    Perfect way to start a fire. I have an American made Xtrordinaire 33 Elite Insert, made by Travis Industries, which I’ve been using for the past 8 years. I don’t have to use the blowers too often, but when the temperature outside gets down to zero, they come in handy. Two built in 90 CFM blowers. Dry wood and kindling is a must.

      You clearly don’t own a wood stove or fireplace insert. The wood is fine where it is and is at no risk of igniting. You are very sweet for sharing your concerns.

      I have never had a fireplace like this before, amazing heat, not much of the wood burning smell. Really found interesting that you close the damper and how cool to the touch the exterior and even the hearth is. Thx for a boost of confidence getting the chill out of my house!

    Hey great video! Not sure if you were considering other models and if there were federal tax rebates at the time. Currently the 2450 does not qualify but the 2500 does since it is the hybrid version. So debating between the two as well as Kuma cascade, blaze king princess, ironstrike montlake 230. I like the fact that the 2450/2500 extends out of fireplace to add to heat output.

    thank you steve just moved in a house with this same model and i had a successful first burn. i have a few newbie questions about the damper, I had it open the entire burn because i was nervous i might do something wrong. Some hypothetical situations, so if i just wait for the fan to kick on it will seal the fire so to speak by closing the damper and i wont have to worry about smoke or carbon monoxide? don't worry im not going to throw shad at your setup! thanks for the video!

    • @stevegannon6677
      @stevegannon6677  Рік тому +1

      Hey, congrats on your first successful burn! I hope the vid helped with that.
      I recommend you look at the literature on the regency website. It explains how the fan works. When the fan is on, it is simply taking air from your house and passing it across the firebox to heat it up and blowing it back into your home.
      The damper controls the actual fire. If it is full open then the fire is going to burn the hottest and the wood will burn quickly. If it is full closed it can actually make the fire stop depending on how hot it is. If I were you, I would get it very hot, close the damper to about half way and keep it going. The goal is to close the damper all the way or close to it and keep the fire rolling. That make take hours depending on how well it is sealed.
      You should not be concerned about the carbon monoxide coming in your home. That only happens if the chimney is not doing its job. You will know because there will be smoke coming in your house when you first start the fire.
      Let me know if you need clarification. Good luck!

    • @stevegannon6677
      @stevegannon6677  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks for watching. The fan comes on automatically when the stove gets to a certain temperature. It has no impact to the fire. The fan is blowing air around the firebox and out into the room.

    I just looked at this model today. Are you able to get slow burns with it? Do you need to burn hot to keep the glass clear? Lastly, are the fans loud enough that they’ll become annoying while watching TV?
    Thanks

    • @stevegannon6677
      @stevegannon6677  2 роки тому +1

      Great questions.
      I think I know what you are getting at so I will try and explain the slow burn. Once it is up to temp, I am adding about a log an hour, sometimes 2 an hour. At night, I knock down the logs and have a nice bed of embers. I load the firebox up with wood and once it flames (30 seconds later) I close the damper almost all the way. Just enough to keep a rolling flame going. Looks like it is in slow motion. In the morning ~8hrs later, the bed of the firebox is all embers and it is still hot. We load it back up, open the damper and are off and running for the next day. Keep in mind, in the morning it will be hot but not as hot as 8 hrs prior.
      The glass stays clear almost all the time. If it gets brown, wet paper towel does the trick. If a piece of wood is very close, almost touching, it will darken the glass but cleans right up.
      The fan kicks on when it gets to a certain temp. It is a blower to push that hot air into the room. There is a auto on/off or manual on/off. Personally, I keep it on low and auto. I have messed around with the high setting but it IS annoying enough and I didn't feel a benefit in warmth. Low and auto and you never know when it comes on unless you listen for it or walk near it. Nice and quiet.
      Hope this helps. Feel free to ask me more or share your experience.
      Thanks!

      @@stevegannon6677 thanks so much for your response. I’m looking to cut back from burning oil. My house is standard colonial so not an open floor plan but I’m confident I’ll be able to warm a good portion of the first floor that’ll be enough to keep the furnace from kicking on as often.

    • @stevegannon6677
      @stevegannon6677  2 роки тому +1

      @@domeslacker It will definitely help. When my fire is going the only zones that kick on for oil heat is from my basement, below the floor where the insert is located. You could always put fans in doorways to move the air into other rooms.

      Close the damper all the way and shut the door tight. I do not recommend water. It would likely quench the ceramic tiles causing them to fracture. Either way that would be a big mess. Thanks for commenting and good luck!

      @@urbanturbine It's a big upgrade to my previous 1500 sq ft insert and puts out lots more heat. Of course, it uses lots more wood, too. The amount of mess is about the same, though. The bigger burn box lets me not bang into secondary air vents with chunks of firewood which is a plus. No repairs or malfunctions so far so overall I'm pleased.

    • @neilmeyers5519
      @neilmeyers5519 7 місяців тому +1

      @@urbanturbine The last couple years I have burned 90% oak (red, white and bur) plus 10% Bradford Pear and Hickory. I go through 3-4 full cords a year in 2 wood inserts (main level and basement). If they burn run consecutively, all 3 levels will be adequately heated. Otherwise, the heat pumps kick in periodically. Central North Carolina isn't cold like the mountains or other regions in the US but there's a nip in the air. Burn times with the I2450 aren't what I'd hoped to get but cat stoves do much better If fully loaded before bedtime, the stove will go 3-4 hours before all the wood is coals with the damper set to mid-range. It's enough to get the fire going again right away but the big room with a vaulted ceiling is not close to toasty.

    Thank you for making this, I’m shopping around different models of inserts and this is on the list, I guess it was the camera angle bc your insert looked much smaller than it does on regency website and I’m sure they have professional photographers to make it look great. I can’t decide between this one and a more flush one. Last thing, did u install it or hire someone? bc the installation prices are crazy high

    • @stevegannon6677
      @stevegannon6677  2 роки тому +1

      Hey Jon...Thanks for the comments and questions. I think it looks smaller than what is published in the regency literature because I needed a oversized surround plate, the part behind the stove to cover the hole in the fireplace. I needed to remove the existing mantle and surround for adequate clearance to the insert. They specify what the clearances need to be on their website. I built the mantle that you see in the video.
      I chose to hire someone because I had never installed one before or watched someone install one. I also wanted the security of if something goes wrong, I can call someone and they would be responsible. With that said, I feel confident with help I could install one without issues and we have never needed to call anyone since we have not had issues. All in, including the chimney liner, oversized plate, blower motor, insert and install, etc...$4500. Took them a couple hours to install, 2 guys. Hope this helps.
