      I live in Canada and have a kid that has played AAA for years. This kid has some skill for his age - no doubt about that - and could be the next ‘Sid the Kid’ or McDavid. But there’s a long road ahead and a lot of hard work, luck, genetics, and commitment are required to keep climbing the ladder.
      Good luck to the kid. I hope he has fun at every stage!
      To mom and dad - congrats on supporting your son. Keep it all in perspective and have fun. The hardest thing for top kids is the inevitable experience of not being the top kid anymore. As you climb the ladder and competition improves, the gap narrows and equivalent or better players seem to come out of nowhere. Being the best at 7 is great. Being the best at 20 is the start of a career in hockey. Two very different things. Something to remember along the way. Good luck!

Sorry, but off camera I see these parents trying to get this kid to do anything it takes.

    “I coach players ages 7-18, and he is by far the strongest skater.” He is definitely an amazing skater for his age, but I’m only 13, and in every game I play, there are at least 5-6 kids that are better skaters than him. I don’t even play that high of a level of hockey.

    • @RByrne
      @RByrne 2 роки тому

      Yo, so true. I never even played rep but at his age there were kids on my team that were far better than him. So he loves the game...big deal. So did I. But I sucked. I scored one goal in 2 seasons because I plowed into a kid, knocking him out, then made a lucky shot.
      His parents are just trying to hype him up to get his UA-cam channel going. Even his trainers don't give him credit, they say"yeah, we train slow so he learns.., he works hard and hopefully, when he's older he'll develop a shot". He can't even get the puck off the ice.

    All these drills and training are great for developing good hockey players early on. But you never really know how good these kids will be when other elite players catch up. Specifically, in the Bantam age level. That’s where checking is introduced (USA). At that age you cannot solely just rely on your skill to have success. You have to have a great hockey IQ. Hockey IQ is huge… And it isn’t something that can be easily taught. You either have it or you don’t. That can make or break you as a player playing at the higher levels.
