 as if the 2 XL is the same or at least synonymous when talking about the "Pixel 2"

Lance Stinson The Pixel 2 and the Pixel 2 XL are manufactured by different companies, as Google doesn't make hardware. The regular sized version is produced by HTC, and the XL by LG.
Also, Samsung provides the display for the Pixel 2 and LG for the XL. I repair devices for Google and LG is one of the reasons why the XL is having issues.

Everyting you said is true.
While they do censor some stuff in autocomplete (mostly due to the probably innapropiate and criminal results it may have, like 'murder', or 'rape') you can still workaround to access thus information, But yes, they should be completely transparent with their information, they're the source of research for 90% of people with access to the internet. Just because they have it doesn't mean it's true.
However, an observation:
I'm pretty sure murdering anyone that works for Google (thousands) is WAY worse than Google's censorship.

Deepak Dangol I totally disagree, that's where manufacturers go wrong, trying to please all these youtube blog reviewer's. Some test & reviewers are relevant and some are dumb, like who is going to burn their phone screen, etc. Antenna lines appear to be badly placed allowing a slight bending on one side but he doesn't verify if only the plastic coating cracked or did the metal underneath also break. Then says it may allow water in but no test is done for that.

Cal C pretty much, I was once in an attraction and the safety things (how you call it) pressed so fucking hard on my phone and leg I thought my phone was going to break. Luckily I have an ZTE axon 7 full metal body, but I have the feeling this thing (google pixel) would break apart.
Literally more than half the things good about the pixel 2 is software, wireless charging is overrated, literally the headphone and the bendability are the only things to be somewhat concerned about, his review is trash lol
Ishmeet Tuteja headphone jack actually helps the phone, as using the charging port for charging and listening to music destroys it twice as fast. If you use bluetooth headphones, it will drain the battery so the headphone jack is actually pretty important, at least to me it is
Remember I'm hardware guy....I'll leave the software to other reviewers , but as for me and myself , I'll be sticking with a feature-rich Android phone that can do more....

I always keep my keys in the same pocket as the phone, among other things. I don't want a phone cat can scratch from that. Or break as easily. My current phone was dropped countless times and does not have a scratch, without any kind of casing.

Currently a Nokia Lumia 630. But I want to get an Android based phone next month. This phone is still working as it was on day one. It has 3 years. But lack of apps on Windows phone is making me change.

I just got a Pixel 2 and I really do love it. It was hundreds of dollars cheaper than an iPhone 8/X, LG v30, and Galaxy note/S 8. I had wireless charging on my last phone and i used it once. I'm not in love with there not being a headphone jack but Bluetooth headphones are better in my opinion. Plus I'm in college, the only time the camera isn't facing you is when you're photographing the unthinkable. And with the insane battery life this thing has, it easily lasts me the entire day so I never even have to worry about headphones and charging. Coming from a Galaxy s6 edge, the pixel 2 is phenomenal.
I have a Pixel 2 and I love it, but not having a headphone jack is REALLY frustrating. My Bluetooth headphones broke a few months ago and I've never had wireless earbuds or anything, so I've not been able to listen to music privately. It's a a great quality phone, don't get me wrong - but it is missing some basic key features.
Looks like zack changed my mind from buying a pixel. I am a hardware guy too and I need well built phone.

It wasn't even just the paint itself that cracked, it ruined the water resistance which isn't even top of the line water resistance either.

It really is such a interesting debate between this phones and other similar ones. I personally have a pixel 2 xl but prior to this I had a s8 xl. I honestly like the pixel 2 alot more then the s8 even tho it does have lots of faults like JerryRig was saying. I dislike how the waterproofing is not really there and how there is no headphone jack or SD card slot.
However I honestly still think after a few months that the operating system runs alot smoother then Samsung's version of Andriod which is full of their own software. As well as it may not have a dual camera but the picture quality from this pixel 2 out performs the s8 by a land slide. And Google's photo backup is something from the gods. I have hundreds of photos but only about 40 are on this device. This is a feature which i didn't think about much when I first got it but now that I see how many photos I have and how little space it's taken up on my phone I'm not sure I can live without it!
Honestly every phone has its ups and downs and everyone has their own opinion on them. But my personal opinion is I love the pixel 2!
