- *IMPORTANT INSTALLATION UPDATE!*
Your Accurizing Kit comes with 3 spacers, but not all spacers are used, depending on your specific pistol.
The spacers are: (2) stainless spacers, of different thicknesses. You may optionally use one of these spacers in step 6 on the hammer bushing. Ruger frame dimensions vary, so we provide two choices for you to select the best fit for your specific frame.
(1) black spacer. This spacer is for 22/45-style frames only and is used in assembly step 1 between the sear and spring.
In this video we look at the installation process of our Volquartsen Accurizing Kit for the Ruger® MK IV™.
The complete drop-in kit comes complete with our CNC Machined Disconnector, Target Hammer, Hammer Bushing, Target Sear, Target Trigger with plunger and spring. It also comes with pretravel and overtravel adjustments.
The Accurizing Kit for the Ruger MK IV will provide a crisp, clean 2.25lb trigger pull. This kit will eliminate the magazine disconnect.

Couldn't have been better said.
Just got this put in. My first time taking apart a MK4. Looks complex at first, but with patience and some good needle nose pliers the trigger is now amazing. My teenager was a helpful second pair of hands.
Just installed my trigger on my 22/45, completed in just over an hour, went surprisingly smooth. Hardest part was the sear assembly, which I figured. All and all very happy with the product. Excellent trigger pull
The Volquartzen trigger kit is fantastic! Can't believe how much it improved my mk4. Shoots like a dream!
appreciate the kind words, thank you so much!
I've tried the kits from TK, Apex, Volquartsen and even a mix of these brands across 5 different Mk IV's. The Volquartsen Accurizing kit shown here easily produces the lightest and crispest trigger of them all.. Excellent customer service too!
truly appreciate that - thank you!
Had Volquartsen install this kit on my MK IV this past week. Great turnaround time and professionally done. The difference is phenomenal no comparison to the Ruger trigger. Smooth and light same as the trigger on my S&W mod 41. This is a must have for the Ruger MKIV.
So great to hear!
This is just what we all wanted to hear! I was a little surprised (in the video) that they will do it, but I watched the rest of the video anyway. Nice clear presentation. I can do this kind of work, but will I just buy the parts and then "get around to it"? SOMEDAY? I looked at their website and it seems simple and economical, I think this is good news! Days Later: I have a SW Model 41 actually, and took both out on the same day... by comparison the Ruger trigger felt like there was something wrong with it, I kept thinking the safety was on! YES, somehow I got spoiled by just watching a video and reading a few comments.... It turns out that the Volquartsen web site describes everything in detail, is very clear and organized, and allows you to sign up for installation too. I think they want US to do it ourselves and make it easy.... But it's too easy to imagine buying the stuff, and then taking a year or so to even get around to it... and now the little kit is LOST....
I watched the videos, and the instructions were excellent... Enough, so I gave it a try. I have had a couple strokes and such that mess with my memory, coordination, and confusion. It took about 4 hours Friday evening and about 4 Saturday morning. Chased after small parts 100s of times. Friday night, I was ready to pack it in and send it to you all to fix, but Saturday morning, I got up and watched the video again. I redid the sere spring and sere install one more time because I had messed up the spring, but in the end, I did complete it, and there were no leftover parts or missing parts either. I love the trigger. It is a fantastic upgrade. Please do not take this as a criticism. This was the first time I had tried something like this. The video gave me the confidence to attempt, and Jesus kept me calm. I had to pray a lot for patience, which always works. Thank you for making a kit that an addled old man can assemble. Prayer and this video provided me with success. It was satisfying stepping out to my firing range and making the steel ring. Thank you!
This is great to hear! Appreciate the kind words as well as your patronage.
Just installed this. Couple notes. I had a tough time depressing the bolt catch spring in order to push the trigger pin out. I had to get a small enough but not too small Allen key and push down right on top of the spring, not the catch, in order to get it. Also, the sear spring long end does not need to be visible when installed. They skipped the part where the tail goes. It does not go in the mag well. It goes in a small gap in the grip which is a little tricky getting it seated in there. Plain tweezers helped me get the sear spring, spacer, and sear in. When you install the hammer the dangly part goes in the little divot behind the sear. The sear must be pointed up and pressed against the short tail of the sear spring when you slide the safety and pin into place. You can get the hammer in with the sear down which is what I did first and it did not function properly. Those were my only issues and it still took me about 90 minutes to install. Extreme improvement from stock.
I too pressed the bolt catch spring for a long time until I realized the spring you're supposed to depress to get that pin out is on the opposite side of the gun, and it looks like a pin, no spiral.
