Happy new year Brent, all the best for 2024
Hey. The space on the new bedside between the front of the fender and the back of the cab is the perfect place for a HalfAss Custom logo. ❤
No, no, dont cut up the tin and use it, you could keep it in storage and use it in about 30 years time to make a nissan or toyota hotrod, as they use the same metal today. lol. Happy New Year Brent. :)
52 minutes ago. Been a couple of weeks since I've been on-line. I plug into yt, no notifications, and there's Brent. Ha. Never fails and I'm in.
Happy New Year Brent
happy new 2024 to you and yours
The new forklift is a game changer! 💪👍🏼
This Truck is gonna be pretty dern cool when she's all said and done I can imagine already how good she's gonna look.
You could use that tin in your other garage, nail it to the studs and it would be nice and bright in there for storing your cars in there, plus for the ceiling also .keep up the great work and God Bless you and your family. 😊👍🙏🏼
Yes to running boards .Love em can't wait for that ! More please young man .
My favorite pattern material is soda/beer boxes, free and forms smoothly.
Wow No Fear No Holding Back just git-er-done. You just exude confidence when moving into these projects wether it is on the vehicles or putting your shop together, motors on the lathe and on the bandsaw got to say my favourite though is the cardboard-cad!!! Great job in moving forward!!! Keep it up!!!
Hello Brent Welcome to 2024. The new shop is going to be well used by 2025 . You continue to return your tools to serviceable status or replace them. I thought you would have your band saw blades in the supply box and just cut and spot weld to length. In my working days that is what we did for blades. The cost of the blades greatly reduced over buying blades pre made. A good side benifet was sharper blades & better cuts because you replaced the blade more frequently because it was easy to do. It also let you cut an inside hole by welding blade after being strung through the starter hole. The spot welder/tempering unit and dressing grinder were attached to the saw. A very handy feature.
Oh Brent , lookin' so goood...👍
one piece at a time 😎
hey Pablo...love the ride 🐶
HAPPY & HEALTHY 2024
It's good to see you building rods in your new shop.
Brent I have said it before but your skills are friggin awesome I look forward to seeing your videos every time you post them your shop layout is amazing
Happy New Year, Brent. You have come a long way in such a short time and it has been a joy to watch the progress of the phoenix rising from the ashes. You do more than customise cars you fix us up too. You are an inspiration, my friend, with your boundless energy, enthusiasm and sheer tenacity in the face of adversity, of which most of us would have given up from the get go but not you and you lead by example. If I am having an off day or feeling lazy, I think about you and how you would tackle any given situation and I find myself pushing on through . . . It's a gift. Don't ever lose it! Much love to you, the fur babies and your family. All the best sunshine. ❤🎉😊
Mon I'm telling you about 5-6 year's ago I haven't welded in 10 year's because I had a stroke and kinda took out the motor of my right hand. I was watching Brent work and a few others video's that got me motivated to drag out my little 110v red box welder. My brother gave me some scrap metal and my first project was making a welding table on wheels. My other brother donated a piece of sheet metal for the top. That save me $200.00 bucks that's what they were charging at my local metal yard.
I have yet bought any new metal. All my project's is using scrap free metal.
It's more work to cut it down to get all the pieces I don't need and grinding all the rust off of it. When it has paint on it people never know it's scrap metal.
Right now I'm using bed angle iron to make a stand for my belt and disc sander for metal or what ever, but I bought metal sand paper. It's more pricy than wood sandpaper. Any how I have to say Brent and Karl are my biggest motivators and a few other's that got me back into welding.
I use to weld for a living I welded for 14 year's took some time off when my Pop's had cancer, after he past 3 month's later it went all bad for me, but I made a negative into a positive took me a while to get my get back. I have to push myself to get motivated to get thing's done everyday.
@@snoopu2601 Good for you, keep after it and you'll be glad you did when you look back some day!
@@JimmyMakingitwork thanks for the encouragement 👍🏽 it helps. I have to post more of my stuff on UA-cam and picture's of stuff I did in the past I have some picture's of project's ice built before UA-cam.
