    Making a Folded Card Case with Painted Edges
    One of our favorite types of leather wallets to make is the folded card wallet. It's a nice and simple design, but can be dressed up or down to fit many leather crafting aesthetics - you can tool it, you can dye it, or you can make a nice simple piece with minimal materials that goes with almost anything.
    For our folded leather card wallet, we used a nice brown leather on the inside and a maroon leather on the outside. We hand stitched our leather card case with a saddle stitch and polyester threads, and we finished the edges with a nice matching maroon edge paint.
    This folded card wallet design allows you to choose your own layout with 1-4 card pockets. Thus, you can make it hold as many or as few cards as you need it to, which is great for personal or custom leather crafting work you may be selling to others!

    my question is.... i am told stamping only works really on veg tan leather.... i see lots of other style of leather being stamped... so what leather can hold a stamp, and what cant? and for the life of me i can't even get the interweb to sort out that query. also, those at the local leather shop don't seem to carry that knowledge? or will pressure overcome other leathers that come in a finished state as they are. thanks in advance for any advice. also, thanks for the great videos and the templates you offer. Great work!!

      it depends on whether you're referring to tooling, or using something like a logo stamp to press a logo into leather. Tooling really only works on veg tan, but you can usually press a logo stamp into most leathers. The exceptions in our experience are super processed leathers like upholstery leather, that stuff is designed to not let anything mark it :)

      @@Corter stamping would be my main reference at this time. i don't tool as much as i use our stamps. and by tooling, i mean tooling in the traditional sense... the western saddle, old school tooling. trial end error are the greatest teachers. thanks for your quick reply.

    What happens if the stitching does not divide the side evenly? like for example one side is 22.4 stitches long?

    • @Corter

      what size stitching chisels are you using?

    • @Richardlizhu
      @Richardlizhu 5 років тому

      @@Corter I was just wondering theoretically, do you measure it out ahead of time and make sure that you'll get a whole number of stitches along a side?

    • @Corter
      @Corter  5 років тому

      you can design patterns that way, but I usually adjust the spacing while I'm punching using a single chisel so that everything looks evenly spaced even though it might not be exact

    How do you get your holes to perfectly end and over your layers?

    • @Corter
      @Corter  5 років тому

      punching top to bottom it's just a lot of experience and practice keeping the irons straight up and down - it comes with time!

    • @TheTryHardDad
      @TheTryHardDad 5 років тому

      Corter Leather I’m speaking about your spacing of your holes. How do you always get it to end perfectly at the corner where you made your mark? And how do you always get the hole to land perfect across a seam •|•

      @@TheTryHardDad i think I understand your question, I'm gonna try and this may or may not help. To make the holes for stitches she uses instrument like a fork which has 4 pointy ends which makes holes at even spaces, at the time of nearing the end though where sides have to be switched (moving from portrait to landscape side or vice versa, where a roundish shape mayne required) she uses similar instrument to dig holes but that only has 2 pointy ends so one whole lands on the vertical side and the other one on the horizontal side.
