This is a short attempt to capture the beauty that is the martial art of brazilian jiu-jitsu in the world of mma and on the tatame. There is so much out there, that if I used everything, it would be many hours of footage. This is my video submission towards the Athletic Body Care video sponsorship contest for 2010.
My name is Terry Ng and I am a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Blue Belt based out of Toronto, Canada. I love competing and training. Having the registration fees for tournaments covered would help me a great deal to be able to go out to different places to train and better my jiu jitsu game more often. I want to compete against the worlds best one day on the biggest stages of jiu jitsu. But to get there and develop, I need to train with and face the worlds best. Please help me get there!

The concept of martial arts go beyond the fight, it is a way of life, training body and spirit. It is about commitment, respect, focus. It makes you stronger, it teaches you the control of body and mind, teches you to take pressure, to see a way out of every situation and never give up. So Martial arts can take you somewhere that no other sport does, it is more than a sport.

I watch this video before I train everytime
It depends on the context of the fight. When it is pure BJJ the tap is a signal to your opponent to let go. In MMA the tap is a signal to the ref that you concede, but the ref has to stop the fight. In MMA a fighter doesn't stop until the ref tells him.

Yellow belt was implamented in some schools to go between white and blue, basically a smaller stepping stone. Some instructors felt that white to blue was too big of a gap for those training outside of Brazil where training is generally done every day for several hours. Its kind of like an extra incentive to keep people from being discouraged if it takes a long time to get their blue belt. I do not think you will see it in any school of BJJ taught by a traditional Brazilian instructor though...

2 months into relson gracie jiujitsu and its so spiritually and physically addictive....theres so much more to mixed martial arts than the exercise aspect. it promotes a positive mind body and soul that melts into every aspect of your life....since starting and gaining the knowledge i have ive changed my perspectives on so much outside the mats and i have a higher self esteem than i ever have...i wish i had this in high school i would have never bothered with football and track...go roll!

going for him was the gaurd and the fact that no one at the time knew how to counter it. Same with the mount. Nowadays there are so many counter guard and mount techniques that the early 1990;s Royce would likely be toast against a mediocre fighter today.
