- I've owned this 1968 Dodge D100 shortbox pickup for several years. I picked it up as a project and got it back on the road. However, after several years of use and abuse she's seen better days! Let's see if we can't get this thing back up and running! If you're interested in this pickup it's available but I'm pretty proud of it. If you don't like the price, keep your comments to yourself. It's $6500 for this pickup in the as seen condition of this video. As always, thanks for watching!

I don't comment on videos on UA-cam, but I finally had to. I am currently deployed and have been binge watching your videos in my free time. I just want to say I really enjoy your videos. I enjoy working on vehicles in my own garage when I'm at home. Watching your videos make me feel like I'm in the garage tinkering with old cars with you. I have also learned a thing or two. You definitely deserve more subscribers then you have. Keep up the awesome videos. Don't change what your doing, I have watched other channels and unfortunately they don't do what they used to anymore.
Much appreciated and thanks for your service!
I agree I look forward to every upload from him He's very knowledgeable Wish I was half as good as he is
@@MortskeRepair Thank you for the support and the reply I appreciate it. Also, alcohol is illegal where I am so have a sammich for me!
@@americanpatriot3638 thank you for the support, it's very appreciated.
@@user-KrackerJack unfortunately I have stopped watching a few channels on UA-cam due to them completely changing. In all the videos I have watched from Mortske, he stays the same. The length of the uploads are awesome too, like watching a full length movie about working on cars!
There’s only one King baby!
THE DOTSUN KING C'MON
The uhaul cab on the datsun is awesome man, looking forward to more videos

Between mortske and pfs you both deserve much more subscribers as sometime your content really does ""CATCH ON"" whether its catchin on fans (not us fans btw) or just catching on "" 💥🔥👀🔥💥""

Yee hawwww!
The main problem with doing donuts in the snow: one minute you're on the road looking at the scenery, the next minute, your in the scenery looking at the road. Really like this truck. Didn't realize the slant six was such a mini powerhouse. 👍
I've owned two and they were one of the most reliable engines ever made.
Yep, everythings fun and games until the rearend of the vehicle you're driving passes ya!
The leaning tower of power, lol
I listened to your explanation of the machine work needed on the original six and why you weren't doing it. Then I heard the lady say "ain't nobody got time for that!" and I understood.
You need her in the shop, but if Duff says there is no money to hire her, can you imagine her as Speaker of the House, in Washington D.C.?
"Ain't nobody got time for that". Beautiful!
God bless you Mortske! You save me on a monday.
Things I will always like about your videos
1. Your side clips always make me laugh
2. Very informative and fun to watch
3. You always reply to our comments and when you get too popular I’m sure that might change but I’ll still be here
Much appreciated!
@@MortskeRepair can we get a best of mortske clip side ? If I was you edited I should have done that while ago .. I don't have all you data but I'm sure if I out the time in like a watched 30 hour of you video in the last week I coukd have record side clip ...you should do it ..make some best of mortske with some unstock engine ,explosion and broken valves .. mix with side clip ... You and Puddin saves many people's Monday!! Ty sir!!
Absolutely 💯
My dad was a certified master mechanic at the vw dealership in Juneau AK for many, many, years. He aquired 16 vehicles..our family loves the classics as much as you!!
Nice!
I’d like to see a budget engine rebuild on the old leaning Tower of power. Keep up the good work. Love the channel!
Do you watch uncle Tony's garage? Very knowledgeable about Mopar.
I just rebuilt one 2 years ago. Not much "budget" about them any more! Parts are getting harder to come by.
Drove one of these for the Navy back in 1984-85, in Florida, except it was a Power Wagon field ambulance repurposed as an electrical service truck. Had only 14,000 on the odo, a slant six and 4-speed. More than once I pulled the lineman's huge bucket truck out of deep sand, to save his pride from calling motor pool for a tow. An unassuming yet unstoppable beast!
"That's what happens when you drive a Mopar one time" lol that was great. This seems like a good truck really. Fix a few more things, like the heater and maybe some snow tires on it and this could be a fun daily. I'd like seeing this thing as a recurring project where you fix this or that and make it into a reliable driver.