Thanks again JimmyMakingitwork 👍🏽
@@snoopu2601you must be a strong willed man. Keep the progress going. Hope you’re getting some motor skills back in your hand. 🙏👍
I think the top hood and rear open cabin better you just canvassed it rather that metal base bcoz a bit look outdoor.
I use house vapor barrier to make my pattern templates. You can draw on it with sharpie. Cutes with scissors, see through it and it comes in wide and long rolls. The thick stuff is the best
Thanks for the tip!
I, for one, really enjoy your channel. I became aware of it maybe aware of it a year ago. What I have really liked are your tool and machine repair videos. My personal opinion is that there are enough will it run videos out there.
Happy New Year to you and the family.
Here in the UK we can buy bandsaw blade by the reel and you can get a blade welder to make your own blades. If that is running a bit fast for metal buy the finest (highest tooth count) blades you can get and don't be tempted to buy cheap. Also another tip (from experience) and if you want to cut long straight lines accurately is to keep a blade that you don't use to cut curves. If you push the blades to cut curves they can lose a bit of tooth set on one side and then when trying to cut straight like against a fence they can wonder off the lines. A blade that has only cut straight lines won't have the tooth set issue.
Looking good! Symmetry is what I always shoot for!
Hey for that spot on the side of the bed that bothers you , try swapping sides on the fenders for a quick look see maybe.
What a great start to 2024. Thanks a million team Halfass!
Happy New Year, I love where the truck is headed. Next time, you are working with thin sheet metal. Score the cut line with a utility knife a couple of times. Then, fold it over onto itself. It will break perfectly.
When matching truck stripes to bodylines I start by taking good straight on side shots of the truck then import the pics in the computer and trace the curves in vector then scale the whole thing to real size...might have been able to cut/edit that panel on the plasma if it fit.....would also be super helpful to trace out paper/cardboard patterns if you can make a pen/marker attachment for the plasma table...
When you cut the top rail and bend it put the bend on the inside of the bed and spot weld. Then the outer side is smooth. The lip on the inside of the bed is covered by the tonneau cover
Man that bandsaw is something else. Can always cut some deer on the side for some extra cash with that puppy. Truck is looking pretty snazzy! 😉✌
Hey Brent! Really shaping up. Different but works. Stay safe my friend😀😀
That truck is going to be awesome! Love all your stuff, thanks for the hours of entertainment. Glad to see you bouncing back from your hard times, you’re an inspiration to me.😊
Minty !
Thank You for sharing your video, and letting us hang out .
Later ...
The box sides are looking really good. LTAD......Light Tin Assisted Design!! Do what you gotta do with what you have to do it with. Catching up on videos again. Happy New Years to you and Esther and the family. Be safe and stay well.
Happy New Year Folks, and Happy New Shop Brent.
Maybe you can do the sidepipes and a small functional step just ahead of the fender, to stand on when installing or removing the top.
Coming together nicely
Awesome progress, but may I suggest another curved pipe that is the top of the flat sheet you just made, cut like the front downpipe to let the sheet in. Then cut it and the first big curved pipe to let the flange sheet at the top go into both. Also cut the front drop pipe and put a 90 going back to the fender, also cut. Lots of work, but very strong and smooth edges.
Happy New Year to you and Esther!!!
I don't "see" your vision yet with the flat panel sides, but you always come through in the end.
So I'll keep watching.
Pocket the top part too like side. Then fit fake vents to the slab part of the side to fill the spade.
Happy new year Brent Ester and Pablo have a blessed 2024 🙏
That. Look Roadster. Like. Real. Nice. Thanks
Love it and if you follow the same process with the top to end rail will really give this a great form. I am hoping the bottom is next for the bed..... then this can come off as a unit to work right on the floor and make it easier for more custom ideas forming as you go
Hey Brent, look into a band saw blade welder. They mount onto the saw. It has a shear for cutting the blade, a spot type welder that fuses the blade together and a grinding wheel to dress the weld. Just buy a roll of blade and make your own. I worked at a couple of shop that had them.
I think those were built into them saws
They where a bolt on option. I see some for sale, but the are more money then I thought. $600 and up, way up. Love what you do. Fellow Canadian that never miss a show.