I made all of the same exact mistakes. You are a live-saver though. Couldn't figure out why my safety and whole entire mechanism wasn't functioning, the dangly part isn't in the little divot for mine, my mistake. Saved me from taking this all back apart completely and starting over. Thank you!
@@MrChaso123 nice, that’s exactly why I made the comment. Glad it helped!
I just did this upgrade on my Mark IV Hunter. It took about 1 hour and came out perfect. Thank you for your great instructional video!
Had to reinstall my trigger after some service. 3 years later, still in incredibly helpful video.
Great to hear!
If you can't do it with this instructional video, better stay clear of customizing at home. Simply perfect.
FYI if installing on a Mark IV no spacer is required when installing the sear and sear spring.
you just saved me. I was about to go green and hulk smash everything lol
Thank you, it sucks that they didn't feel like this could be a valuable addition to their tutorial
Yes! I spent about 30 min trying to get it all in there and then read on Volquartsen's website that the spacer is only for the 22/45.
Already wanted to post that installing the sear completely sucks...when I saw your note...thanks ;-)
thank you
If you enjoy depot level firearms maintenance, and are comfortable with "some assembly required", then this upgrade is doable at home. It really does help to have locking forceps or spring loaded tweezers so that one can grip the tiny spacers as needed, and maneuver the sear. I have a Mark4, 22/45, and have dissembled the same amount for through cleaning. This kit has made an awesome improvement to my pistol. I do agree that there needs to be a better explanation of the correct spacer to use for the hammer. It was helpful, when I first acquired the Mk4, to watch several of the comprehensive disassemble and reassembly videos; and practice before this upgrade.
Watched this 6 times finally did mine,,,, took 2 hrs! But I’m no gun smith,,,plus searching for dropped springs and spacers took most of my time,😂 your great graphic gave me confidence to do it ! Thank you!
One important detail that's included in the write-up, but NOT explained in the video is that the Sear Spacer is ONLY used on the 22/45 version. This was giving me fits during the install until I realized my mistake. Triggger is 100x better though, great kit.
I noticed slight differences between this and my gun. And I didn’t get a spacer just the larger sleeve.
TY for that info! I was trying for over an hour to try to wiggle it and even sanding the spacer with fine grit. This should be the top comment!
Just did the install with no education in gunsmithing, only this great video. Piece of cake and the Volquartsen trigger is gorgeous! Thank you Chad for the spot-on demonstration!
That's great to hear! Thank you for sharing.
Just installed this, disconnect or, and a new firing pin and extractor on my Mark III 22/45 lite. Dealing with all those little parts wasn’t easy. I had trouble aligning the sear and it’s pin and getting the safety on the pin and keeping it in place while i put the hammer on. I ended up using brass punches as alignment tools which made it easier for me. But wow what a difference significant reduced pre travel crisp light break and no excess over travel. And the trigger reset is very short. It was a good gun before but now it’s awesome!
Best trigger install video I’ve ever seen by far. Also possibly the best install video I’ve ever seen. Well done. 👏🏻
This trigger is awesome took 40 mins to install. The part that was hard to see was the sear spring make sure you install it down and in to the handle cut out. Everything else was cake.
That was an awesome video and presentation.
Great foolproof Video! :) Just installed the kit in my wife´s Mark IV 22/45. Works great! Greetings from Frankfurt, Germany!
Great to hear!
I just installed this kit in May Mark IV Competition. Before triger pull was 5 lbs, after triger pull is at 2.2 lbs. A night and day difference.
That's great to hear!
Excellent video! Made the installation very easy. Thanks!
With this very well done video my install into my Hunter was by the book perfection.
Thanks, from a very happy customer!
Great to hear!
This was a great walk through!
Success!!!
After i figured out which bushing for the hammer. SO MUCH BETTER THAN FACTORY!
Perfect guide, was little bit trickier then the video thought 😁 but now got a much better trigger on my ruger mk4 😁😁
Great to hear!
DO NOT USE THE PROVIDED ALLEN WRENCHES, I almost rounded my right safety screw because of their bad soft allen wrenches... Use a good quality one, and make sure you heat up this screw if you feel any resistance !
Other than that I'm VERY happy with this kit, the original Ruger Mark IV trigger is very bad imo. This + tandemkross trigger feels great ! In France we pay 950€ for this gun brand new, oof
I rounded mine. Now what?
Edit - was able to get the allen screw out with the help of a soldering iron and a different allen wrench. Apply the iron directly to the screw (but not too much, or you'll melt the safety lever), and it should come out.
procrastinating putting this on because i was a little scared. this wasn't too bad! range day is tomorrow :D
great to hear!