I remember my Dad had old Internationals (early 50's), then one day in '68, he came home and got me, then we went to the Dodge dealer in our small town. I got to drive our new 68 250 with the 318, 4 speed truck transmission, and overload springs, no a/c.....,no power steering, basic work truck. The color was like a turquoise or something, but soon that summer we also got 2, deuce and a halves, brand new, electric "split shift" 💥💥💥 bam.!. They would end up as tanker trucks for Dad's crop dusting business. Excellent vehicles back then. I loved the old Power Wagons also. 👍🙏
The yellow paint on the replacement slant six (if it's original) means it is an industrial slant six, like what you'd find in a combine or forklift. You've got yourself a forged crankshaft! Also, they supposedly have valve rotators and roller timing chain with steel gears instead of nylon. The red intake is from a passenger car up to the late 60s (pre-EGR days).
Interesting!
My uncle bought one like that at a auction decades ago, \6 and 3 on the tree. His was dark blue with the outline of US Air Force on the doors. I loved Ol' Blue it got real fun after the RB swaps.
Nice!
I'm glad you bowed to the pressure and made a project type video. You picked my favorite too, 68-71 Sweptlines are GOOD! I hope the views are enough to keep doing these. I had the video playing while working and the two hours went by super fast.
I hope so too!
Same! Love the grills on the 68 and 69’s
It's true. Wasn't a armchair, but a big oak tree and a empty case of leinenkugels. Life took another road but your videos take me home to that tree again. Thank you for that. And I'm not that damn old.
Glad to hear it!
One reason a Slant Six is so tough, the block molds were originally thicker to allow for Aluminum castings, Chrysler decided to go iron instead. They did not change the molds so this resulted in a heavy duty cast iron block.
Interesting!
I believe that to be true. I've always wondered, if they would have cast them in aluminum, would it have been worth making a mirror image version? Some slant to the left and others to the right? The idea being it's not a big jump to an aluminum V12 from there... Of course, they had the hemi, so why bother. Forgive me, my mind wanders sometimes...
@@solomonlynn7456 Oh you know they probably tried it!
@@MortskeRepair Trivia: During initial development, the slant was designed without an oil pump. Keep in mind, this engine went into development when most inline sixes were still "splash" lubricated. Rumour has it that when Chevy's little stovebolt 235 got an oil pump in what... '56? Chrysler decided that their "new" engine would need an oil pump too. It was all about keeping costs at a minimum. No hydraulic valve lifters until 1980!
@@That_AMC_Guy I think once the put a Powerglide in, 1951 maybe, you could get a "full pressure" 235.
Yep alot of foo foo videos out there. Mortske and Puddin are my main one's to watch. Keeping it old school. Thank you for your service.
Glad you like them!
Great video, (Probably tired of me saying that , but they are) really enjoy learning about the old vehicles. Being 60 I saw a lot of these in better shape, wish I knew more back in the day. Please keep producing these as you can, I know it takes a lot of work, but I really appreciate it. I hear you always second guessing about what to show, but you are picking well, I like the long videos also, more time the more I learn. Thanks again for the hard work, tell Duff hi and see you soon! Tim L. MN
Much appreciated on the kind words Tim!
Yep! Im 62. When we were kids we beat the snot outta those GTOs, Chevelles, 442s like theres no tomorrow ! Now those cars are worth a pile of money. Like you said I wish I knew then what I know now! Lol!
@@michaelcuff5780 Exactly!
Love that truck. Reminds me of a 1961 d100 I bought back in 1977 from a farmer in Georgia with a poly 318 rapping. Like you we bought an abandoned 1971 Fury 111 and used almost everything into the old pickup, from interior parts steering wheel. front seat, to LA style 318, radiator, etc. Truck had no body rot. After cleanup and driving for a few months, a person approached me and bought the old girl. Made some money and bought another vehicle. That truck also had a 12" hydraulic clutch. That truck did become a screamer after it was finished.
Hey I love the snap on compression tester if you remove Schrader valves and clean them up your Guage will hold pressure. Same valve as your tires use
Enjoyed as always. Like the live shows. We the audience love Duff, and sort of like you.
I was always told to zero the wrench to avoid stressing the spring. Meaning toque wrench stays accurate.
Yup!
On all except Stahlwill! They are different, and also only one made for Aircraft and medical equipment use.