On some of my projects, I take a picture and then insert that picture into Fusion 360 as a canvas. It's super easy to then scale the picture to the correct size.. then you can draw over the picture and CNC plasma cut your parts. You could easily make two identical sides. You can clearly make drawings to CNC cut. It would be so simple for you.
I always love watching the work get done, but if I’m honest, I wasn’t sure about this one UNTIL this video. And now I kinda LOVE it. 😊😘👍
So glad to see you in the new shop…it really looks great.
Brent, happy new year to you, Esther, and all of yours! Can’t wait for all your 2024 magic!
As for a consistent line use the shadow to draw your line like art class.
Just move your light til it lines up how ya like it. 👍🏼
Hope your swayed in your comments as to what your end of what you envisioned, your art and what you do is going to come out exactly what you what and that is so freaking Neat, So Kool, Thanks!...
Happy New Year, Brent. How is Austin doing? I know school takes his time up. How's his car coming along. Brent, thank you for a good year. My hope is 2024 is superb for you and the family..
Yeh.
Been slow with holidays and stuff hope to have an update soon.
I am excited to watch this video, thanks once again.
Happy New Year to you and the family Brent...Love the build so far!! Might be a silly idea but you could fill a bit of the "boring" front end of the box with your 4" louvers
haha I just might :)
Fabricator Extraordinaire
Shop's starting to take shape as you get your equipment set up and back to some fab work 👊
Happened New Years. Another good one 👍👍
Brent.. the sides look amazing. I like the idea of inserting the side into the front upright. gonna look good.
First video I watched in 2024 glad to have them
I would still use some old car top to make a convex cover for the box with hydraulic struts to hold it open...and a latch and key at the back. Oh yeah...piano hinged.
I like the way it looks with the bedside cut into the tube at the front of the bed. I think that same technique might also work for the running board and it would keep with the "rounded" theme.
Keep it up man! Love your videos. Been watching them since you started UA-cam.
Happy New Year Canada 🇨🇦 😊
Hello Halfass Kustoms I like to see a video of bloopers I know they are very funny 😂😃😂😃
Great job given the tools you have available ... awesome !!! BUT given your IT background, thinking your goal should be acquiring a Leica laser tracker that would allow you to "digitally" render what you want and the ability to feed the data into your plasma table (for small jobs). Amazing kit from my experience in Aerospace ... the C-130J has some rather large and wobbly sheet metal on the fuselage ... we'd never be able to get precision on the hard tooling without a Tracker to set the hard points. Couple of $thousand but well worth it IMHO.
Love the band saw Brent! The blade pulley is hypnotic to watch!😆 Oh, yeah the bed side looks good!
Coming along very well. Great video
It's coming together nicely 😂 hope yous had a great Christmas, thanks for sharing, Wishing you and your loved ones, Healthy and Prosperous New Year
I once built a whole boat frame with just bedrail angle iron. It strong enough to handle a four cylinder Willis engine
Really like that shape 😊
Happy New Year Brent & Esther and all the HAK crew. I think I am enamored of this thing because I was helping build one back in the '90's. grafted a subframe on, c-notched and 4 linked rear. As always, anxious for the next one....later
should get some Evpoa Rust for you Band saw table it will make that look like brand new you will be amazed with the results also not much heavy work just retain it on table top with wood strip and silicone glue wood to table top just a suggestion great content
I want to wish you and your family all the best for a Happy New year I'm hoping in the New year you'll do a restoration rather than a shop on an older car and bring it back from what it is to its past original glory
Pocketing the steel was a terrific idea and looks great.
Happy New Year 🎉
I've been waiting for this. Not really A fan of the bed so far, but I''m trusting the process and you've brought me around before. In the end, you're the only one who has to be satisfied and it's always fun watching you figure out what that will take.
Happy New Year. Brent and Ester. I like how the truck is shaping up..
The bed is going to be mint awesome happy new year Brent and Ester and pups😊
Brent, i now understand why you are so great at building your dreams. And i am so tearable at it. You can read your own notes and drawings. Mine are only hen scratches.👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🧟♀️
Haha I just don't make a lot of notes haga
Happy New year in your new shop! I am finally getting a good idea of where you are heading on this build! Cool!
