True... was training Aikido a year or something without any for of former knowledge. Was told, i had the talent in it to become a Master within years but stopped because i had a job as a sailor and not the time to really engage into it anymore. Few Months after that i had a sparing-fight with someone who was learning Wushu. Well... the Aikidotraining worked fine as a baseline. But the upperhand i got was because i mixed in what i learned while fighting for fun with my best friend back then. You could say i did some kind of Aikido-based streetfight.
Would i try to fight expierienced fighters? Nope. Definitly not. Because even if would keep up the training and workout i would not stand a chance because i never really learned to attack but just defend myself...
Tbh? Aikido for itself? Nah... not really this good. You could better go into a good Pro-Wrestling-School and learn there things like jointmanipulation and a few tricks that can get handy in fight, than learning just Aikido. And even then... dont really fight a good MMA-Fighter who knows what he has to do.

I don't get why people compare aikido to foundational arts or those using mostly only body honestly, it's better accompanied by Judo or Sumo knowledge and adapted for swordfights. All this with the goal of not harming the opponent, It's a spiritual, pacific addon to martial arts, not a genuine combat solution. Fighting someone who knows what they're doing with their fists using only aikido sounds a bit weird. I really wish Seagull didn't make It stupid, now a bunch of people have aikido only as foundation and a lot of martial artists disrespect the intention of the art itself without knowing It's history or purpose... I find It sad to see It compared to stuff like slapfu...

@@flyingstonemon3564 yeah. Aikido is a nice addition to other Arts. I remember my master told me, that the purpose is mainly to defend against swords. I did Tomiki Aikido (a super competitive style)for 8 years in the UK and when I started Jiu Jitsu I got smoked during sparring over and over again. It was humiliating. I put Aikido aside (and my ego)and trained hard In Jiu Jitsu and became an all round better fighter. Aikido is a very high art form and follows the path of Bushido closely in mind, body and spiritual principal but if you want an all round self defence/attack martial art I believe Jiu Jitsu is the better way to go. MMA like it or not changed the face of fighting arts and the best of those fighters come from Jiu Jitsu. As for Steven Seagal he is just a really terrible actor and an ego driven narcissist.

If a person combines the strengths of multiple types of martial arts including that of akido, and goes against someone who specializes in only one particular style it only makes sense he would come out on top since he has removed the weakest parts of any particular style and replaced it with the stronger elements of another.

Aikido isn't meant to be used in competition, hence the fact that there's no competition in it. It's about learning to link your mind and your body, whatever the kind of body you have. And it's by using your mind that you make the fight happen as you want it to be.
And I'm not speaking spritually mubmo-jumbo, "believing in your victory to make it true" kind of bullshit, no I'm speaking strategy.
Faking an opening there in order to provoke an attack which you know you can use to do a technique to subdue the partner/adversary.
It's like writing a sentence or, as I like to say, playing music, one word or note leads to another that leads to another, that leads to the end.
But yeah it may not work all the time, moreover against overtrained athletes who know what's going to happen, but that doesn't mean it's bad or useless. A plane can crash, it doesn't mean every planes are a failure.
To me, aikido is a formidable experience but I don't intend to use it in a fight, because I don't intend to fight.

The original masters who devoted themselves to learning and teaching Morihei Ueshiba's Aikido back in the day were already experts in jujutsu and/or judo. On the contrary most people today who take up aikido have never had any exposure to any martial arts, certainly none that involve getting physically hurt so it is no wonder aikido fails them. It was never meant to be a "complete" martial art - no martial art is - but more of a supplement to other martial arts. In fact, its principles are quite sound; it's just in the implementation is where it fails because of the way it is taught and because it has been watered down over time to fit in with Ueshiba’s philosophy of non-violence. Steven Seagal's Tenshin "Aikido" is a style (or rather approach) that is more true to the original aiki jujutsu from which it was derived. This style is much more direct and certainly more aggressive (some would say brutal) than most other styles, which is contrary to aikido philosophy. In any case, Aikido "works" for Steven Seagal because he is 6'5" and 210 lb. When you are that big, you don't really need martial arts, do you.

This video is total crap. No MMA fighter grabs somebody's shirt like in the video. Also, no experienced street fighter puts his or her arm out, so one can just grab it. Many examples in the video show, that the aggressor is not really attacking. A real fighter would never attack with a stick from just top to bottom. In addition, a real MMA does not just stand still watching what the defender does with the arm. A MMA fighter would immediately start punching. This changes the fight dynamic dramatically. There are dozens of genuine videos filming equally trained Aikido and MMA experts. Aikido always loses. Martial Art is an Art and should be respected as such. But it is not the most effective in a real fight if the other person is a MMA, Krav Maga or Street Fighter. This video ist just wrong.

I don't understand. Even in judo it is very difficult to break the balance of a combatant. If he doesn't move (e.g. case with heavy opponents) it is impossible. And you want to do this just by touching, gently pulling or pushing? You can only throw someone who is unprepared and doesn't offer proper resistance. This is not easy because untrained opponents lack body tension; As a rule, they simply collapse.
Have you ever actually Aikido trained with judo fighters?

@@peterrinas3862 If oponent doesn't move? Then oponent is sitting duck 🦆. Wide open for all kinds of throws. I not sparred with judo practioners. Mostly boxers, kick boxers, MT and karate. But i see that judo has some good throwings as well. If oponent doesn't move its even easier. Because i see where are its legs. The heavier is the harder will fall down. Unlike wrestling it's not required to lift oponent to throw it. Basically force oponent to throw itself. If doesn't move i gonna force it to move. Instant throw. If waits and do nothing will be thrown. If do something will be thrown. Only options to defend is actively resisting and make counter throw. Anything other than that will be throwing. Throwing towards least resistance. A car 🚗 weights ten times more than a person and weight is distributed over lot larger surface yet we easily can move it. Push it. Or pull it. Pull the oponent and sweep the legs. Or push the oponent. Direction of the push matters. If you push at the correct angle even gentle touch will throw oponent out of balance. Then throw. When oponent is on the ground has to stand up. While standing up wil be thrown again. If choose to stay on the ground... well will be thrown, rolled 🗞️ again and again till tap.

If a technique cannot be practiced, it will be ineffective in a real fight. All the necessary physical prerequisites, which should be developed through practice, are missing. In particular, the reflexes that enable automatic movement in a fight should be mentioned here. Techniques that require you to think about things don't work under stress.

Trying to promote it as such simply highlights ones ignorance in the martial arts.