Worthless knowledge, but damn good wrench. It’s like the Mopar of wrenches!
@@volvobrynk is that you Torque Wrench King?
😂
@@scottb926 there’s a joke there, and I’m to dumb to get it 😜
I annoy my colleagues with that kind of trivia!
Often in the air force (or at lest some air forces) they have a bunch of pre-set wrenches, in frequently used specs/values.
And I’m no king, not even king of hobos, although I look like one 😎✌️
@@volvobrynk Intersting!
Only way to make mondays ok. Mortske and duff. Wouldn’t be able to start the week without u guys.
Woohoo! Love some mortske on a Monday !!!!
Never been a fan of the old Dodge pick ups,but THE KING is purty cool. The right wheels and the right stance for sure.Glad you got him on the road again!
You need one of the spring chokes that go in the intake and work off engine temp. If you had that choke those engines are so easy to start in the dead of winter you don't have to crank it over much at all but that's the choke you need on those engines trust me I have two leaning tower of power one a 67 and another 1979 Super Six with the 2bbl carb and they both start like EFI in the dead of winter even after sitting a week or two.
This is true. An auto-choke that's working correctly will beat a manual choke every time b/c it constantly makes miNUTE adjustments.
I always called it a "stove" choke, lol.
Really enjoy your videos. My dog and I start every morning watching You and Duff.
Two things I noticed in this video.
1) when you use a timing light you need to disconnect and plug the vacuum advance before reading the advance.
This is what you compare to the value in the repair manual.
2) when an engine is running rough like this one was the first thing I would do is a dynamic power balance test which is just pulling one plug wire at a time from the cap to see how much difference it makes in the engine rpm then put it back in.
You need some pliers made for this or risk getting zapped but on old cars especially it quickly tells which cylinder is causing the problem.
Mortske Monday FTW
Best way to start a Monday morning
The leaning tower is dependable..I had a Duster back in the day with a slant 6...
I eventually put a 318 in it cause a 17 yr old wants more power always.. but the leaning tower never failed me .
Ended up getting rid of my slant 6 duster because my dad wouldnt let me swap it for a 318
@@thisguy2720 ..
I wanted to put a 383 in it , but they were much more money...
I bought the 318 for $50..lol.
@@pdrphil8159 I figured I'd have more luck asking for a 318. Still didnt happen. Wasnt a bad little car. Wasnt a big fan of the 4 wheel manual drum brakes though lol
@@thisguy2720
I hit a deer with mine doing 65/70 & totaled it..
I had just put dual exhaust on it & new tires & rims...
It was deer season & at 2 am , I hit a huge buck broadside..
Made me sick..
But in those days you could buy cars for a few hundred , so I bought a 73 chevelle ..
Loved it...
Came to the where i live in a '74 Dodge Adventurer Club cab 3 /4ton. it had a 460. Beautiful Truck. Parked at my first place in on Vancouver Island and set about finding work to no avail,
and then had to move. and moved in with my Brother in the course of this my truck disappeared. Thank you BC
Thanks for another great episode! Price seems right for what you've got. Pretty cool Sweptline, they ain't making no more of them for sure. Slant 6 motors are very (in my experience) touchy on timing... appreciate you showing all the little adjustments it takes to get one running..
You bet
And Duff, filled with trepidation, nervously paces, considering alternative food sources. Good job, Mortske.
Thanks Fred!
just finished work in my shop and a new Mortske video is online :)
Perfect timing!
Cant think of a better way to start my Monday morning.
Duff and that channel of yours deserves quite a bit more recognition. 100k subs minimum easily. True car guy
Thanks much!
Love the videos. I start work at 11ish so your monday morning videos are the best thing, you time it great! Right after the kids go to school!
Good deal!
Dubsky and morski you got it goin on can't forget the putting ski great job
Long live the King. You do whatever type of project you want. I am in every time. 👍🏼
The BEST old junk mechanic channel to watch when one's waiting for parts to arrive!! That's a great unintentional tech tip of the day at 1:36:30 If it's stuck in the snow cuz bald tires, just adjust the idle waaaay high. leave it in gear, and get out and push. LOL. The way you cut that bolt made me wince more than when you hit your fingers on the fan. Reminded me of my old shop teacher, Mr. Stumpy.