I'm going to be watching this video step by step when I try to install this
don't hesitate to reach out to us if you have any questions!
Outstanding video
The hammer bushing spacers - you tell us there are 2 but not which to use for each model. Also, you should note in the video that you don't use the spacer between the sear spring and sear. Because the sear spring spacer will fit, but it's VERY difficult. Then the gun does not work and you have to take it back apart.
He says he's using a 22/45 and the video shows the thinner washer goes on, which means the thicker washer is for the regular MKIV. Yes, that should be more clear. I used needle nose pliers to grip the sear in the center groove without blocking the hole, then pushed it into place, first over the spacer washer so it wouldn't drop out, then i wiggled the pin back out a little at a time until the sear went over the pin. Wasn't easy and it took me a few attempts.
Outstanding video!
I just finished adding the install of this kit on my Mark IV 22/45
I was not as fast as you but I was able to complete it easily
wow what a difference it made in my accuracy money well spent.
Wish I had this kit after taking my Mark IV apart. Well at least taking it apart and putting it together isn't too complicated.
At around ~10:30 if you can't get the hammer to go back, the floppy bit on the bottom of the hammer needs to go into that divet/hole thing to provide tension. If it's not in that divet/hole, it will not move or the safety will not move correctly.
They missed a step in the callout, the floppy hammer secondary bit needs to go in that divet and should've been called out in simpler language and maybe a CG shot.
If you can't get the hammer to cock back, this should solve the issue.
I did put that free floating thing into the little silver hole. I still cannot make the hammer stay down, so it wont go into safety, the hammer will always pop straight upp immediately, ...
It seems that I ACTUALLY lost those smallest parts... The Safety Detent Spring (27 in the instruction manual) and the Safety Detent Plunger (28), those who has to go into the Safety (26)... It is not inside the Safety and I can't find them anywhere on the floor etc... Does that explain my hammer malfunction, I really lost those two small part, classic comedy
If you have a Ruger Mark 1 through 3, you know the importance of getting the hammer strut into the main spring. 😁
Put the floppy thing in the hole? 🤔 hmmm, I shall get the wife for that as she's alot better with that sorta stuff as without her help I feel like a retard humpin a door knob 😂. I swear it's due to my ED an not her 40yr oddly saggy but fluffy dog of a body! But the dand broad can cook like a pro though! I love her cookin an the kiddo ain't 18 yet an not tryna pay child support so I gotta deal with it for now 😢 but once 3 more years till my boy is 18 an on his bday I'm 100% gonna catch atleast 1 STD, depending on how many fine younger strippers or prostitutes I can get for atleast 2,400$ atm that I been savin up an hidden inside my Rifle bag lol🎉. This is way to long an not sure why I said the words above......😅
Chipping to Europe and the price its self wasnt small, but the diference is amaizing. Definitely worth bying it. The trigger is nice, smooth, chrispy almost like CZ. Love my Ruger Again :-) ...btw Video manual is fantastic, thank you!
Video probably needs a few updates such as where the bottom of the sear spring ends up... I put it in the window.. also maybe do a video for a kraken install..kraken sear had some creep... This kit fixed that issue...
I got 22/45. Came with 2 spacers (white and black). Which one goes where?
i would like to know if sear spring goes into the magazine well or behind and also which bushing is used for a 22 mark iv hunter . your video does not show where it is going into and it can go either place. i think paper install instruction on that part would be helpful thank you
The 3D schematic is great. Would be nice to have one done for the MKII and MK III.
Yea, I used TNP footage to get comfortable with the teardown on the mkiii Nutnfancy has some great videos on these pistols
Can you guys do something with the sr22?
I have a mark iv 22/45 lite an didn’t need the spacer in between the sear and sear spring is this normal for this model ?
Which hammer bushing spacer do you use for the 22/45 or the regular Mark IV?
b
thick 45 thin mk4
7:28 I have way too many questions about setting the spring tension for the seer it’s unbelievable. Everything else in the video ended up working out alright in terms of a clear description, except for this part.

Nice animations
I bought my MKiv 22/45 used with the Volquartsen kit already installed. Today at the range it appears the sear spring got behind the sear and the sear would not engage the hammer. This video helped get it back where it needed to be. Thank you!! Any thoughts as to how that happened?
Great! Hmm...that may have been something to do with the sear spacer or spring installed incorrectly.
