No way I'd build a bunker in this fashion. I think he severely under estimated how thick the walls should be, and ESPECIALLY the ceiling. I don't think he realizes how much weight is on the ceiling of that bunker. I give it a few months before it starts to crack, if that. There's also no provision for drainage, so it could flood easily. I wonder how strong those walls are since it wasn't all poured at the same time, I wouldn't trust the walls either. I also would've insulated the whole thing. A better way to do this would be insulated concrete forms, which will give you an R-40 rating at minimum, and they're engineered to be used as a basement wall, so no worries there. You should have drain tile and a sump as well. And as many have said. If you don't use proper bracing or excavation techniques, that could up being your grave before you ever get it done.
Very nice! Good and interesting video production as well. Definitely had the advantage of perfect soil conditions. Virtually no rocks and mainly sand, with just the right amount of loam, to keep the sides from collapsing during construction. When not being used as a shelter, it should make a very functional root cellar for food storage as well. 👍
Wow. I have SO MUCH RESPECT for how he dug that giant hole using just a shovel and his bare hands, all by himself!!!! Even 2 ppl, that would be intense. It’s so perfectly proportioned and laid out. Just wishing I didn’t live in Las Vegas so something like this could be possible for me to do. 😣
You can do this much more safely by forming it up as you excavate down every few feet like a large underpinning pit. The material in this video looks like it’s clay, but even that can collapse pretty easily at that depth.

The best shelter that I've seen was the one under a house in Las Vegas. Apparently the original owners built the underground shelter first, and then had their house built on top of the shelter. It looks a house underground, and that is what I call a shelter. These so-called shelters now days, nope. With the one on Las Vegas the people who have the actual house can get into the shelter from inside the house by using either the stairs, or the elevator, and there is an exit which is located away from the house, so if the route to get back inside of the house for some reason or other is not able to be used, then the people can get out by the other exit instead. Having to go outside of your home in a disaster is very dangerous.
If I see one more video of a guy "building an underground whatever by himself" where he digs twelve feet straight down with a shovel and doesn't hit a single rock, I'm going to lose it!

An incredible amount of work for this well engineered project. I hope he poured a base for a Column Roof support. Vent should have an additional 90° on it with screen. Oh for a Concrete Pump tuck and Mixer service.
Wonderful job. I would have done just a couple things different. Build a 90 degree turn into the entrance for radiation protection and put a slight peak in the concrete roof so that water runs off of it, even just a couple inch slope to the center peak would help the concrete last. But it is a beautiful project and I'd like to see more from that contributor.

That's why you have safely barriers to prevent crushing and killing workers. Never work alone. This could have become a tomb. Respect safety practices. We have them for a reason. This is not to take away from the good job done here.

So I’m wondering if anyone wants to spend an extended amount of time in such a restrictive space. Even a short time would be psychologically and physically challenging.
Yes because some of us can handle living in a secluded and small space, while others can't. What you say is restrictive is not the same to me and I would say many others; especially Smeagol.
I'm no engineer, but I seriously question the ceilings ability to support the weight. I tend to overbuild things, but I would have used steel beams in the ceiling.

If the bunker had a thin layer of tar/asphalt in its walls, floor, and ceiling, it would be waterproof. Many builders do this to prevent water from seeping in, even if the bunker is left abandoned for decades.
If I wanted to build a bunker like this in my backyard (cause I actually have enough space 😅), how much time would it take to make one as well as money wise?
I’m no expert, but with todays nuclear bomb technology, wouldn’t your bunker need to be a bare minimum of 20’ft deep, and have 2-4ft thick concrete walls?
So far I've made 3 underground bunkers. The first one didn't have a drain trench and therefore it has flooded and become a pond. The 2nd Bunker was the best. It was 87 feet long with two rooms about 10x10 in size for each room. It had a wood burning stove and a periscope, ventilation and a drain trench also used as a corridor to access the rooms. But soon after completion, the owner of the forest tore down the trees and made housing. The 3rd bunker was about 5 feet deep and had a drain trench but the friends that helped threw my tools down a steep hill and I wasn't able to get the tools. So after three times trying to make a bunker failed! Check out my little cartoon on how to make a bunker... ua-cam.com/video/aYxKVdqnTzo/v-deo.html
I'm making one where as the warm air from the body or cooking stove goes out through a vent on the ceiling above the stove, it sucks fresh air from a controlled opening near the ground in the opposite side of the room. Also making compartments on the walls in the dirt, where the temperature is stable cooler in the summer, to serve as a refrigerator, and also compartments for food and water storage, all covered by concrete. There will be a small toilet and shower corner connected to the house plumbing and sewage because the house is in higher terrain.

The experience of Ukraine, which was subjected to aggression by Nazi Russia: 1. the entrance to the bomb shelter should have a regular staircase so that you can quickly go down. Children and elderly people cannot go down the stairs shown in this movie quickly. 2. The bomb shelter must have a second exit. 3. Sometimes you have to stay in a shelter for a long time - there must be a separate room for a bathroom. In terms of strength, the design is good.
Looks nice. It would probably be full of water around here. I'd have a second air pipe for cross ventilation. That pipe fan won't pull any air unless you leave the door open also.

An incredible amount of work for this well engineered project. I hope he poured a base for a Column Roof support. Vent should have an additional 90° on it with screen. Oh for a Concrete Pump tuck and Mixer service.

He could have been killed so easy during this build. No trench box is beyond risky
Yea, maybe if it collapses in on all 4 sides at the same time.
How much money did you spent on this
Wonderful job.
It is storage for potatoes and pickles. Owner did not intended it as any sort of shelter. It is just click bait title as always.

This is a very dangerous situation. If the walls had collapsed, working alone what do you think would have happened to this man? If I wanted to build a bunker like this in my backyard (cause I actually have enough space 😅), how much time would it take to make one as well as money wise?
Depends on. If you buy concrete it is more expensive, but it is quicker as well. You dig the hole with a small shovel or with a phat excavator .......

Like...duh!!

In Finland goverment builds our bunkers
Hey! I am from there!!!
A lot of anything can be hidden in there and no one will ever know.
The smell of a decomposed corpse is very strong, it will be noticeable.