Bahahaha
Good show MULLET MORTSKE! Love that truck! Your the king of revival's when their not stuck!
Thanks 👍
Love the old trucks! Another very enjoyable video, thank you for the entertainment! Luff the Duffer, he's awesome!
Our pleasure!
Woo-hoo! Sweptline time! I'm partial to my 318's, whether Poly or LA, but still hold a fond place in my heart for the ol' slant six. It was on one of them I learned that it really matters which wire is going to which plug. On my very first ever plug change, didn't pay ANY attention to which wire went where, figured "they all got spark" and just hooked 'em up, and it was no bueno. I was learned good after that.
That’s how you learn!
318’s are pretty dang solid motor as well
Mondays are great starting the week out right!! Morske in the morning ,and puddin in the evening makes Monday's GREAT!!
Funny you mention a mouth guard,.......I was doing an alignment on a 1 ton Chevy van and had to use a "crow's foot" to get to the shim holder nut on the upper control arm. Of course it was rusty and would not budge without "too much pressure". I know it was too much because the crow's foot slipped and rocketted out of it right into my front teeth. Broke one halfway off, just enough so the little nerve could dangle out of it. Unplanned trip to the dentist that day. That was 30 years ago and the repair is still holding up. (On the tooth that is), I hope the van is in a landfill somewhere.
DANG!!!
Love watching your videos! Love that truck!! You make removing and replacing an engine look very easy- I’m just now removing a inline 6 that’s stuck -from a CJ5 to replace with a running engine. Your video inspires me. And I’m a 60 year old gal 👍🏻😊
Glad to hear it Kammy!
This really is a place of learning, this ain't college stuff, it's ass on cold floors and gashed knuckles - thanks mortske - you know your chops!
Much obliged, Ian.
Thanks again Ian!
Marathon Monday's with Mortske and The Duffer-Man. This weeks episode King Petty Blue with Labatt's Blue King-Can's...
We join our fearless leader already in progress....
The King is back !!!! Yes project every channel has one . We're not asking you to turn into Half-ass customs lol . But one project vehicle would be KeWl ! Hey Duff
You know if you don't change the O rings on the spark plug tubes often these things become real leakers. The top of the tube where the O ring is seats against is sheat metal any way so you asking a lot for them to stay clean any way. I love the 225 they are as bullet proof as they come.
Great info!
Sweet little truck! Glad you stayed with the slant 6 and granny trans!
Now here's a project ....Woo Hoo ! I've always been curious about people's Lives based on their locations, ( Having spent most of my life driving Truck Canada- US ),....After more than a year I have finally figured out where you are in North Dakota...Starts with the letter F . Ordered a Polo Shirt For ridin' around on the V -Twin this summer!
Much appreciated for the purchase!
Back in the day I had a Dart 225 3 on the tree. It wouldn't die. Great car I used it all through college and years beyond until I got broadsidedl Nice job put a clutch in it and some real tires. She will live on for some time. Rich from NJ😀
Duff 🐕 is the best! Thanks Duff for keeping Mortzke in line!
Hey mortsky. I'm always happy when it's Monday. Because then we have a new video from you. It's A nice car and drives well. A lot of work you had done . Keep on going. I like duff. Make your channel big. God bless
Thanks again!
Good one buddy! Yall keep em running up there and stay warm. It's about to get cold in West Texas! Two thumbs up 👍!
I have watched you channel for years, first time to comment, as I am dealing with the COVID and binge watching. Love you and Duff! Carona Deghand is watching too from FB!
Much appreciated Craig!
That series of Dodge truck is my favorite body style. Living in Texas they do not rust away and I would like to find one with the six and three on the tree and air conditioning. People who have them here keep them.
Great to see the King back in the road. Such a “neat” truck. Keep up the great work Mortske & Duff!
Thanks! Will do!
How neat is that!!??!
best channel on youtube. out of all my subscriptions only Mortske can makes mondays bearable. now drop a 383 in it!
Much appreciated Alec! Slant six stays tho!
Thank you. Love what you do! Cheers Duff 🙂
Much appreciated!