Happy new year 2024 Mr Brent and family 🙋🏻♂️
Just an idea, make the runningboards out of square or elongated tubes so its a runningboard and sidepipe in one. Four tubes welded together one for each cilinder.
Lookin good, great idea for cuttin pipe in middle whoever thru it Brett way, looks clean with back curve of fender..HUGH bandsaw id say..wow, bargin at aution, another fire piece saved, untill next move, later
Brent HappyNew Year to you and Esther. Hope you two have a great and prosperous year . Thank you for putting out the first video of the year. Awesome job
Nice work Brent ..
great job there HK, ever though of using your empty beer boxes to template your next piece? saves money. By the way... Happy New Year to you and your Family, especially Pablo 🥰❤
As for the front of the bed I think louvers would be cool, angled maybe? And you could do something similar in the tailgate area ???
Incorporate your side pipe exhaust system as the outer part of the running board. Just a thought.
I'd cut the original run ing boards and bolt to fender line stock and.mold the other end on to the cab corner then molt the exhaust in the under side of the little step
Love seeing your build and the shop coming together. Heat must be working good in the building since you're not working out there all bundled up now. I just ordered my new shop. Retired and moved from Colorado to Arizona a couple of years ago and spent the last 6 months rolling around on a piece of plywood in the gravel driveway working on the restoration of my 53 Ford Victoria my dad gave me 50 years ago. Going to be nice to have a shop to finish it up in. Really like the overhead lights you put in and I'm thinking that there might be a Wildfire 4 post lift in my future. Really impressed with being able to move it around. Happy New Year and keep the content coming.
Im so flad your able to get the tools necessary to be to machine and fabricate your material for your projects with less struggle
Nice to have it all under the same roof. Always looking forward to tou next video. Great content. Thanks Brent.
Happy New Year stop looking good keep up the good work God bless
Happy new year Brent and family. Well done on the truck, it’s going to look good!!
Pocketing the side rails not the hole rail but maybe every 6in or 12in but would blend with the front of the bed ? Maybe 😊😅
watching you work with that thin tin made me think. harley davidsons get shipped fully asembled in big cardboard boxes. my daughter used to unbox them when she worked at harley. when we needed large pieces of cardboard we'd just get it from there. they're almost the size of a sheet of plywood. they just get recycled anyway. don't know if there's a dealer in your area, but it might be worth checking out. they make good templates.
Hey Brent, lovin' your channel - your content is awesome. you are always positive & explain things in everyday language. So educational. Great to see you in the new shop too. I do have to say that i don't enjoy the music during time-lapses so much. I suspect i'm not alone! Anyway's, keep up the great work. Happy New Year to you Esther.
Hi there sir Brent the box is going to look great ,it's starting to take shape and can see where your taking it All the best to you and your family in the year to come so HAPPY NEW YEAR and thank you for sharing
The flat spot may be idea for a HAK air tank. What ever you do with it will be awsome. Excited to see what you come up with.
You're going gangbusters. Happy New Year !!!
So nice to see you work in a wide new shop!
Cool stuff. Enjoyed watching ✌️ 😎
Excellent video Brent :) , Pablo The Supervisor Dog 🐕 , yes like box coming from scratch to fabrication on steel sheets too and looking super 👌 👍! Happy New Year 2024 January 1 to you all!
Yeah it turned out real nice. Looking forward to see what it's going to look like when you get it all done.👍👍🙂♥️
Brent just wondering about how you’re going to give it strength. Thanks for sharing!
💯👍👊
On the bandsaw blades I buy it on a bulk roll and tig weld it to what ever length I need then anneal it with a torch. It's way cheaper and you can fix a broken blade or splice in a new section where you have lost some teeth.
brent, you should be able to setup that VFD for full torque at any frequency, its in the settings, and you can also set the minimum frequency so you dont have to worry about running it so slow that it trips the safeties.
Interesting haven't played with it enough I don't mind that it doesn't have full torque cuz I don't have to worry about binding the blade I'd rather it stall than chip teeth
I know you already thought about bead rolling the bed side sheet metal Brent. To give the side's some design and stability? Or maybe not maybe that's doing to much. Oh and happy New Year to you and the family, everyone else 🎆