Good stuff and works very well. My only gripe is the supplied Allen keys are NOT suitable and metric while the screws, the slide release in particular, are imperial and using the supplied Allen keys destroys the screws. No reply AT ALL from customer service.....
Is it normal for the bolt stop to be loose and wiggling after the installation?
Some cheap HF locking forceps were a lot easier to use than needle nose pliers.
There are many different kinds of mark4. Which one do you recommend?
I have a 22/45 Mark lV I don’t have a spacer for the sear.
Installed this the other day on my 22/45 lite. Went to the range and it will fire the first round but then won’t chamber the second round. After re racking the second round it runs flawless. Any ideas?
it'd be best to shoot us a message at tech@volquartsen.com - thanks!
barrel will not assemble now? trigger appears to be functioning. any suggestions
The upper is not latching to the frame?
Wow thats stainless mark 4 22/45 stainless is it available now?
It is just a stainless target model barrel and bolt on a 22/45 frame.... I've been swapping my 22/45 and target barrels and frames around to get a perfect gun, and I really like the 22/45 lite barrel with a compensator on the heavier target model stainless steel frame.
I am struggling putting the sear in. The spacer keeps falling out and I don't have a third hand to push it against the spring. It's really a tight fit there. Any suggestions?
Throw the sear spacer away if you don't have the 22/45
Put a dab of Vaseline on it , also on safety detent and spring , did this a hundred times , at least !
I successfully installed the trigger shoe, but now nothing happens when I pull the trigger.
Now I have a Mark IV paper weight.
For all of you doing this by yourselves, you are on another level! What would be a fair price for a gun store to charge to do this? Can you buy these kits in Canada? I have only been able to find American sites and those import fees are a kick in the teeth.
Got estimates from 40-150 USD. Ended up DIY using small needle nose and the provided Allen wrenches to guide from the reverse side also blue painters tape to keep pins from falling out was helpful.
If anyone is wondering how difficult this is. If you've assembled an AR, you can do this. Took me about 45 minutes only watching this video. Only tools I had were a small flat head screwdriver, and some needle nose pliers.
needed to read this thanks
I would’ve liked to have seen him test a trigger for poundage
Which hammer bushing is used for the mkiv target ?? Fat or thin ??
There are two spacers included in the kit: one for the 22/45 and one for the standard mark iv.... which goes to the 22/45 and which to the standard???
Start with the thinner spacer first, if there appears to be extra room you can use the thicker spacer.
Not a single drop of lubrication?
I could not get that washer installed when installing the sear... I guess that's why there's a 3d video during that part of the video? I spent hours trying to get that thing in there, and when I looked around at other videos nobody used that washer/spacer. What's up with that?
This is happening to me right now. I’m going to skip it too for now
Did it work? Any issues?
@@smurfkilla369 I actually haven't been shooting with it since I installed it. I think it's going to be fine though. We'll see!
The spacer is not used on a Mark IV only on a 22/45.
@@tiffanyprice862 Thanks! I feel a little better now!
Dam. Glad i read comments, i thought this was all being done to take off the right side saftey 😮
Well, you can definitely do THAT yourself! They supply instructions and I think a little bushing with the new gun.
What does this cost for a Ruger Mark IV Target? Assuming you do the work?
Thanks.
Oh, also, how would I mount a Holson green dot on this gun?

The kit is 152 + 105 if we do the installation.
Easy did it in about 30 mins this am.
I am a new Mark IV owner and heard of the trigger up grade. Where can I buy the upgrade kit and is there a kit #number?? Thanks

My hammer drops as soon as the safety lever is disengaged. What did I do wrong?
Same. I put it back to original, and id doesnt do it at all. Ever found out why?
@@donquidang I had the same thing happening. Realized I put the sear in the wrong way, and perhaps the sear spring, too. The sear is supposed to be pushed back by the sear spring. Found another video which shows it more clearly and how to assess whether you've installed it the right way. ua-cam.com/video/YB9EmYwDyzg/v-deo.html
Followed the video exactly and installed in my mkiv 22/45 and it will no longer cock, so the safety won't engage, so I can no longer disassemble it.
You didn't get the dumb little free floating thing on the hammer in that silver looking hole. Overlooked step by them
@@cakeeee4 Dude, why so technical?! ;-)
@@garyshepard7881 😂
Sear spring goes in handle would be nice lol ...other than that this videos worked for me
@Kolya Parker It either goes down into the handle or down into the mag well. I'm thinking that the mag well would be a bad place to have a spring so I'm going with down into the handle.
Please be more clear on what is used on the standard or 22/45.
How much does Volquartsen charge to install the parts?
