    The washer is not meant to be left on when using a suppressor.
    "Remove the cap and the wave washer under the
    cap and store them in a safe place for reinstallation when the
    suppressor is removed." - from the manual.

    I'm sure it's already been said, but the TANDOMKROSS thumb rest safety lever solves the issue with the thumb accidentally riding up the standard safety lever while firing.

    Man, you have solved my problem!!! I installed the Volquartsen kit and then had problems with the pistol sometimes not wanting to fire. I was ready to send my pistol to Volquartsen then I found your video that covered the exact problem that I was having. I did not know that my grip was sometimes pushing up on the safety until after watching the video, I caught myself doing it! Now I know that the problem was me and not the gun! Great catch!!! Now a question... Does the holes in the side of the ruger barrel (vent holes?) make it any louder using a suppressor compared to a barrel without the holes?Thanks!

    Nice review. Do you have ammo preferences for this pistol? A lot of 22s can be sensitive to the ammo quality. Thanks.

    • @AZTrigger
      @AZTrigger  7 років тому +4

      Good question. I cycled over two dozen of the most popular brands of 22 LR ammo through it and not one problem due to ammo. You can run "quiet" sub-sonics as well but you have to manually cycle after each round. So far so good. In my experience keeping most "good" 22LR pistols clean has more of an impact on reliability than the ammo maker. The fact that they made the Mark IV's so easy to disassemble and clean means I am less concerned about to ammo types I run through this pistol...which is the way it should be. Thanks!

      Yea man these things run almost anything. The only ammos Ive had problems with are the NEWER Aguila Super Extras, Standard Velocity and High Velocity. Pretty much any of the Super Extras that say Aguila Prime. The ones that are sold in the old boxes and say Eley Prime actually worked great tho. Idk why they stopped using Eley to prime their cartridges, they worked great back then.

      J Pyron running CCI Mini mag and Remington Subsonic, mine cycles fine (zero issues on subsonic). I have also run Winchester and several of the others also available at Walmart; in the 222, 333 and 555, etc boxes (or whatever they are exactly called). I have found that shooting LEAD bullets causes a quicker build up of lead in the rifling of the barrel and the bullets begin to keyhole around 500 or so (maybe even 100 more) without cleaning. So cleaning looks like something I need to stay on top of when approaching 500 rounds at the range. With that noted, I am shooting more of the Copper coated bullet choices and I am definitely seeing less buildup of lead fouling (so these ammo choices are becoming a bullets of choice). Great pistol. Also be sure to blue loctite the upper rail Allen screws and the rear sight leaf windage drift Allen wrench screws - I checked mine after 600 rounds during the first range visit - and they were all lose (learning curve on my part to stop trusting Manufactures).

    Good review. It takes a fair number of modifications to make this pistol really good which is not a good reflection on Ruger quality standards. You mentioned the trigger. Yes the Volquartsen modification is a great fix but shouldn’t be necessary. The worst thing for me was the mediocre accuracy. I looked at that and discovered that the rear sights are just horrible. They are LOOSE!! due to sloppy fitting. My friend with the identical model had same issues so I think this is probably common. The Williams sight fixes this but that is just really unacceptable to me.

  • @drummergirl9481

    Do you like the feel and accuracy better for the regular Ruger Mark IV, or the Mark IV Lite 22/45? I like the light feel of it but was wondering if you are sacrificing by going light? I also liked the feel ( in a sporting goods store, not actual shooting) of the Browning Buckmark, and it was a lot less expensive. Still a little heavy, but the Browning .22 seemed to balance the weight better in my hand, and the grip was kind of nice too. As it stands, I am choosing between the Ruger Mark IV Lite, and the Browning Buckmark. I was going to buy the S and W Victory, but it was heavy for me and it didn't feel as good in my hand....but is a great price on sale now.
    Also, Can you recommend a red dot less than 200.00 that is okay? thanks!

    • @dman3526
      @dman3526 5 років тому +2

      Drummergirl 9, I bought a MK iv lite this year and with over 5,000 rounds through it already, I can tell you I love it. Out of what you are thinking of buying, I strongly recommend you get a MK IV. The biggest reason being, how easy it is to clean. With 22 ammo, it can be very destructive to your pistol if you neglect to clean it as most 22 ammo is somewhat corrosive. Especially between the breach face and the bolt. I believe the MK iv to be the easiest 22 to field strip in existence. Which means you’re likely to make sure you clean it. Other reasons to pick the MK IV is the upgradeability, which is limitless. But really it’s fine stock too. It is very accurate.
      As to which MK IV to get here are my thoughts which may provide some insight for you. Generally the heavier a pistol is, the easier it is to hold steady and to not disturb the gun as you pull the trigger. Really lightweight guns can sometimes seem a bit “squirrelly” and they seem to shake in the hand a bit more. This can translate into more accuracy, especially for beginners. Also a longer barrel will have a similar effect. So if you want to choose a pistol that is that is the easiest to place the most accurate shots possible, you’ll generally want a heavier pistol with a longer barrel. Also a longer barrel provides a longer sight radius (distance between the sights) which will help with very precise shots. That being said, all of these pistols are more accurate than humans are capable of. So even if you were to pick the MK IV lite, which is the lightest and shortest barreled version, with practice you could shoot just as well as a longer barreled pistol. It’s just that having the longer, heavier barrel makes it much easier to do so, consistently.
      Keep in mind, if you plan to hike or pack pack or anything like that with this pistol, lighter is what you’ll appreciate most. I hope this helps and I have not rambled on past the point of what you already know and didn’t ask for. I’d be curious to find out what you pick. All of the options you are considering are excellent. Cheers.

      @dman3526 5 років тому +2

      Also heavier pistols recoil less which means you’ll get your sights back on target quicker between shots. Not really a huge factor with 22’s but worth noting.

      Millwr Smith stock for now, as it is a defense style training pistol for me. Originally, I bought the 22/45 lite because it’s so easy to shoot well, I didn’t want any extra advantages from weight, longer barrel or a world class trigger.
