  • This old barn was used as a gymnasium by an old school that no longer exists. Everyone says this old building can't be saved, but I'm going to do just that. Check it out!

    For some reason one of the drone shots appears to have turned into a still image in the intro lol. Not sure what happened, but hopefully you "still" enjoy the video! Thanks for all the support and have a great rest of the week!

      Thx for this note….i just finished the video and was coming here to ask about the drone shots. Other than the minor confusion (asked and answered), this was crystal clear on what you are planning and the steps you see taking initially. I’m no expert on what the steps involve but I do read people well and have a good sense (I call it my BS meter) for when someone is basically sound or freakin’ nuts. All I can say is that I’m on team Kleeman and believe in you. Let’s go!

      You might want to consider doing a Y type bracing. This would keep the floor space clear of additional vertical post. Think of a traditional roof truss upside down attached to the existing center post. Use 3/4 plywood to make gussets to connect.

    • @gwbuilder5779
      @gwbuilder5779 7 місяців тому

      Yup, the drone footage is definitely stationary.😂🤙

      @@richm487 I think the floor concern is factored into the long term plan. If your “Y” scenario is also factoring this in, kindly outline some major milestone steps that go along with it. Additionally, I’m sure he will be interested in looking at material viability for reuse (in comparison) because he is a big fan of stretching the dollar. Now that he has a dry space with easily separate areas, he will inventory but prefers parts that get better turnover.

    • @CaptainKleeman
      @CaptainKleeman  7 місяців тому +2

      @@richm487 it would also overload the central floor beam 👍

    I work for a big civil engineering company in the UK, we manage major infrastructure projects. I can confirm that the quality and completeness of the technical drawings on this channel is greater than those we have access too. I'm excited for you and the opportunity's this building represents. Keep doing what you're doing fella.

      Totally agree, just retired after working as an FM for 30yrs, I always dreaded taking over an older building as the plans were never updated when new wiring, pipework or structural changes were made. You'd spend at least a year finding out why and where changes were made, it's amazing how much stuff was done without any approvals whatsoever. 🤣😂

      Captian to pull the concrete walls will take good cabling and good winches and proper wood or steel beams to hold every thing straight as you also slowly pull the tops in while also lifting the roof. My brother hired a man and his crew to do the same process on the 90 foot long x 44 foot tall x 45 feet to the peak of a barn built in the 1920's. It can be done with working slowly and listening to the building. Good luck and be safe. I enjoy your willingness to learn.

    If you don't need the full ceiling height, I'd recommend adding horizontal supports just below where it is failing now. I'd use cable and turnbuckles so that you could make adjustments over time.

    Cap’n congrats on your acquisition. It’s not the average UA-camr who can grow from a small town, middle American flyover farmstead, into an internationally recognized World Wide phenom… in just a few short years!!
    I mean, looking back… who’d a thunk that a Country boy could leverage a tugboat shaped yacht in the forest into an Internationally recognized brand worthy of a headquarters the size of gymnasium???
    I must confess, I did not see that coming!!!
    Regardless, Cap’n I applaud your vision and wish you the best as you see it through to your dreams. Keep dreaming bud…. I’ll keep watching!!!

    Thanks for sharing your thoughts, ideas and videos. Looking forward to seeing every step of this headquarters renovation. A large space to work indoors is an amazing thing to have access to. I took Masonry class while in high school and my teacher had a very unique structure for his projects at home. Prior to WW1 the town started to put in public sewers and when the war happened they paused the project. After the war when the project was restarted the concrete holding tank was no longer sized big enough and was abandoned in place. He grew up playing around it and knew it was there. When he was older and the property went up for sale it sold for a great price because it had this huge block of concrete on it. He snapped it up, hired an explosive expert and blew a hole in one end to put in a roll up door. He built all kinds of projects inside it that he would tell us about. The biggest I remember was he prebuilt a house inside it made to come apart for his camp. It was a huge indestructible space coming out of the side of a hill. He used to say it was so big it had its own weather system inside and he had to be careful when he threw the door open to not get blown over. Wishing you and your family the best.

As we lifted as you will with bottle Jack's you also draw in the come alongs. When you achieve your lift the trusses are set. As a bonus you can leave the come alongs in place for extra support.

    Interesting build Mike. Almost thought you could turn the top floor into a workshop to work on your projects versus expanding the shed, funding multiple projects. Of course, you would have to strengthen the floor to allow vehicles on the top side. Also, I have seen a public building like this before and was wondering, instead of bracing the arches from top to bottom, adding addition posts in your open area, what about bracing the arches from side-to-side (Kind of like you see in framed roofs that are not prefabbed)? That way, you do not loose the space with permanent posts. Of course the bracing would prevent the arches from sagging side-to-side as well!

Regretfully I can only watch as I am in Townsville North Queensland. When you spoke of reinforcing the roof I was picturing trusses that may lower that internal roof height, after the slump had been propped. I like the use of triangles to strengthen and spread weight where you need it, and they also lock it in. I am excited for you mate, stay safe and have fun with it.

If you ever had plans to fully redo the building trusses you would be able to keep them as some of your new trusses and you would loose a little height. Can’t wait to watch 👍
