      those new headlights look like they were taken from a 992... can we try to get the name of the company who makes the headlights the guy in your video has on his car? they are absolutely awesome, where the one you are suggesting seem to have been taken from a newer 911 which i am sure the people here do not want :-)) @@thedevthing

    It’s a funny thing about a Porsche, there’s the moment you know you want one, there’s the moment you first own one, and for the truly afflicted, there’s the decade or two that passes in between.

    I’ve owned my 997.2 C4S 6-sp cab for close to 10 years and have never tired of the car. It’s a beautiful, balanced car and inspires confidence every time I sit in it. I recently added an 86 3.2 M491 targa - superb car - to my collection and another keeper. They are recognisably similar cars but the driving experience is unique in each. I’m still learning to drive the 86 and getting comfortable with it. Old school 915 transmission which I’m surprisingly really enjoying. Feels like a throwback to porsche racing history and a very close connection to the transmission and engine. Feel blessed and hope to inspire my son to keep these cars (and the others - classic Alfas) when the time comes to pass them on! Good video - thank you from Kuala Lumpur! Best, David

    I love these kinds of videos. I remember seeing one of your first videos when you were up at the lookout in Gatineau Park.
    The 997, the last Porsche where when you popped the engine lid, you can actually see an engine, much like my 993 Carrera but unlike my 991.1 Carrera 4 GTS, both manuals. The more sophisticated these cars become, they seem to be aimed at "key turners", a phrase I coined well over a decade ago because the newer these Porsches get, owners get them serviced instead of working on them which I find so enjoyable.
    Some of us Porsche fanatics start early, as in when I was 10 years old and it took 42 years to own my first Porsche, thanks to an accident where my motorcycle got hit from behind (damn mobile phone user) while I was stopped in traffic during my annual Alps motorcycle tours. Life can be short so time to get the car I always wanted. I can relate to that Porsche Commercial video at 7:05. I downloaded that video ages ago; it is a keeper. That and "An Early 911" video on UA-cam. Some of us are really Porsche obsessed having been to the Porsche museums a few times each as well as the location of where the first 356 was built in Gmünd in Kärnten, Austria. I also stopped in at the summer residence of Porsche where the small chapel on their property laid to rest the family that passed away. Many owners have no idea what Ferdinand Porsche and his son Ferry had to go through during two wars, the jail time and struggles. So many books on the history of the owner and the make that anyone that is obsessed should read.
    Most Porsche owners are picky but that guy who did the Gundo Hack at 9:30 needs to learn how to weld. Hell, my oxy-acetylene welds look as good as any TIG weld.
    Love looking at some of the garages and their size in your videos. I have two 911s and four motorcycles in a standard 19x19 foot garage and trust me, it is tight. LOL But not bad for a guy that grew up on the other side of the tracks.
    Glad to see Peter found the car that he always wanted. Now lets see how long he hangs onto it.

    super clean car. absolutely love it. those wheels are so satisfying to look at, the machine work is so detailed. lot of engineering went into those. (I'm a CNC Machinist btw) refinement does so much more for me than the dollar figures and wow factor. nice display of your skills with the Outro too.

    My 2005 Carrera looks exactly like this one -- less yellow calibers and belts -- and I can tell you from experience, the driving feel is awesome. A classic and modern car all rolled into one. Also, notice that his (as well as mine) rear wing stays concealed at speed to preserve the classic look. Point to ponder: 2005 = easily fixed ims.

    Excellent video, phenomenal imagery. If your a car guy, and a Porsche guy, this is amazing stuff. I was lucky enough to just purchase a 997.2 myself, in triple black. This video has inspired me to grab my camera and start taking some pictures. I love Porsches, always have since i worked at a dealer as an 18 year old, detailing cars. I used to take 911’s that were rough and make them pristine by buffing the entire car, then polish, then old school wax (the days, no Teflon or ceramic). Porsches always has such great quality paint, they usually turned out well. I learn new things in every video i watch, and i leaned a few things on this one. So thank you!

      @Prabhul Dev I'm looking at a 997.1 but, I'm not sure if the IMS bearing has been replaced. The car looks great but, the price for a rebuild if the bearing hasn't been replaced keeps me at bay.

    • @thedevthing
      @thedevthing  Рік тому +2

      If you look through some of the comments some are saying that all the 997.2 are safe.
      But the way I have been a looking at since my initial research is that all the 997 turbos are bullet proof. The one from 2011 onwards are safe too. Porsche had fixed the IMS issues from 2011 on. Some say it was earlier. But I play it safe with 2011 onwards.
      At the same time when you do the PPI the mech might be able to check that for you.
      Good luck on your hunt 🙌😃

    • @911obsessed
      @911obsessed Рік тому +1

      @@darrelltuttle8298 The failure rate of the IMS is low, especially on 2006+ cars, however there is always a small risk. Replacing the IMS with an upgraded deaign on 2005 cars that have the smaller bearing design is great insurance and piece of mind. The 997.2 (2009+) cars have a completely redesigned motor that has 40% less components and no IMS, also cases of bore scoring are significantly decreased.

      😂😂😂 glad you enjoyed the video. 997s are the last of the analog machine from Porsche. The 991 went onto electric steering and 991.2 did away with NA and went turbo. Such a shame.
      There are rumours that 911 with an NA motor is coming for the 992.2 . That will be interesting

    I just love Porsches from this era.
    987, 997 are the last analog Porsche. Starting from 991,981 body became bigger, interior and the key fob became modern and they lost the hydrolic steering. I do love the later models of Porsche but I think 987.2, 997.2 are the best design and gives better driving experience.
