Kris, it's good to see someone showing some love for these little plastic wonders. I'll bet there were as many great photos taken with these as with much more expensive gear. Keep up the good work!

Hello, I bought a vilia today and this video is so informative. Thanks for it. When I read the property of this camera I saw double exposure mood. Can we do double exposure?

My very first camera, which my father bought to me in 1981, was a very similar, slightly more advanced Orion EE, . The lens was the same and the chassis was very similar, only it had a light meter window above the lens opening with a match needle in the viewfinder.

My first camera was also an orion ee, only it is from 1979 and I bought it in 2018 for about 7 euros

Just found one of those in my parents house, looks very neglected and with dust inside viewfinder, can it be cleaned somehow? Not even sure if it works but would love to give it a go!

Fun little camera this one. I would use alcohol pads to clean it up and qtips to clean viewfinder

Thank you. Imagine, back when I was growing up on the other side of Atlantic, it was a big deal to have camera like that. I was like 10. Now kids younger than that have the newest and the greatest tech in their pockets.

Kris Bochenek in the 80s and 90's growing up in Canada it was rare for a family to have anything much fancier then that camera, at least in rural Ontario. I've read some people say in USSR that cameras were impossible to have and only photos were from the department store, other people say they got a SMENA at age ten and most homes had a FED or Zorki. I guess it depended on where you lived. My son thinks nothing of being able to shoot a digital camera or watch a favorite show on demand, it's crazy.

I had a picture taken at age 6 or 7 by a photographer that was "driving around" taking pictures. It was a big deal. I grew up in rural Poland a child of 80's. Camera such as Fed was given to you on your birthday with a note ascribed on the top plate. Check out this video. ua-cam.com/video/BzqntX4et-c/v-deo.html

I was born in what was back then Soviet Estonia and I remember the camera store quite well. My dad bought me a Orion EE, which was 60 Ruble, the most expensive camera on offer was a Zenit for 100 Ruble. A monthly salary was 150 or so in average. Don't remember ever seeing a medium format camera available in a store, I guess the whole production went straight to photography studios (which were, of course, state owned). Only some veteran newspaper journalists had East-German Pentacons.
So all in all the Soviet cameras were available, what was not available often was regular stuff, like tooth paste, or decent shoes.