$100 (plus shipping)
@@volquartsencustom Thank you for your help
Are yall still doing installs?
yes we are - click "Parts" and then "Services" on our website!
@volquartsencustom you need to watch a sigguy video on installing parts, he gives important tips through the video, you need to tell people to make sure the sear spring doesnt just face down, that it actually goes back behind the mag cavity, magwell. i put it all together and almost bent the spring as it was in the magwell. also explain to use the black spacer during the sear install and explain the actual size difference to use for a 22/45 and a mk iv spacer. here are the sizes below as you are your to lazy to do a proper video and include these very important tips.
MKIV: 0.0475" (1.20mm)
22/45: 0.070" (1.79mm)
black space for sear.
Definitely have to send this in, too many tiny parts 😁
Getting all of those tiny parts to stay in place while putting the pins through them was a challenge but it made a world of difference.
Piece of cake.
Way better than trying to put the gun back together with the ruger factory parts!
That's not a fun job.
I was able to install this kit in under 10 minutes.
Because of the 2 times I took the gun completely apart.
Is it ok to fry fire with this trigger?
The concern around dry fire is primarily the firing pin peening from striking the chamber - this kit would be all internal trigger components. Ruger mentions it's ok to dry fire their pistols, but we'd still recommend a snap cap if it's more than occasional.
Using animations installing the sear spring instead of actual footage is mis leading. Need to show it actually being done.
Hi, Chad!
Why the dramatic music.
What really sucks I cannot purchase a Ruger Mark IV, I live in California
You might consider moving to a free state. Heard a rumor: If the Republicans take back the White House and Congress, “the wall” could continue up the east side of California 🤷🏼♂️
@@gholmes5404 Funny, since California is very red, except for four stinking libtard cities.
You can now lol
3D is good but they completely screw up when they don’t tell you which spacers to put in small or big
hello all, going to put this in a mark4 22/45 lite. which waser/spacer do i use? thanks for any comments.
The smaller one
@@EnricoSWE thank you. i installed it with the small one. what a trigger improvement. shoots easy. to all who might want one,get one...
Need to make it clearer that the 22/45 is the only one that needs a sear spacer.
The 22/45 Light is ILLEGAL in Washington State because of the threaded barrel
Not a chance I will be doing this myself 🙃
We can definitely take care of the installation for you!
@@volquartsencustom This is definitely the best news I've had lately. It looks like this will make the MK IV into the thing we thought it was in the first place! And if it does, won't that be a treat?
Ohh jeezuz... I just threw everything against the wall because of the stupid spacer that is NOT USED in mk IV - WTF bros get your videos together...That ONE little tidbit would have saved 2 hours of frustration. thanks..
He DID cover that.
so if I do it myself, I will save myself 105?$
Installation service is an additional 105 on top of the MSRP of the kit and is optional yes.
Bro, I’m not trying this myself. No way. That’s what you pay a gunsmith for
You can't find a real gunsmith anymore. The so called gunsmith at the local shops will F IT UP worse then u doing it. Just take ur time and have several laptops and I pads going and u will get it. Yes it is challenging but u will have a nice sense of accomplishment when it all clicks together. Then u will start to tackle other projects on other type guns. Fun stuff.

“It’s really not that complicated, but I’m not actually going to do it, here’s an oversimplified CGI video”
That's due to the difficulty of being able to capture the process on camera while being able to see what's going on with the internal components at the same time.
NOT For Me...
I will never understand how you can say this is a simple modification ???? If it is not reinstalled properly, this is a dangerous upgrade for a rookie !!!!!!
If you're used to taking guns apart more than for simple cleaning this isn't that bad. I just bought a mkiv 22/45 and I've had it 2 hours and installed this kit following the video. Granted the MKIV is a pain to re-assemble at a couple points, like the safety and sear pin but it's not that difficult. They left out quite a few little details in the video that I managed to figure out but I can see that being confusing for some. Like where exactly the sear spring goes, which spacer for which model, and where the hammer rod sits.
Really great video!
Made it to the sear and got stuck. Would prefer an actual demonstration over 3d.
Do NOT base your installation completely on the illustrations of this video. You might be turned around by the depiction of a rivet head or the use of a spacer. One should also refer to the Volquartsen still photos and captions to figure out the sear and hammer installation.
Installation of which spacers to use was as clear as mud. 😤
Well I finished the install despite the installation video. Very nice trigger pull.
Is the sear suppose to be forward while installing hammer? This video is not a novice video.😡
probably too late to respond, yes the sear needs to be foreward .the safety has a notch to hold it while you put the hammer in and install the safety pin through.