I liked the comment about the location of the ignition switch!! I'm not a Mopar fan but I like the simple styling of the truck and the bulletproof motor. Its a joy watching you get old cars and trucks running again.
Yeah, they're great for working on!
Darn it Mortske! Every time I watch a video of yours I want another car/truck I don’t have time, room or money for!
Perfect!
I just like this now and watch it later it's going to be good this is becoming my favourite UA-cam channel not just getting them going but the history behind them
Much appreciated Jason!
Cool truck. My first ride was a 73 D100 with a 318/727 and I wish I had it now. A good video with a Dodge and Duff. Duff is the coolest dog on the Interwebs I love the Duff Cam it's a great addition. My Dad had a 74 Dodge with a slant six that had over 300K on it when he sold it. He said it was the best engine he ever had. It just ran.
Right on!!
Gotta love those California slicks in the snow.
I'm missing a tooth Mortske you know us so well
Haha, bet there's a good story there!

My favorite Mortske clip “ouch, she’s got spark, let’s try that again…”!
I ain't real bright.
Great vid bro 👍
I appreciate the fact that you do your best to keep these old rigs as close to as built as possible, instead of just throwing in a later model drive line😎🔥🇺🇸
Well we do that too!
I'm glad you went with the Busch commercial and not a REVENGE OF THE NERDS drop.
I'll have to check into that one!
"If you can't Dodge it, Ram it" Great job Mort! 👍 I enjoy all things mechanical, so I'm open to all types of videos, "will it runs", engine swaps, even the Frankenstein projects. I do like the will it runs the best though. And of course, Duff dog 🐕.

Love the info. I love random ass info. Keep it up. Keep it coming cause ill keep watching
Pretty soon it'll be "Mortske's Rusted, crusted, dusted car sales"!😂😂😂 two thumbs way up on truck work
Happy Mortske is back !!
"Some day the mountain might get em but the law never will!" YEEEEEEEEHAAAAAAAW
For sure should have at least 1/2 mil subscribers, very entertaining
Much appreciated Kevin!
I might have put some crocus cloth to that journal and put a new insert in and let her rip? As always you did it the right way!
A lot of work, But I enjoyed seeing return of the dead. made me a great Monday and I like watching engine swaps.
Brother Mort, I loved this episode. But it occurred to me as you were out driving around, don't you folks EVER have summer? I lived in SOUTH Dakota - in Sioux Falls - for two years, Southern SOUTH Dakota! We were so far south in SOUTH Dakota I started eatin grits! Yet, as I recall, South Dakota had summer for a few weeks. You're a stout soul, my friend. Keep the good videos coming!
Hahaha
Good looking Sweptline Mortske! Me and my dad are about done restoring our short bed. We are doing a crew cab next.
Awesome!
First video Of yours I watched. I learned a ton. Looking forward to more videos for years to come!
Welcome aboard!
Tough tough motors I’ve been around em for years no power house but take a beating I’d feel obligated to hold onto the one with a spun bearing and bring her back lol
I'm holding onto it for now!
You have become my favorite channel you can fix about anything and everything 😁😁😁😁💟💟💟👍
Much appreciated Mary!
I just this dude, really knowledgeable and you can get hands on experience, never had to do this much to my 68 but i did with my 65 Mercury half ton putting a v8 in it and screwing around with driveshafte and getting the linkage working for the 3 in the tree, miss those days, getting married kinda puts your dreams on hold but if my old Galaxie 500 2dr and Fargo are still sitting at the farm I'm ready 💪 🤔👍
Fun fixing a lot of little things... and some big ones. Great truck.
Thanks 👍
Love the Duff cam and I'm wondering if you might be just a little jealous. I mean you do all the work but he's really the star of your videos.
He sure is!
That trucks fresh and hot, like subway lol, what a great video I love will it runs and all your info, thanks for a fun video
Thanks Tim!
Thanks for another Mortske Monday! Its always frigin great! Good luck 🐾🍺and thanks as always to Chin for the excellent editing.
I was raised in Southern Oklahoma and now live in the Dallas area. I have never seen a real snow plow truck in operation. The town I was raised in used a road grader if anything and The Dallas area uses dump trucks with a grader blade and I have only seen them operate on TV news. Most of the time we may get a couple of inches and it melts by noon the day it falls.
